After using the Switch 2 for a week I'm glad I have a Steam Deck

When I said "many" I was specifically talking about you, thanks for clearing things up.

I know 'most' PC gamers play Fortnite, Roblox etc and thus dont give a fuck but the Steam Deck is a premium handheld for enthusiast gamers so I dont believe your statement. They buy one so they can play Switch games at higher framerates lol.

Agreed OP. I think the S2s screen is fine. But holding it for the first time yesterday and playing for a couple minutes was a real surprise. I didn't think they'd manage to make it even less comfortable than the first Switch, which was horrible already. Deck is much better ergonomically.

After playing Switch 2 for a week it made me realize how great the Steam Deck is.

On the hardware side, the OLED screen Steam Deck pummels the Switch 2. I remember hearing in previews that the Switch 2 screen was great but I strongly disagree with that due to noticeable ghosting and washed out picture. I like the concept of Joy Cons (the way they attach magnetically is awesome), but they are still uncomfortable to use and the lack of dpad makes some games unplayable IMO. I refuse to use the analog stick for 2D games like a filthy casual. The Steam Deck is just so much more comfortable to hold.

On the software side its usual woes of console gaming. Yes, the Switch has an amazing catalog of games. Unfortunately many of them are handicapped with crappy settings that require a developer to update. That means we're left to beg online and wonder if/when a patch will come for these games. All so they don't look like ass.

Take Dave the Diver for example, great game... locked at 30fps until the dev updates it. People are left to beg for a patch. Now do that with the majority of your Switch library. Disgusting.

I dunno man. I won't call it buyers remorse but I'm feeling a little unenthused. Anyone with me?
The ergonomics of Switch 2 are absolute ass. The Switch was bad but the S2 is heavier, larger and still has the same short ass joysticks and no grips. I tried playing MH Rise on S2, it looks really bad, worse that S1 because of the larger screen, also 30 fps. The lack of control due to the shorter sticks was palpable my hands started cramping after half an hour and I went straight back to the Deck, 60 fps, comfortable, 4 back buttons. Yes, the S2 is better hardware wise, but until the patches come through and somebody makes adult hand sized joycons with proper joysticks it will be an inferior portable experience IMO.
MK World local multiplayer is fun and it is great that older controllers work on the Switch 2. So, its not all bad and I do not regret my purchase as my S1 seems to be on its last legs.

if you dont care about resolution and just want a perfect gameplay experience. the GameCube mod scene is crazy simple these days. You can get one pretty cheap as well off ebay.
It may be sacrilege but I much prefer the Wii U version. The Wind Waker is my favorite Zelda game and similar to how I feel about Personal 4 (favorite game of all time) the updated version is superior for me.

The controls feel better to me by a lot (partially being made for a modern controller but also even just down to how Link feels to move not being based around a gated stick) and then you have the faster sailing and much improved triforce hunt. The only thing I don't like about HD is the changed lighting but CEMU lets you put it back to the GC lighting.

I know I'm in the minority though.

We got another vegan over here!

Another thread where Steam Deck owners let everybody know how much better it is then everything else.

I've been waiting for this. I missed the other 10,000 threads.

Just wait for the Windows handhelds guys to come in and tell yo how much their Ally X is even better because it can run all Windows games and better performance

I rarely see these guys on Neogaf. All those Asus and Lenovo owners have sunk into the background pages deep.
Got a few threads on the upcoming ROG with a trapazoid Xbox button.

There is no other way to play an increasing amount of new releases on the deck other than at 30fps. Do you really want me to prove to you that people play new AAA releases on the deck? You never seen someone or GAF mentioning playing a new game on the deck or ask for support? Have you never seen any of the YouTube channels dedicated to ideal settings for playable games on the deck? It's such an odd thing to ask for proof.

still, knock yourself out

Ideal settings start at a minimum of 60fps. If that means I cant play certain games so be it. I'll just boot up my desktop.

The only thing that makes the Steam Deck better for me is library and not having to wait for switch 2 updates for existing games. When the indies start pouring in on Switch 2, it'll be a better place to play the games.

