So i just bought Advance Wars : Dual Strike

My flatmate gets his DS and we try the DS battle multiplayer mode.

WTF This is not advance wars!

Someone please tell me there is a way to play proper 2 player via wifi ?

Advance Wars is not Wi-Fi enabled and the only way to play the actual core game against each other is if both of you have a cart.

So why does the back of my AW DS package say "Wireless DS Single-Card Download Play"?

Because it has a download multiplayer mode but its a silly real time battle mode, not like the advance wars core game

Dammit, i think ill try and trade it for Kirby then. I bought it to play multiplayer against my flatmate.

Then make him buy the game.

A friend of mine got it on the cheap recently, but unless I have it it won't work in multiplayer. I'm grabbing it at Christmas, though.

I just think it sucks that we have to but two copies. Hes buying castleviania which is out here soon.

Will play it on one DS in hotseat mode, and if we want it bad enough, will buy another copy.

I just expected it to have a proper two player mode via download play, like the box had led me to beleive.

I agree wih you it sucks. But that game is so massive multiplayer it is worth it for you both to buy.

This same thing happened to me this weekend. I don't have many friends that have a Nintendo DS. So I had a bud come over this weekend, and we played Advance Wars. Well, I wasn't to thrilled with the RTS, but we did have some fun with it. I guess its turn based for a good reason.

Hotseat has always been the best way to play AW --- you can actually save your missions.

fuck cordless, or WiFi ----- set up a good pass-arround, keep the game saved, and have a good week-long vs.

Hotseat has always been there, and it's how I play with friends. I don't se how it so often gets overlooked. I like the feature honestly, it's one of the few games I know of that you can play full blown multiplayer with only one unit. Just a benefit of being a turn based game. Single card/cart mode has ALWAYS sucked in Advance Wars.

Hotseat is much better for this game anyway. We used to link up 4 GBAs to play the original AW wth multi-cart, and whenever it wasn't your turn you just sat around like an oaf. Eventually people would get sick of waiting around and they'd all start doing something else while some poor sap was taking his turn. Hot Seat kicks ass cuz you can pass the game around in the car or whatnot. It is really the only way I've ever played a multi-player protable game successfully.

Yeah, I remember playing at Denny's on Friday night for hours. Finally around 2 or 3 am someone's battery would start to die. We'd yell at them to turn the sound down and unplug their light and conserve whatever power they could so we could finish (we never did).

This pissed me off too, but hotseat multiplayer does indeed rule. No question that a single-cart multiplayer mode (REAL AW, not that battle crap) would be more convenient, though...

this kinda surprised me too, but the download play of ADvance Wars one was pretty crappy - a small map, with set deployed units.

The link mode has few gameplay advantages over hotseat (AW1): During fog of War, you can see units trundle through your range of vision, and you can see the battles happening (if I recall correctly - and this only really matters if you are playing against sonja, and you want to see how much damage is done? - can't remember if you can see the health of units during battle).

Hotseat has advantages of setup - players don't get bored, you can play other stuff while passing a game around, or have multiple games going at once (did anyone ever do this?).

Personally, I like the link, because I'm ultra possessive, and I don't want people touching my GB (it's kinda fun huddled up with your own unit). They need to allow you to do something while it's not your turn, say, examine the units and map, or allow some kind of pictochat with other nonactive players (haha for making alliances, and telling other people what you can see).
