Adblocker resistant sites

I had this funny message recently that I thought I'd share from a site that doesn't like adblockers.

Yes, I do know that my blocker is impacting my experience, lol. That's why I'm using it. :P
 
I don't mind the messages that just ask you to consider disabling adblocker.
But if a site wants to force me to disable it I'll usually just go back and get what I'm looking for from somewhere else.
 
Some of them can be gotten around by locking at a search engine's cached version of the page, but the vast majority of places that do that aren't special enough to bother turning off the blocker for anyway. Their content is disposable, and few would be sad if the site in question went under.
 
There is uBlock origin you can use to block the pop up message. It's easy enough to use. Some sites are still able to lock clicking and scrolling around though.
 
Install Tampermonkey, add Anti-Adblock killer. Problem solved.

or

Right-click the warning box and choose "Inspect" in the context menu. In the console find div class element responsible for showing you an anti-adblocking pop-up, right-click, hide element. Problem solved.

I've honestly just stopped going to websites that try to stop me from using an adblocker. If they're nice enough to ask, and I actually use the site frequently, I go out of my way to unblock the ads. Earn my damn eyeball time damn it!
 
A think a lot of sites are taking the ads too far. If they were responsible, they would get put on safe lists. When they demand I turn it off, I just go elsewhere. Most sites rarely have anything unique or information not readily available elsewhere.

i also find that it's usually the big outlets. Nothing lost there.

It isn't worth taking the 5 seconds out to turn adblock off.
I just nope back out if they block me for ad block.

I don't mind if they ask me politely, but if they are really aggressive with it i will just look elsewhere for that information.
 
I get those because I have javascript turned off and cookies blocked.

Yeah especially when it's some po-dunk local newspaper that you will never ever visit again and they want you to make an account. I don't care if the account is free, I'm not gonna jump through hoops to read the rest of the 'local man sets fire to his balls' story.
 
With how insane the ads have gotten on YouTube, I really wished Adblock worked on iPhone. (An 11 minute video doesn't need four sets of 2 unskippable ads, seriously, wtf)
 
Yeah delete the app. Less tracking, one less app to fill up your phone, more battery life and no ads. Make sure you are loading the mobile version of YouTube.
 
If the site has readable text, I just disable JavaScript. I don't need 5 videos playing anyway.

I've never heard of pihole before. It's curious
 
If it just a news article you want to read with no video or anything I would suggest megaproxy and use the free surf option. It will auto-block all ads and scripts running on the site.

If you want video or dynamic content this won't work. I use it to get around all the paywalls on news sites.

Just highlight title of news article search google and view it on google cache lot easier for paywall sites, my local news has started doing it so annoying.
 
Quite a lot of big sites do that now. If the site is forcing me to whitelist it or disable ad blocker to be able to access its content, then it's my last time there.
 
TVTropes has a very persistent nag filter "THIS IS PAGE 300,000 YOU HAVE WATCHED THIS MONTH WITHOUT ADS". If you dismiss it, like when you dismiss the cookies notice, it takes you back to the main page. A minor annoyance sure, but it's a pain in the ass when you're reading something.

You generally have to add a custom filter in uBlock to make it go away, but they change the code every few months so it's always a temporary respite.
 
9 out of 10 times, all those blockers do is put a div node on your screen whilst disabling the overflow of the page. If you really, really need to read something on such a site, you can easily remove the warning with inspect element, then enable the overflow scrolling on the html or body.
