A Nintendo Direct featuring Wind Waker and Twilight Princess announcements for Switch is reportedly coming in September.

A Nintendo Direct presentation focused on Zelda announcements will reportedly be held in September.

That’s according to GamesBeat managing editor Mike Minotti and Giant Bomb reporter Jeff Grubb, who were speaking on a podcast this week.

“To be clear guys, the one thing we are very, very sure is being announced at this Direct are the Wind Waker and Twilight Princess ports for Switch,” Minotti said. “Yeah, I think there’s going to be a lot of Zelda stuff at this thing,” Grubb said. “I think this is like a Zelda blowout for Nintendo.

“100% there’s a Nintendo Direct in September, it’s that simple. There is still some uncertainty about whether this will be a general [Direct], maybe a Mini, there was some talk of it being a Partner Direct”.

Grubb added: “If they’re going to have Zelda stuff there, this is not a Partner Direct, and those are the things that we’ve been hearing. The specifics that were name-dropped were Twilight Princess and Wind Waker HD ports to the Switch.

“Which, again, even had we not heard that, I would be speculating that that would be happening right now while we wait for the run-up to Breath of the Wild 2. And yet we have heard that, and we’ve heard other things, again Metroid Prime remaster, that sounds like it’s got to be announced at something like this.

“And then third parties will be showing up,” he continued. “I’ve heard some of that as well, it’s not super exciting the things I’ve heard. To me it sounds like at least a Mini Direct, but if it’s going to have the name of the next Zelda, which seems like a distinct possibility, that sounds like a big general Direct.”

Grubb said he’d heard from “a pretty good source” that the event will take place during the week beginning September 12.

Wasn't skyward sword HD released last year? The company who made that remaster also did twilight princess HD for wii u. It will take them more time than 1 year to port those 2 games over to the switch.

Skyward Sword was a new remaster. I figure they would just take the Wii U HD versions of Wind Waker and TP and port them over. Should be simple enough.

Still have it for GC. I remember watching Twilight Princess for WiiU and the game actually looks pretty. Not my favorite Zelda game, but didn't hate it either.

But...its Nintendo so it would mean another full price.

Love Wind Waker so I hope this is true. Been waiting for a WW/TP double pack since I bought a Switch all those years ago. An MP remaster would be icing on the cake. Don't disappoint me, Nintendo.

Twilight Princess was already ported to the Tegra chipset by Nvidia Lightspeed. They also did the Super Mario Galaxy, Portal, and Half Life 2 ports for the Shield devices.

The work on Twilight is already done. Like with the Portal games on Switch you'll see Nvidia credited in the opening loading screens.

Wind Waker will likely use the same backend Wii emulator. Ports should be solid enough.

Those would be great additions to the library, but I can't help but feel they should've spread the releases out a bit more. Between Skyward Sword HD and BotW2 this is a lot of Zelda in a short amount of time. If they really wanted to do a Zelda blowout it should've been for the anniversary they (hardly) celebrated some time ago.

Nice!! Switch was lacking good 3d Zelda!

Joke, SS and BOTW are good on my book but I prefer TP and WW much more.

Wii U version of Twilight Princess already runs like a dream. They just need to bump up the resolution.

I need to know what fans see in The Wind Waker. The artstyle is nice enough but quite dated by now, while the music is great and the story direction is probably Zelda’s best ever. But the actual game is weak, always has been. Even with the much-needed changes made in the WiiU remaster it’s still the worst 3D Zelda experience, and it’s not a contest. A Switch version would necessarily be worse than on WiiU, because TWW is a game where having an independent inventory screen improved the gameplay tenfold. You’d have to pay me to replay the GC version when the WiiU version exists.

Twilight Princess has the opposite problems. It’s quite ugly and depressingly formulaic, but it’s a solid game through and through with some unforgettable highlights. As low as it may get, it never gets as low as the Triforce pieces quest or some clearly unfinished “dungeons“ in TWW. As boring as it may get, it never gets as boring as navigating an empty sea towards a piecemeal island and the umpteenth fish you have to feed to get a map of the area. As repetitive as it may get, it never gets as repetitive as playing the command melody again and again to control an ally in a dungeon.

Well I don't know why I came into this thread
I've got the feeling that videogames ain't right
I'm so scared in case they are 60$ each
And I'm wondering when I'll get a new videogame

Remasters to the left of me
Remakes to the right
Here I am stuck in the middle playing old games
