I think they called it a breakout success at their investor meeting so I'm guessing it did far better than they imagined and would have no reason to port because of lacklustre sales. If you look at some of the Sega sales numbers that just leaked it sold more than most of the games they have.

Yup.

Similar to MLB The Show or Lego Horizon going to Xbox and Switch, Astrobot is the same boat. It's not projected to be a big seller. So if it goes to other platforms it's not going to piss off many gamers, and Sony can reap in extra sales from other platforms. MLB games have been on Xbox/Switch for years. Nobody cares. But if Sony announced GoW or Spiderman went Xbox/Switch, it'd be hell on Earth. Astrobot at only about 3M copies is lousy considering it's GOTY. It just goes to show a lot of gamers dont care much for platformers unless it's Mario or those It Takes Two kind of games from that EA studio.

If this was older gens, a game like Astrobot would be a top seller when platformers were a big thing.

Sony apparently likes Nintendo doing well, because they create a new audience of people for them to target eventually, based on what Shuhei Yoshida said

"Nintendo is bringing a younger audience into gaming, and some of them when they grow up, might graduate into more mature systems like PlayStation or Xbox. Of course, they have huge respect for what Nintendo does in terms of how Nintendo should be doing in the industry. Everybody's Golf is also a Sony franchise, created and (previously) published by them. They just commissioned a different publisher to do the Switch 2 port.

I could see PS4 games that came out on PC also releasing on Switch 2. Open up new audiences to GOW, DS, etc.
