A question for Series X with GamePass and PS5 Pro Owners

Dude you've been talking about doing this for years while still using that as the excuse to use your Xbox.

Just stop the pretence and say you prefer playing on your Xbox, because that's what you actually do.

To be fair, those two things would run him well
Above $1200 if he wants a top tier GPU and one of the recent x3D CPUs.

If you have GamePass, it's more cheaper to get on it, play and move on

Getting the Pro version won't be game changing. Those games already run great on Series X

its a great question. it depends how much time i plan to spend with the game, and how meaningful the visual fidelity is. Claire Obscur i repurchased on PS5 because the pro gives it an edge in performance, and also i wanted to support the devs.

Doom the dark ages ill likely play on series x unless the DF review comes out and says the pro makes a material difference. Will be case by case for me, but weirdly game pass is becoming more my go to for retro / multiplayer games, while PS is where i go for singleplayer narrative. Will see how the gen continues, if the gap gets bigger for pro vs xsx i may consider winding down my gamepass subscription

No but there were several games I was going to buy that I didn't because I tried them on gamepass and realized they weren't for me. I don't do gamepass anymore, but I had it a few months, years ago. Never did beat a game on it.

I realized something about gamepass devalued games in my eyes and I didn't like it so I quit. I found myself playing less and less and the games I did play didn't seem as fun. I think I just prefer to own my games and dedicate my time to the things I buy instead of being in a virtual sample station with lots of options but none of them are that good. Now that gamepass has more games, it might be different but I'll never know.

Outer Wilds spoilers:

Specifically the game I'm thinking about is outer wilds. It is already a hard game to get into and when I came across it on gamepass I just kinda skimmed and didn't really understand it. I ended up uninstalling and went online to look at the story. I read the whole thing including the twist at the end concerning what actually causes the explosion. Later I was told that the game was a masterpiece and I didn't give it a fair shot. I then realized that it was because of the disposable nature of games on gamepass that caused me to overlook a game that could have meant something to me if I paid money for it and valued it even though I didn't like it at first. Gamepass makes me have worse tastes because I'm only focused on my first impression when many of the best games take a 2nd look to fully reveal their quality. Instead of trusting my gut I'm trusting the first few hours of the game and usually my gut is a better judge. Also based off first impressions no game was really good enough that I tried. Like I was overly harsh on some good games. Investment from the player is needed to truly enjoy a game, for me anyway.

Can't help you with the Pro part, but as a OG PS5 and SX owner, I'd say the split of my gaming by platform is 85 : 15 in Xbox's favor because of GP and me just generally preferring that controller.
I just bought a pro and I as well prefer the Xbox for multis because of the controller

This is an Xbox™

Don't overthink it, play wherever you feel like and use Gamepass if that's possible, otherwise buy.

My PC has been my Xbox for awhile now, so no changes here. Still using Gamepass for Microsoft's stuff as usual and gets flooded with new releases like never before, the last 6 months has been legit awesome. The Pro is for Sony's games when I can't wait for PC ports.

I made a little mini game for myself where I try to get a game on the platform most appropriate for it. I have ps, xbox, xbox app for pc, and steam; ps plus premium and game pass ultimate. If it's part of a series I try to play it on the platform of the previous title; I try to make my game collection representative of myself and also of the kind of image the company is trying to build - for me, playstation is the japanese/triple A/indie console, while xbox is the enthusiast box. Steam is for kbm games and games that suffered performance issues last gen on console. I buy stuff on sale 80% of the time. I try to respect the investment the developers, publishers, and platform holders put into each game by really getting to know the game - I platinum and 100 good games and I'm trying to be more active on ps stars and ms rewards.

This would be an issue for me to and I'd be going PS5 Pro all the time. The thing is when it comes to gaming it's my hobby and I don't nickel and dime my way through it. I had to do that when I was a kid and I'm not doing that anymore. I treat gaming like my vacations. I'm not here to try and save as much money as possible. I'm here to try and have the best experience possible and I have the money to pay for that.

Now you might be telling yourself well then you should be on PC. I tried that and it was garbage. I had to many issues come up. Maybe once I can build a gaming PC that is truly controller only I will do that. Even then not all games on PC have controller support which is something else I ran into. Like Pillars of Eternity has a console version but the PC version still has no controller support? Why? Even POE2 doesn't have it.

Well now it's a different matter and I can agree. But for the IQ ps5 pro give really a pleasant boost especially for 60 fps mode or quite demanding game. But I know the price is not accessible to all and it's a real pity.
I can buy it, I just don't think it's worth the money. There is like only one PS5 game I'm interested in, and buying one for an IQ upgrade is not worth the money. I'd rather save that money for the Switch 2 when better games come out for that system.

Game Pass has no doubt been amazing so far in 2025. With the likes of Oblivion Remastered and Expedition 33 releasing in just the past few weeks with Doom The Dark Ages and Ninja Gaiden 4 releasing soon.

The issue is, whilst I have a subscription, I also know the best console version of the game is on the PS5 due to the Pro console. This alone makes me want to pick up the PS5 version of some of these games despite essentially having the Xbox version 'free'.

What are some of you doing, sticking to the Xbox version or investing more to play these games on the Pro?
So you'd rather pay full price for the game for marginally better graphics/performance than get it in with your subscription which you have anyway? 🙄😂

I haven't considered buying older games for PS5 Pro if I can play them on Game Pass. If there's a newer Game Pass game that's better on PS5 Pro than XSX and I usually just play it on PC Game Pass. If it's a newer release I want to own, meaning I'll play it more than once, I'll buy it on PS5 and maybe double dip on PC later. I still enjoy the experience of console gaming more so pretty much every console game I buy for the rest of the generation is going to be on PS5 or Switch.

I play on PC

And also pc:

Gamepass and series x is the way to go
The full MSRP of the games and for minimal upgrades on pro are not worth it.
And all the PC boys I've got 4 letters for u
G t a 6

I don't like not owning my games so game pass is just to try a game or play one I'll never buy. I'll always buy on ps5 first

Even though I have an Xbox with Game Pass, I bought a PS5 Pro for a reason — to experience games at the highest possible fidelity and performance on consoles. I'm willing to purchase and own the titles I care about, even if they're available on Game Pass, to take advantage of those enhancements — unless it's a low-stakes game I don't mind just trying out.
