Have PC power supply units changed over the last decade? Can I use my 7 year old high end PSU for a new build?

I have a really nice evga Platinum 1000 W psu I got in 2018, I wanted to know if any connectors have changed on the PSU side the way they have on the GPU side. Does nVidia provide the necessary cables/ adapters?

Should be fine, but just make sure you count the connections you might need ahead of time. GPU will use 2 with the adapter, some mobos use a optional 2nd, etc.

Yeah you can do so, but if you are building a new high end rig you might want to upgrade to something brand new. I grabbed a SuperFlower 1000w that is going to be with me for the long haul, replacing my prev SuperFlower built EVGA from like 2014. So long as you don't have any defects, thing will last a decade at least.

ATX 3.0 and 3.1 specs require a different connector for the video card

ATX 3.0 implemented the now infamous 12VHPWR connector

ATX 3.1 "fixed" that connector with the 12V-2x6 connector spec

If you are going to buy a modern video card for your new build, you will want a new PSU which implements the new connector. I recommend getting one that is ATX 3.1 compliant so you don't have to deal with the bad ATX 3.0 connector design

I'm going through this right now trying to get my machine ready to upgrade a 3090 to a 5090 due to recent price drops and MSRP availability on 5090. That's how I found out about all this

Don't the 5000 series cards use 12VHPWR connectors? I heard the 5090s were melting those connectors
