Advance Wars 3 = Famicom Wars DS

Forgot to mention this yesterday (sorry if it's already been posted). Advance Wars 3 is now known as "Famicom Wars DS: Battle of Omega Land" in Japan, and has a "2005" release date.

The final name may change, of course, but as of right now, that's it. Confirms that Intelligent Systems is the developer, too, not that we didn't know that already. Also, the first character they show is named John. AWW YEAH

Ahem.

Sweet.

I will assume John is the character wearing headphones? Where do they show him?

It'll probably be Advance Wars 3 or Advance Wars DS in the states - "Advance Wars" is a brand over here.

That be him. I think he's part of Red Star.

Is there a flowing story through the two Advance Wars games, and is it good?

I only ask because these people did Fire Emblem (well, maybe not the same people...). :P

There's a flowing story, but good? Naw, not really. It's mostly just various characters playing off each other and getting into fights.

Ah. Okay. Still have to pick it up sometime.

The "story" in the first game almost made me quit because it was so inane. The story in part 2 is not quite as absurd (sending hundreds to their death for fun little duels) but it is still just a bare backbone to hold the missions together.

Earlier games in the series actually had no story other than Orange (red) Star fighting Blue Moon. The first game didn't even have COs.

Still, the gameplay in both Advance Wars is amazing and actually better strategy than Fire Emblem. I still prefer Fire Emblem.

DS isn't advanced. False advertising is avoided!
so you have nothing better to do that troll for DS threads?

Advance Wars 2 rocks....many many hours of gameplay there. It was good enough to make me want to get the next one in the series whenever it comes out.

Actually, I have never seen Amir0x troll the DS. IRC, he owns a DS.
Maybe i'm just lucky, since i got my DS about a week ago i've been reading all the threads i see about it, and you can usually count on some fairly useless criticisms... and then he says "praise and criticism both have a place in this tread". Its like a formula.

Edit: sorry, i edited to be more explanatory

Thanks for the news. It was never actually confirmed by N or anyone as officially being called AW3. It was something that some hardcore AW fans spotted in the 5 seconds of new footage shown off in Paris.

What is the info from? The new Famitsu? Can I get a scan, or can you tell me ANYTHING else (even if it seems incredibly insiginficant)?

The AW community has a pretty solid list of all the returning and new COs, despite such little media being shown off, so it would mean a lot to them to know more.

Yeah, see, maybe you missed the sarcasm of that joke I made up there. As Advanced Wars is by far one of my favorite GBA games, and I've said as much time after time. Or maybe you missed where I've also said I love my DS, I just wish the American line-up was as stellar looking as the Japanese line-up... because I'm inpatient. The only reason you've noticed a trend is because the following three topics are a pet peeve: Nintendogs, Animal Crossing and Pokemon. And two of them happened to be high on the discussion list these few days.

P.S. You have a poor definition of trolling. Please go back and learn what it actually means. Hint: It doesn't mean "debating topics vigorously about a single subject."

I mean, since they decided to go back to the title "Famicom Wars"...I thought that was an indication. Otherwise they could've just called it DS Wars? :P

Justin -- here ya go. Just please don't direct link to it; feel free to save it and host it yourself somewhere if you need.

Cheers!

Ah, and another CO joins the Black Hole line up, I'm pretty sure we haven't seen it(?) before. Also the damage meter seems to have been given a change, from a bar to an orb type thing. Interesting.

But yeah, John looks great, I've liked how he looked since we first saw him, however I still miss Andy. :( He's yet to be shown, infact this new girl (Rachael?) seems to suggest a replacement, but perhaps he'll make a cameo or turn out to be some supersecret unlockable. Not that I really liked playing as him, just nostalgia really.

We've seen Colin though, so I'm quite happy with that. Now with just a return of Sensei as well, and my favorite COs will all be back in action.

EDIT: No Drake though, yet. Darn. :(

PLEASE may this game use Nintendo and Square-Enix's online network, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Nintendo.

A desert map! Wooohooo. Also im not sure but it seems like the background of the batte scenes will be 3d with the units being sprites, the road sure seems like it.

Ah, a new desert tile and another new CO. Fantastic.

Can someone translate?

edit: Thanks for the scan John. Much appreciated.

Nothing you didn't already know:

The latest entry in Nintendo's popular simulation game series is headed for the Nintendo DS! This version makes use of both of the DS's screens during gameplay. Battles unfold on two battlefields: air combat on the top screen, and ground combat on the bottom screen. Furthermore, let's introduce one of the Shoguns the player will be able to control!

The screenshot on the left shows a combat screen; apparently, during combat the top screen can be used to view all your status info. The screen on the right just shows the bio information for the CO named John.

There'll be many new types of units, maps and so on.

PS -- the actual title for Japan is just "Famicom Wars DS;" I added the subtitle based on the screenshot on the right, which very clearly says "Famicom Wars DS: Battle of Omega Land" in the background.

I'll guess that desert terrain reduces mobility for infantry and tire vehicles but provides little to no cover.

Looks like it could be a passable GBA game.

Cause I'm not too familiar with AW and I dunno the in-game lingo. Now that I think about it, isn't it just CO in English?

I expect tanks units to overheat in the heat of battle and ground troops to be much less effective unless they are accustomed to the environment. Must... resist... purchase... patience!

Although I'm not absolutely 100% positive, I'm almost certain they're never referred to as generals in AW1 or 2. Always CO.

You'll be well advised to actually take your own advice and learn what trolling means.

Given I've read your posts elsewhere in other threads, you come off as one of those passive aggressive trolls who immediately make execuses for a particularly bad troll job to avoid being labeled and ignored, but judging by the fact that most people talk AROUND YOU in this thread, I have to wonder why you even try.

I just wanna see how the simultaneous air/land battle thing works out. This game seems to mix shit up MUCH more than AW2 did, and I can't wait to see how the pieces fall together again. Hope they don't break anything!

Seems like you're hurt, Deku. Are you hurt? I don't think you're talking around me either, Deku. You seem to have even quoted my post! That must be an error of some sorts, we'll get working on that in the database. We don't want your attempts at posting around me to go un-heeded!

But seriously now, you can come up with something better than "oh yeh well U should learn what troll meanz lollers." Because as is made abundantly clear with each passing post, what a troll basically means to the likes of you and certain other people is "when someone argues/debates vigorously against something I like." I'll tell you the same thing I told the others. You don't like what I have to say, put me on ignore. If you want to work something out with me, you go right ahead and PM. Sounds to me like you're a bit defensive, non? So, summary: Gushing is allowed in every thread. Criticism is allowed in every thread. This is a videogame forum on the internet. Lighten up, or use that ignore button you got. I won't be ignoring anyone, because the internet is not serious business.

Hey, if you can call the dogs off be my guest. I love Advance Wars, I don't want this thread ruined either :P

I keep telling them to PM me! :lol

Can you tards NOT argue about semantics for once and talk about the goddamn game?
