Here's a spoiler for ya:

The FF7 prequel shit (Before Crisis is it? I don't keep up) will take place long before the FF7 events, but will bring you close to the point of FF7 in the ending.

The FF7 remake (Yes, it's happening) will have the same FF7 storyline, but if you re-play it after beating it, AND have a completed save file from Before Crisis, you'll get a slightly different story line, and you'll be able to save Aeris. The kicker is

you'll get to save her from Sephiroth, but she dies near the very end - I'm not sure in what manner yet, but it'll make the fans cry ALL over again. TOTAL mind fuck.

Yeah, it pretty much was argued for over half a decade what happened, so finally we have Advent Children which is pretty much an movie ending to FF7.

The defeat of Sephiroth summoned Holy, which in turn tried to fight off the meteor but it wasn't enough. Supposedly, Aeris prayed to the planet which let a gush of lifestream energy come out and detour Meteor's path.

I think the "real" Holy was actually what happened at the end thanks to Aeris's prayers.
I remember the old geezer in Canyon telling us that when this Holy will be cast, it's like a "reset" on the planet and every that is having "bad" in it will die.
The way i see the end is that Holy is casted, everything that is bad dies and returns to the lifestream, including us, the meteor, etc.

i bought it today for my list of "games everyone likes that i've yet to play". i've played one final fantasy game before, and that was chronicles. i tend to stay away from spoilers. i also bought god of war, mgs3, tons of sony games. oh yeah, and windwaker.
