Can't wait for this game :D

hmmm, what do you think this is, one of the concept designs for the B3 hyper sonic bomber?

I don't see it being far fetched. afterall, the USAF had this in the 1960s

Interesting looks like Namco stuck their own version of the Aurora in there...

Well, AC4 turned out to be one of their best selling games this gen (over a million in the US alone), so I'm not surprised they're paying so much attention to detail. I liked AC4, but it felt kind of repetitive after a while.

Looks like Namco is reusing Rena Hayami from R. Racing Evolution :P

Her name's Kei Nagase -- maybe some descendant of Reiko's ^_^

The Arkbird is described not as a bomber, but a single-stage-to-orbit launch vehicle. A spaceship, in other words.

DFS.

Looks more like the NASA space plane that was supposed to replace the Space Shuttle. X23 or maybe X43, I can't remeber what experimental name it had.

This game is absolutely beautiful. As photorealistic as you can get in a console based flight sim IMO. Namco just set the standard.

Loved the fourth game, seems like this will be at least as good. At least as good-looking, for sure. :)
Color me impressed, hyped, ready to pay up for this work of airborne art! Thank you Namco.

come on military aircraft experts, tell me what this is supposed to be, or might be supposed to be??
an advanced nextgeneration bomber I assume....

Its waaaaay too big to be anything actually in development. In that screen shot that craft is HUGE. Can't find anything on the books that even looks close.

I believe that's the space shuttle trailing it in that image... that baby is off the known scale for any craft possibly in production.

oh shit! I didnt notice the space shuttle trailing that plane. no way that's in development right now. edit: yet im not totally convinced that is the shuttle.

Dude! They have (had?) one of those things in the Wright Patterson Air Force Museum. It looms over about half of a giant hanger. I took pictures with a five dollar Kodak camera!!

Very doubtful that'll happen. The series has only appeared on PS platforms since it started.

I thought they ported one of the Ace Combat games to the Dreamcast. Am I wrong? If I am what game am I thinking of?

Actually the only airflight games released on DC were Aerowings 1 + 2 and Air Force Delta. CRI made the former with Konami making the later.

DCX

And yet compared to that the Arkbird is 'ginormous' :D

The Aerodancing games on DC are probably the best flight simulators on console...Specially Aerodancing-I.

BTW, this plane is a B-70, the plane that was called to substitute the old B-52 but that don't succeeded in the task. Much more older than the B-3...

Ah yes. I'm pretty sure it was Air Force Delta. I played it on the kiosk at funcoland and was quite underwhelmed. The jets flew incredibly slow and the graphics were deplorable. As if that wasn't enough, the controls seemed unresponsive.

That experience completely turned me off to these types of games, even though I have great interest in the genre. I was convinced from this demo that the technology just wasn't there yet to produce the kind of game I wanted. When PS2 launched, most of its games were still very close to Dreamcast quality graphics, so when the first PS2 Ace Combat came out I ignored it, thinking it wouldn't be much better than Air force Delta.

Nowadays PS2 graphics are much better than they were at launch, so I'm hoping Ace Combat can at least look decent when I fly closer to objects. These screenshots look great, but they are all taken high above the ground, so I guess I don't know yet what to expect of the in game graphics. Still, it's 20,000 leagues better looking than Air Force Delta was, and the series critical aclaim, as well as its loyal fanbase makes me believe it will play well.

Long story short: Ace Combat 5 +1

The plane had a name dammit... the Valkyrie.

And for those wondering what was so special about it.... It used compression lift to help support itself during supersonic flight.... and the hook for that was the ability to drop it's wings per this picture:
xb-70.gif

As a kid I use to love planes, had books, upon books upon book about them. The Valkyrie was one of my favorite in this old book called Aircraft of the World I think.... which I actually still have in my attic.

The arkbird looks to be a flying air/space base from the size of it... that rear shoot with the trailing fighters looks to show at least what 2 hanger bays? If one of the landings you have to do is on that.....wow.....

Not to stray too far from the topic, but I just found these pics of the XB-70 taken right after it collided with an F-104 chase. I understand the F-104 got too close, got caught up in the vortex trailing hte Valkyrie's wing, and was flipped upside down onto the Valkyrie's tail.

Ground detail is still massively stretched textures, but it's not quite as pronounced as AC4, and a lot more of the buildings are modelled rather than painted on.

It's curious how the B-70 looks much more modern than what in fact was the later to come B-1 despite being the later a newer model.

I've never played an Ace Combat game, but this makes me want to start.

But do you need to be good at flight sims to play this title?

Here's a google image search on the XB-70 lots of different pictures.

Forty Ace Combat's usually have multiple difficulties... even on regular difficulty the early missions tend to be very easy. Some would say all of Ace 4 was easy... but that's another argument.

found some demo impressions of the OPM demo on GameFaqs...

"Yeah, I got the new OPM demo disc and, I don't really know how to describe it, so just ask any questions and I will answer them... unless that makes you think that I haven't played it... so I guess i will describe it. It starts off with the trailer that involves them talking abut allies and wars and how it's all a big daemon. Then you have to press start and you choose your plane, you have the choice between two, the F-14A or the F/A-18E, your call-sign is BLAZE and then you choose your wing-men's planes, they're call-signs are EDGE, CHOPPER and ARCHER. Then, of course, you start the mission and the mission is to destroy 8 cargo planes and its optional to destroy the fighter, but its helpful. The d-pad wingmen controls are as follows: UP-Attack, RIGHT-Special weapon arm/disarm, DOWN- Cover and LEFT- Disperse. As for the graphics, they are extremely crisp and the plane models look awesome, and the ground doesn't really blur at all the closer you get, there re even 3-dimensional trees, anyway, like I said, ask any questions that come to mind."
