Never read the book, but this is probably my favorite Keanu Reeves movie. I just love the look overall. Linklater at his best by long mile.

Movie was interesting from what I recall, saw it back on release, great art style. Don't really remember much of the plot though...

This is one of my top ten movies, though I don't watch it very often. I thought the cast was great, Keanu Reeves, Robert Downey Jr, Alex Jones, what more could you ask for? It explores a number of interesting topics. I also like the fact that they make the drug a bit mysterious. If you make a movie that honestly depicts heroine or meth, even if it depicts it in the darkest light there are people I know who would watch that movie and be like "You mean it could mess up my life so bad I will make the worst possible decision? Sign me up, that sounds like a helluva rush."

It is a bit subtle but I like that in the movie they showed how a lot of the mass surveillance was supposed to work. I think this movie has the best depiction of where the tech will be, and how it will actually be used in the next few years. I've watched the movie 5-6 times. If you are a real high IQ person you might be able to pickup on everything that is going on the first time. To be honest there was a lot going on in the movie that I missed or didn't fully understand the first time. The movie doesn't hold your hand, it shows you what these people are going through mostly from their perspective, and so there are somethings going on in the movie that you have to really think about or that you might not pickup on till you've seen it more than once.

I only watched it once or twice, maybe... 15 years ago? Or a bit less.. Anyway, I remember enjoying it, can't go much further than that, I liked Robert Downey Jr in cel-shade, and yeah, it was pretty fun... Haven't read the book, but if the book is way better... that'd be pretty in-line with how these things go...

I loved it, seen it a few times. That being said, it's worth a rewatch and I haven't seen it in a few years so I'm due for one.

The best part of the movie is definitely the rotoscoping visual effect, but the story is interesting and strange, and the casting is cool. Keanu plays a pretty serious role, RDJ is a weirdo, and there's some interesting Richard Linklater writing and relationships and detailed/thoughtful stuff going on. You also have Winona Ryder, Woody Harrelson, and even Alex Jones making appearances haha.

If you liked A Scanner Darkly then you should watch Waking Life (and vice versa), another Linklater rotoscoping movie that is ... a trip.
