Hi guys,

I want to buy a PC for my son, he is turning 10. I'm a exclusive console player so I need some advice. I found this pre-build PC. Is it any good/worth the price €1649

Case: AZZA Prime ARGB Gaming PC
Motherboard : Gigabyte B650M Gaming X AX
Cooling: be quiet! - Pure Rock Slim 2
Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 - 7800X3D - 4.2 GHz
Cores: 8
Memory: 32 GB - DDR5 - 5200 MHz
SSD: 1 TB - M.2 - NVMe
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 - 12 GB GDDR7
Audio: Realtek HD Audio 7.1-channel
Netwerk: 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet
Netwerk: Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax)
Bluetooth: 5.3
System: Windows 11 Pro
: 850 watt
Warrenty: 3 jaar Carry-in

Pretty decent but yeah I'd maybe look into a PC with 9070 or 9070 XT if you can if not for 16GB VRAM. But otherwise the PC is pretty great and will run games like Roblox, Minecraft, Fortnite etc perfectly.

Kids prefer PCs for some reason. Keyboard mouse offers some extra precision in Roblox/Minecraft etc. Plethora of reasons.

I have seen my relatives play shit out of those on their office laptops. They don't necessarily ask for specs like a gaming pc.

A 7800X3D seems a bit overkill paired with a 5070*. But I guess it means it can last way longer with a few GPU upgrade cycles.
The CPU cooler looks like an odd choice to me, but not terrible given that it is a pre-built. The Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 / SE is around the same price in my region and is a dual tower cooler.

*I'm saying that based on this results from tests with the 9800XD (not 7800X3D) and 7600X.

Don't underestimate kids these days, they grow faster and become aware of things sooner than you may think. But it's his 1st rig and remember it'll mean a lot to him as he grow up just because it's a PC and not because of it's specs.

It's more than enough. My son is 12 and the only games he still plays on pc is roblox, minecraft and fortnite. He'll play sports games on console though for whatever reason. He's running a laptop with a 3070. he doesnt even know what fps and rez is. He does put mouse sensitivity to the max though.

5070 12gb is a shit card

The 18gb super will come out in a few months

But honestly 5060 Ti 16gb is more than enough for a kid

my advice would be to not get an expensive piece of hardware for a 10 year old, when he's probably only going to play shit like fortnite that runs at 60+ fps on ancient hardware like an i5 4670k

Over €1500 for a birthday present.

I wish I had you as a dad lol

There's still time for him to be your daddy

as always with prebuilds, the CPU is overkill. a Ryzen 5 is more than enough for gaming.

but overall seems like a decent price.

as for the GPU, yes 12GB isn't ideal, but unless he's trying to play path traced games, 12GB will be more than fine for a while.
and the rest of the system is good enough that if you ever wanna upgrade it, you'll just have to get a new GPU.

that CPU will probably still be fine in 10+ years for example.

IMO, go for AMD 9060XT 16GB or Nvidia 5060 TI 16GB. You don't need a 7800x3D either with that GPU so 7700 or 9700 would be fine.

Your 10 year old doesn't need the 5070 and having more VRAM is always good.

I may sound weird, but get him a more underspecced pc. This way he will play lots and lots of games just not at the highest fidelity and he will also LOVE the next pc in 3-4-5 years time when he feels the upgrade.
And you will also save lots of money.
Dont forget he is 10, he probably cant tell the difference 30 to 60 fps right now, he also ma y not able to recognize anti-aliasing or not etc etc

I know you're asking for a PC, but is there a reason not to get him a gaming console?
Speaking for my kids, who are a little bit older than OP's, most of what they want to play is Minecraft and Roblox. It's not gaming as we know it, but a weird social/streaming/gaming mix that no console is really meeting the needs of right now.

OP that should easily meet their needs for a long time. As other have noted, if you can find one with 16GB of vRAM, you should be pretty much covered for being able to play everything from the PS6 generation. Should see the young man into adulthood.

He is 10… Should I switch to AMD? I mean 5080/5090 seems like a overkill
With the prevalence of handheld pc's and considering a very large portion of the pc gaming market is comprised of laptops with 8gb of VRAM, 12gb will get your son by for quite awhile. Developers will be building their games with this target hardware in mind. Just tell them to stick to 1080p gaming, and this PC will last them for a few years at minimum. There will be a few games that give him trouble, but that is the exception and not the rule.

5070ti or 9070XT if it can't wait, 5070ti super if it can.

It is overpriced and pairing a mid range GPU with a high end CPU is silly. If you intend to use wifi on it you will likely need a USB wifi card or internal wifi card because the motherboard one is crap.

If you have no desire to build a PC or upgrade/repair it in the future you might as well get him a gaming laptop as it's components will be less likely to fail than a pre-build with cut corners.

Also, I am pretty sure it is only a tower so you will need a monitor/tv and speakers to hook up.

huh? Way easier to upgrade a GPU. 7800 3d should be around through next gen, OP can always upgrade GPU down the line, its already got a good PSU wattage.

huh? Your talking about putting all the components in a much smaller space and if one part goes its pretty much all gone.

Great CPU in fact it's only the second fastest gaming CPU in the planet right now. GPU is very good for 1440p only downside is it has 12GB of ram so some games at 1440p max settings may run out of VRAM resulting in stutters or a game crash. Solution is to either drop down to 1080p max settings which this card is excellent for, drop the offending settings down to a reasonable level (drop from max to medium) or buy a GPU with more memory.

Since you don't know much about PC gaming know this PC is worlds apart from a PS5 and PS5 Pro in CPU performance (might be so fast even the PS6 CPU can't outperform it). As for GPU the 5060ti beats the PS5 Pro and the 5070 is 35% faster, it's certainly a monster PC that will be able to run even PS6 games fine enough, only weakness is the 12GB of VRAM but years down the line you can always swap the GPU for a better one if it becomes a problem.

No don't switch to AMD. Nvidia is best specially for people new to PCs. Only option for you is to upgrade to a 5070ti which has 16gb but is more expensive (not worth it for a kid just starting out) or wait for the the 5070 Super which has 18GB of memory but comes out late this year or early next.

Imo just buy this, your kid is 10, a 5070 is a God tier GPU for what a 10 year old is playing. Years down the line you can upgrade to a 6070 or 7070 if you have a need for it but for now everything is great. Even better if he plays on a 1080p monitor instead of 1440p or 4k.

I know you're asking for a PC, but is there a reason not to get him a gaming console?
Kids these days want to game on phones/tablets and if they really get into gaming by watching YouTubers and streamers they'll want to upgrade to PC because 1) thats what streamers prefer to play on 2) kids view gaming PCs as the hotrods/super cars of gaming which they technically are 3) PC is where all those unique games streamers YouTubers play are (typically can't play the latest Steam content creator fad on phones) 4) PC is where all the crazy game shit happens because of mods (think Minecraft modd)

Basically PC does everything so it's seen as a super phone/tablet you can do all the cool stuff YouTubers do
