A question for ComicGAF (marvel x dc)

A question for ComicGAF, I dont follow comics as much as id like and a i certainly dont follow the in's and out's behind comic publication (like i do with the game industry) but what's preventing these 2 giants coming together again?

The last stuff i can find is either mid 90s (DC vs Marvel) or mid 90s (Amalgam) they both seem like they are pretty good and it strikes me odd that the companies never tried to repeat the success, Superheros seems to be returning to grace lately with the success of The Avengers and Batman movies and very competent video games being made.

Marvel seem to really like these large series events (Rulk, civil war AvX) and DC have had some huge things in the past (Kingdom Come)

Marvel Vs DC seems like too good of a money making opportunity to turn down for either company.

A video game in the same vein as MvC would be even better but thats a gaming side thread.

Too much business in the way.

pretty much this. being owned by two media giants would mean that this would have to be handled in the same fashion that who framed roger rabbit was, with equal characters getting equal facetime. i would rather an amalgam recreation.

Business and ego. Plus no one will ever be satisfied, because their fave character will lose to someone they consider a loser (just look at the Batman vs Iron Man thread).

I heard Marvel pissed DC off with some petty comic book competition (like if the comic book stores ripped up some DC books and sent them to Marvel they get some limited edition Marvel ones) and DC said future collaborations were off, or something.

Id be down for this, I assume something like DC "but we dont want superman to lose a fight" would be a pretty hurdle but at the same time they dont have to be fighting each other, Interaction between the 2 universe could be strictly on a partnership role. Create some new all powerful army they have to war against, some mind control of large name characters to turn them evil for a short while, Skrulls impersonating DC characters Ect

That's how the cross-over stuff usually works, the two heroes fight briefly over a misunderstanding, and then team up to take on the major threat. I had a Batman/Hulk team-up from the 80s that had the Joker trick the Hulk into fighting Batman, who then convinced Hulk of the real threat.

That is the most recent thing, yes. Marvel encouraging distributors to destroy DC comics (rendering them unsellable) in exchange for some limited edition marvel variants.

DC was..less than pleased with that- but marvel didn't really care. their relationship hasn't been that great anyway, so that was icing on the cake.

There's been a ton of development on the business side of things for both companies. From licenses owned by different companies depending on the media, to authorities changing, and a big etc. It's just messy.
