"Academic Discounts" for Software....

I'm working on starting a small business and there are a few software programs I need. Being a college student, I qualify to buy the software with a 'student discount' which will save me a ton of money.

While most companies just offer a discount off a retail product, Microsoft actually has separate academic versions of its software which have a disclaimer saying that the academic versions can only be used for academic purposes. So I know I can't buy their products and use them for my purposes. But the other companies just offer a discount off the normal product, so I assume I can use those in my small business. Am I correct in assuming this?

You sure you read well? I have not once, encountered any academic software or any software with an academic discount that doesn't carry the "only for academic purposes" some where.

What software is this? I've worked with a ton of software in my academic career, not one of them allowed their academic discoutned/version software to be used for any business purpose.

they call me "Man Gravy".
considering that Microsoft heavily advertises (at least, on my former campus) to seniors with a "get it at a discount while you can" mentality, I'm sure they're aware that students do continue to use the product after they leave school. I wouldn't worry too much about it, unless you plan on starting up a small business that could really draw the attention of these companies.
