A ridiculous number of Atari Flashbacks at my local Best Buy

I went into my local Best Buy this morning and was stunned to see a huge stack of those Atari Flashback systems. 240 of them! I realize they're only $50 and there's a nostalgia factor at work but you only get 20 games(mostly 2600, a couple 7800). I think someone may have overestimated demand.

I looked... The Atari Anthology is out for PC / PS2 / Xbox. It costs $20 and comes w/ 85 games. Only idiots will buy Atari Flashback.

Don't you get way more games in the Atari Xbox game they just released? Isn't it cheaper too? :lol

Yeah, there's around 80 games. 16 arcade games and 65 Atari 2600 games. And according to the case it supports 1080i. Why you need hi-def for 2600 games is beyond me.

It says the interface is in hi-deg. Whoop dee doo!

The Atari Flashback uses Atari 7800 controllers, I believe, so it doesn't even beat the Xbox / PS2 / PC versions for faithfulness.

What a joke! :lol

I think they're gearing up for Black Friday. Don't underestimate the shopping crowd

True, but this is pretty pricey compared to similar products. Best Buy has the Sega Genesis 6 game controller for $15 this week.

This is only like $15 - $20 and comes w/ ten games.

Anyone who buys that Atari Flashback is competely brain dead.

I remember the under $50 rap commercial for the original, or was it the 5200? Maybe I don't remember so well.

2600...

"The fun is back oh yesiree
The 2600 from A-tar-i."

...or people that don't own a current system. You DO realize that's the point of these things, right? Whether its a good deal or not I'm not going to get into, but 40-somethings all played atari, and most of them don't game anymore...

The 2600 from A-tar-i.

The video system with classics galore
From Space Invaders to Cars that roar.

A real hip joystick controls the screen
Solaris is hot and Midnight Magic is mean.

And one more thing, it's got a special low price...
Under 50 bucks! 50 bucks? Now isn't that nice?

Non-centering joysticks, hahaha! (damn you Unison, I got your joke and you edited)

And those paddle controllers w/ games are fly. How can you front on those?!

Idiots, I say! :lol

The paddles are acceptable though...

I don't think they're a bad deal at all. Yes you could get a console version with more titles, but they set you back a minimum of $120. (A GCN and a copy of the game)

It's the ET debacle again!

What's wrong, Atari fell out of love with landfills since they went out of business, and came back, and went out of business, and came back, and went out of business again?

Shame they aren't stocking the all-in-one C64's. They're little hotties.

Yeah, but apparently those are going to be exclusive to QVC at least until January. I'm planning on picking up one of those as a gift. I'm just hoping that the packaging isn't going to be one of the "have to destroy it to get it open" type, as I'd sure like to, ahem, test it before I give it, just to make sure that it all works and everything, of course.

damn i want one of those

i can't find it on the QVC webpage... what's the name of this thing? "64dtv" doesn't come up.

It's not on the QVC webpage yet. I actually contacted them trying to find out stuff about the item and they told me that typically, stuff doesn't go on their webpage before it starts getting sold on TV. And since they're going to start selling it this friday...

Once it's friday, though, there's a section on their site that lists the products shown on a certain day/hour on the actual channel.

If you're interested in learning more about the units, there was already a thread here.

The main reason I'm planning on picking one up is because it's got BOTH Impossible Mission games on it. It's a crying shame there's no Archon or MULE, though...

Check QVC (either on TV or on their Web site) starting on the 26th. That's when it officially becomes available. If you're watching it on TV, then it'll probably be shown several times a during that day. I know they have a video game show scheduled for one hour from 3 PM to 4 PM Eastern time that day, so that might be a good time to look for it. Also, check right after midnight Eastern time.

I'm looking forward to both Impossible Mission games, too! I adored the first one, but oddly enough never even played the second (heard mixed reviews on it at the time).
