About Burnout 3, EA and Criterion

I finally got the game (Ps2 version)(it was nearly sold out everywhere and I couldn't get a proper copy on release) and I am kinda disgusted at some points of it.

The game rocks. The gameplay is solid as hell and there are tons of ways to play through it: you can play being a "good driver" or slamming cars to walls or just; you decide and this rocks. The graphics are nice and one can't find a complaint about it, not even loading times after having the game installed on HDD.

However there are some flaws too that make me angry. I think the last EA game I played was Fifa 96 on Sega Saturn. It's fun to see how EA does things. First they add a whole soundtrack that couldn't be worse to my tastes and probably a lot of more people. I don't see variation of styles, it's just shit that in theory it's supposed to appeal to the casual masses...Well, I guess I don't enter in that group. The only song I like is an old hit from "The Ramones"... I would have prefered to see the old guitar tunes from Burnout/Burnout 2. Perhaps don't appeal to everybody but I liked them, specially the music in Burnout 1.

Then there is the advertisements on the game. EA thinks that a game is a cinema where you can place ads before the film...just that they have redefined the formula and have placed ADS in the whole game.
I think that I am highly biased against them since I didn't care about it on MGS2, RRT4 or other games with tons of advertisements.

In general terms I am loving the game just that the music selection is hurting me a lot.

I honestly see nothing wrong with putting ads on billboards in the game. Doesn't detract from the experiance at all, and actually makes it a bit more true to life.

As for the music, it grows on you. Just go through and turn the best songs to "Race Only" and the rest of them to "Menu Only". That pretty much solved the music problem for me as I only like about 8 songs out of the 44.

Yeah, I know Mike.

I even said MGS2, RRT4. Although I also remember the original MGS, Shenmue, Gran Turismo, Resident Evil, Project Justice... There are a lot.

My problem is that and ad of Powerstone 2 in the Tokyo Dome of Rival Schools 2 makes me smile although an ad of Tiger Woods 2005 in the top of a building doesn't :(.

So, on the one hand, you hate the music in the game and think lots of people hate it, too.

On the other hand, you think EA should put in the old music from previous Burnout games because that music appeals to you, while still admitting that this change would probably annoy a lot of people.

Come on.

I say what I don't like and what I would like. Sorry but I don't see the problem there.
I think the problem with the old soundtracks was that many people didn't notice them. I think it's better people doesn't notice music than hates it.

I got kinda sick of BO3 half way through, everything was the same only a bit faster, rubberband AI makes the races dumb, the crash zones were fun but the add-ons to make it all about getting the x4 rather than actualy creating the best crashes. I really liked the EA trax at first, especailly the way it tells you the name of the song, i did get kinda sick of that too though.

Pretty though.

I think they sould have implemented the world tour mode in another way. The way it is done doesn't allow you to fully appreciate the beauty of tracks. The European ones are very nice. Specially that one that makes you race through a western Europe city. Very nice.

Finally bought a new PSP, but then pushed the demon onto someone else. Jesus.
The no custom soundtracks on PS2 games thing sucks. That alone can make most not-so-great games rather good IMO.

The music is the reason why I decided to play it on XBOX (even though I prefer the visuals on the PS2 version). The soundtrack is shit, so the ability to define your own music is VERY important...

Yeah, it made pole position suck royally [/rolleyes]

Get over it. EA Hate is a disease. I agree about the crappy music though and the DJ I shut off in the options immediately.

Frankly, I've never understood why people are fussed about music in games... unless of course it's a music-game, like Rez or Amplitude or Vib Ribbon or Donkey Konga etc

If you don't like the music, turn its volume down (most games separate the bgm and the sound effects) and turn on the radio or put on a CD you do like or that you do think fits...

For instance, I found Burnout 3 works nicely with some obscenely bass-driven mid-90s drum'n'bass; whereas I like the Exorcist soundtrack for Luigi's Mansion, and 1970s porn film music for Fable.

When GTA 3 came out, everyone was banging on about how amazing it was that there was a radio with different stations. I've had a radio my whole entire life, with more stations and more variety than that.... Rockstar might as well have not put music in the game and bundled each copy with a free radio.

I think game music should be just that, music composed for the game. None of this licensed pop song malarkey. All the original crews do it right, Nintendo, Sega, Namco etc with stupid ditties and musical scores, that's waht I want with game music. nd hwen it grates on my nerves,I#'ll turn it down and put on a CD.

Simple :)

One of the worst soundtracks I've heard. Totally ill-fitting the game.

Absolutely. The only good track in it is by The Ramones, and even that gets grating after looping continuously.

There's a big difference between relatively innocuous background sound and the shite angsty guitar bollocks EA want to foist upon the player in Burnout 3. It oversteps the boundaries of decency.
Burnout might as well have Iggy Pop waving his cock at you while playing. It's distracting.

A-ha, sensory distraction, the cheapest trick in the book. It's a bit like night-time levels that are hard because you can't see properly. Quite below the belt.

I recommend full sensory deprivation when wishing to behave awesomely in Burnout 3. Never mind your feedback wheels and racing pods. This is the offical Burnout 3 concentration-suit (just don't ask where the controller goes)

I can't comprehend why so many people rag on the Burnout 3 music. I think it's got a rather good selection of music. There are a handful of songs I could do without, but I'd say that at least half of the soundtrack is good to great.
