Marvel burnout/Wolverine reception

Personally, I'm less and less interested in the Wolverine game, I'm more interested in Dc right now. If there are still games to come.

But I'm much more annoyed by Spiderman games. Far too many in too short a time, even if they were good for the most part, but part 2 killed any joy in the series for me.

Not only is Wolverine a fundamentally cool character, I believe he has somehow even avoided being absolutely ruined as a character in the movies.

I think a Wolverine game still makes sense, whereas Wonder Woman would have flopped at any point in the last few years and it's insane they carried on developing that as long as they did.

Wolverine is still at least in the top 10 of the most popluar superheros + Sony's big marketing = easy 10-15 million sales.

Movies being bad (which is the actual reason for "burn out") won't have any effect on a game if it will be good and vice versa.

I dont see any correlation. There hasnt been a single game or film I can think of that failed because of burnout from the IP having too many projects. The Batman films didnt impact the games, they were both good on their own merits. On the flip side WB released a string of bad DC films on top of two 200M AAA video game flops, but people are still excited for a new DC game and Superman movie. Another example is The Indianna Jones game being well received despite the last 2-3 Indianna films seen as flops. I think this is a non issue. You may be confusing burnout from oversaturation as burnout to bad products. This problem doesnt exist for IPs like Mario, Call of Duty, Mortal Kombat, Pokemon, Fromsoft games or Yakuza games; movies like James Bond, John Wick, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, etc.

Wolverine is one of the most popular superhero characters, and the Dead Pool and Wolverine movie was just the first rated R movie to make a billion from theater releases. Marvel films is a great example of how people are just burned out from poor quality, not oversautation. The last Wolverine game was made over a decade ago, and even the past 3-4 Marvel games released were big successes; Spiderman 2, Marvels Rivals, Midnight Suns and Guardians of The Galaxy.

Actually I think Fast and the Furious might be the only IP I can think of where the oversaturation impacted its reception over time, but really...its just a franchise about illegal street racing.

Whatever I saw in the leak looked more like Wokeback Mountain tbh
I liked the part where you could see shirtless wolverine from the back and his thong was pulled up higher than his jeans. I think they call that a whale tail?

Never underestimate brick-brained sports fans' penchant for "I like when car go fast" movies

People have been talking about superhero burnout for years.

The problem is bad movies. Deadpool & Wolverine grossed over $1b. Thunderbolts is doing well right now. Dr Strange 2 despite being an okay movie made almost $1b. The Batman, Guardians 3, Across the Spiderverse were all well received. No Way Home made almost $2b.

There is no superhero fatigue. There's lower tolerance for bad movies.

I think when it comes to the Marvel movies, there is a bit of a fatigue. But I think there will always be interest in superheroes in other forms of media. Especially videogames. X-Men is a unique enough franchise that it does not fall under the 'traditional' super hero genre. I think it does mix things up with the mutant powers of every walk of life, type of trope that it runs with. Wolverine is a pretty classic antihero. Which always has a place.

I also want to add that one of the biggest 'Marvel" movies in the last few years was Deadpool and Wolverine. I think there's interest. But the problem is, X-men and Wolverine games as a whole have generally been hit or miss when it comes to overall quality.

I've been reading a lot of stuff about the apparent exhaustion among fans of the Marvel movies and shows due to over-saturation of releases. I saw a graph the other day that was charting the popularity/profit of Marvel releases since Avengers: Endgame and it's been trending down year over year.

How do you think this will affect reception of the Wolverine game when it comes out? Do you think it will fall flatter than expected? How do you think it'll stack up against the Spider Man games' success?

I have zero interest in the Marvel stuff but I thought bringing Wolverine's upcoming release into the Marvel burnout fold might lead to some good discussion.

There is no marvel fatigue or star wars fatigue.

There is dogshit ideas badly writing/made movie fatigue.

They had a terrible after end game plan .. basically centered around female and diverse/obscure characters and it failed miserable. And they continue to be oblivious to why.. just check the fantastic 4 trailer, pure brainfart diarrhea.

Wolverine and Deadpool went really well and even if not perfect gave fans what they wanted. Some classic fun.

Try making an Iron Man classic hero movie no woke/feminist bullshit with somehow Robet D. Passing the torch to another younger self from another reality or something and watch easily make 1.5 Billion. Im not a comic book fan but Im sure there has to be a shitload of reboot stories for this character.

They're just gonna make Peter Parker be Iron Man at this rate

I can't argue with that. Shit movies will always repel theatre goers away from the cinemas.

The Deadpool movies really fall under the darker tone of the 20th Century Fox super hero banner. They are targeted at a completely different audience. Personally, I think people find them to be a breath of fresh air in comparison to the more family-approved Disney-Marvel stuff. Deadpool and Wolverine also fall into the 'old man Logan' darkest timeline continuity from the Fox movie end. From Days of Future Past onwards, the Fox X-men universe was split into multiple timelines. With some movies being flat out ignored... Bryan Singers X-Men 3 for example...

As for Star Wars... I think it works better in waves. A steady stream of Star Wars hype 24/7 will leave to inevitable burn out. So I think leaving cooling periods in the main tent poll releases is always a good idea. Release three big movies... take a break and focus on other venues like TV shows, games, merch, the odd side film. Follow it up with a new hype train of films, when the nostalgia kicks back in.

Star wars could have done exactly what marvel did.. it was at a time the biggest franchise ever... unfortunately it was hijacked by some third Reich feminazi who has some dirty on Disney Executives and we will never know really what could have been.

The leak showed the dei infection, so I don't give a shit about insomniac anymore, especially after SM2. Either these sony studios get rid of this sickness or I will keep buying asian games or AA games like clair obscure.

Think a lot of the recent Marvel movies are falling flat because they feature heroes that aren't really "mainstream".

Wolverine doesn't fall into that category.

I'm burnt out of "epic" gaming shit in general, that leans into realism, like Spidey.

Whereas Marvel Rivals leaned into comic book everything, need more of this.

And forcing shit unfun gameplay bits like MJ, walking and talking, just boring unheroic stuff.

At this moment I just want something fun, colourful and enjoyable like the...comics or cartoons. Not a grand epic, AAA fest, realistic looking game.

(Those games are fine to exist, I am just kinda bored of them)

They nailed it here. All they have to do is have that gameplay refined a bit and make it into a wide linear character action game. No open world bullshit with Wolvie helping the local community center.
underrated gem at the day, here locally at least. nobody know this game, unfortunately, the game is simply rocking solid

What happened to Wolverine? I thought it was releasing this year
It might but if it did I'd guess around the holidays. Could also just as easily see it getting pushed to 2026 if those leaked builds were any indication of the state of the game; seems like it still needed some time to cook.

Last month Insomniac tweeted: "We're actively working on Marvel's Wolverine for PS5. We'll share news about the game when *we* are ready to share it. That will always be our answer." Sounds (rightfully) pretty salty about the leaks but at least it's confirmation they're still working on it.

I think Sony have blown their load prematurely and they're going to get raw dawged by Marvel. A deal made 7 years too late.
