Advice: New PC for my son’s 10th birthday

Trying to imagine the reaction if I as a a 10 year old told my dad I needed a 1500EUR PC for my birthday as the PS5 isn't enough...

Tom And Jerry Reaction GIF

Even more expensive than asking for a NeoGeo in 1990, which to like 99.99% of 90's 10yo's was as unfathomable as being Ritchie Rich and winning a Toy R Us Super Toy Run.

Guys,

  1. A quick question for the PC pros. How easy is it to install a retro emulator (NES, SNES, N64, SEGA, Dreamcast, GC, PS1, PS2)? Is there one emulator where all the mentioned consoles are playable? I just want to introduce my son to all the classics also :)
  2. Is it easy to install a mod on GTA5? Or any other game?

Any other tips regarding new PC player? Steam tips? Epic Store tips?

NES, SNES, N64 are all basically downloading the emulator and firing up a game, for PS2 you need a bios file you put into the folder of your emulator. I don't know if there is an all in one emulator.
Yes, There is RetroArch for different systems but i would still get a dedicated emulator for each system. But thats just me.

I gave him mine PS5 when I bought a Pro but he wants a gaming PC (dont know why)
My kid said that once, he said it was so he could play keyboard/mouse so I hooked up a keyboard and mouse to his PS5 and let him try it, he hated at and hasn't asked again since.

It's probably either that or he wants to be able to run Macros on roblox.i just used an old MacBook for that with Bootcamp so he can do that if he needs.

There is no ease answer for those.

Every emulator has its own settings that you often have to set to get the best experience. Retroarch is only useful to have several emulators in one place, but its settings can be more complicated than each individual emulator. I would recommend you to get the individual emulators one by one as you want to play the games.

For mods, it is entirely dependent on the mod, but usually there is a "how to install" for every mod.

Epic free games change weekly on Thursday at 11am EST unless it's during a sale when they could change daily. https://store.epicgames.com/en-US/free-games

If you have Amazon Prime, games are given away that activate through Amazon, Epic, and GOG. You keep these games even if your Prime subscription ends. Check at least monthly, but new ones can be added weekly, but it's not a set schedule. https://gaming.amazon.com/home

Keep an eye on the Monthly Choice, as well as normal Humble Bundles. GOG is also starting to do bundles, and Green Man Gaming as well. Fanatical also has crazy pick and choose bundles that occasionally have recent games down to $7.50 or less that haven't dropped before $15-20 elsewhere. Also check current and historic prices, and setup price watches to save money. I prefer using https://gg.deals/

Easiest first time emulation is RetroArch installed directly through Steam. It has support for Remote Play Together so your son could play multiplayer retro games with friends easily. The remote player is only streaming the game, and the client can capture controls so there aren't weird networking desyncs.

Mods depend on the game. If the game has Steam Workshop support, it's just selecting the mod within Steam just like you would a DLC for a game. Otherwise there might be a mod manager for the game. Or it could be manually configuring things.

Much appreciated

Also: where do you put the code in when you claim a game on Amazon Prime?
