Actors/Actresses who ruined their careers with a single move.

Elizabeth Berkley - Showgirls. What a terrible decision to do this bomb and lose the image she built on Saved by the Bell.

Josh Hartnett - Star was on the rise after Blackhawk Down, Pearl Harbor. Slated to become Batman in Nolan's trilogy only to act like an ass and get blacklisted by every director.

Mel Gibson - He's slowly coming back, but man, he went from being an A-list director/Actor to nobody in a blink of an eye.

Wait, what did Josh Hartnett do? I thought the story of his disappearance was that he got tired of the fame and wanted to move back home to have a quiet life lol.

For real?

I don't know if it was quite a single move but Katherine Heigl sunk her career in record speed.

But Mel Gibson is worth like 800 million bucks he's good.

Didn't Hartnett willingly decided he wasn't interested in being a part of the Hollywood system anymore? Or was that just ex post facto spin on his part?

My answer would be...

rs_634x864-140702073918-634.Katherine-Heigl-Marie-Claire-UK-JR-7214.jpg

Katherine Heigl. She is a case study in how to fuck over your own career. She left Grey's Anatomy, which made her a household name, shit talking it on her way out. Then she just signed up for a string of bland forgetable rom-coms. Nothing wrong with that, but you gotta diversify your resume if you're going to survive. Being the "It Girl/Guy" in Rom Coms is a short term game. By the time she wanted to move on to something else, she had the reputation of being hard to work with. Tried to come back to TV and has flopped there, and might flop again next year. If she had just left on better terms, I think more projects would have been willing to "deal" with her post 2010.

Jennifer Grey got a nose job.

EDIT: Dammit, beaten.

You forgot that she also shit talked her first major film role in Knocked Up either just before or just after it got released.

to be fair, saved by the bell wasn't really a launching point for any of their careers acting wise( MARIO has made a living as a host mainly and MPG has shows here and there). That was likely her best chance at actually becoming a star

I completely forgot about that. So yeah, Katherine Heigl takes an L for shit talking her big roles.

Thora Birch is even worse, her porn star father coached her sex scenes and was a general asshole to people and threatening a cast member on a play she was in. He got her fired from that and many other jobs.

Would've been my choice too. Burned too many bridges

I thought Josh Hartnett stepped away from Hollywood after that horror movie 30 Days of Night or something like that.

yep

Regarding fame, Hartnett has said, "I know what it's like to be in that whole world. I was up there for a couple of years, and it was uncomfortable. I think trying to stay at the top is a shortcut to unhappiness." Hartnett also took a break from acting, saying "I spent a bit of time really thinking about whether this was the right thing for me."

Is empire doing that well??

How is he doing compared to don cheadle? I'm sure if Howard could do things again, he'd love to stay on the marvel gravy train
Yeah. Empire is one of the most successful shows on tv right now. I'd definitely say he's doing better than Cheadle

Also not every marvel actor is taking in huge amounts of money

Katie Holmes? She was like the "it" girl coming off Dawson's Creek, gets a role in a Batman reboot but right before release she boards the Tom Cruise crazy train and on the PR tour for Batman Begins she ends up promoting Cruises War of the Worlds. I remember her telling Letterman they should see that instead. Lol

This.

Camilla Belle with 10,000 B.C. I feel like Hollywood was setting her up to be the next huge young movie star. Then the movie flopped critically and monetarily.

RE: the Josh Hartnett stuff, I think his only mistake was he took his break at a very critical juncture in his career in terms of being out there for casting directors looking for someone like him for roles, especially as he was coming off of some pretty big flops like Hollywood Homicide and The Black Dahlia that were already making his leading man credentials questionable. I don't doubt that it was because of flops like those that he wanted some relief, but that's just how the game is played.

Wasn't Michael Beck riding high after The Warriors in '79 only to immediately ruin his career with Xanadu the next year?