As someone that is interested in a Steam Deck (Im waiting on the next iteration) - aside from both being handheld to an extent, i dont even compare them.
Switch is for Nintendo first party and thats it. Its not tip of the spear and it plays their games exceptionally. I also prefer it docked. Additionally, we know a future version will add the OLED and all that - The deck didnt start with one either and its a great way to get people to double dip.

Guess it depends on what your needs are.

The Steam Deck is not a competitor for the Switch 2.... The Switch 2 will surpass the Steam deck's worldwide sales in around a month at this rate. Buy both would be my my advice as you can have access to Nintendo's first party games and the joys of steam... and mod's etc...

My only issue with the deck is it looks like it was designed with no thought to aesthetics whatsoever.

Got a few threads on the upcoming ROG with a trapazoid Xbox button.

Just have to follow switch 2 threads and they're there

The dozens of them somehow can't stay in their respective hardware threads, they have to spread the good message just how better it is. Have you heard about our lord and saviour ROG ally X? It can clock higher! Why didn't Nintendo make it 3 times thicker like our little engineering marvel chocking on LPDDR5x and costing nearly double?

The aged old console vs pc argument.

I agree op. Its nice to be able to tweak the settings to what you desire.

I've been lucky with my switch 2 as I only use it for exclusives.

Bro I am a PC first player and have been for decades but I don't think I have ever seen a group of fanboys as fucking annoying as Steam Deck fanboys have been these last few months

Switch 2 launch line up is bizarre.

Not sure if calling it a lineup makes sense when its practically just 1 game.

Never seen a console launch like this.
PS5 launch lineup was ass. Demon Souls was the only great title.
PS4 launch lineup was ass. ResoGun was the only great title.
PS3 launch lineup was ass. I didn't like any of the games.
PS2 also ass, although SSX was a banger.

Switch 2 is comparably fine, with Mario Kart, Street Fighter VI, Cyberpunk, and great backward compatibility (like PS5)

Nah, I have a Steam Deck OLED and it makes me glad I have a Switch 2. OS is much easier to use and less glitchy, games just work as intended without messing around in settings, and the higher resolution screen looks much better despite being 'just' LCD. I also like the controllers better and it's easier to play on my TV.

Steam Deck was great for checking out a bunch of demoes though (of games I will buy on my Switch 2).

It won't even probably take 2 weeks let alone a month. The Steam Deck had sold an estimated 3.7-4 million in February. Switch 2 sold 75% of the Steam Deck's lifetime sales in a matter of a couple days.

Why should anyone care??

Maybe because grip/controls are king and not beauty.
At least the Steam Deck looks better then all of the other gaudy ass PC handhelds. I think my SD OLED looks pretty good though I have issues with the ergonomics (I don't like the button/stick locations very much and I hate the vertically aligned grips though that can be fixed with grips. I also just think it's too big overall which is an issue all of the new handhelds have including SW2 unfortunately). I like that the SD is understated looks wise.

the bc stuff alone makes switch 2 worth it imo

I mean, I think retrocompatibility is just a nice plus. You're really stretching it.
You're supposed to play SW2 for the games that are coming in the next 6,7 years... are you seriously commenting the software of a console that just launched?

All reports from what I've seen even suggest that the games available on SW2 also perform better there than on the Deck, so... wtf ?

Like, the thread literally makes zero sense. The point of the Steam Deck should be because of it's library. The Switch 2 will have a completely different one so you need to be interested into that.

Do I care for the amount of Deck's sold?? How?? Will it selling more or less change it's features for me??
You do seem to care to be honest. But it's all up to you at the end of the day. The Switch 2 is a mass market device the Deck is very niche. So I guess why should any of the mass market care in the slightest if a few people prefer the deck...

You are talking to people who were hurt by the Vita and PSVR2 flopping and support drying up in short order. They don't understand that Valve could stop updating it right now and it would still get a ton of games that work fine without the devs lifting a finger.

So Steam deck is better because you have the privilege of tweaking games instead of them being intentionally optimized by the developers? And because Switch 1 games require patches for games with capped framerates it's "worse"?

BC on Switch 2 is amazing and all sure but I'm more interested in the New games coming out either Exclusively on Switch 2 or ONLY on Switch 2 and not Switch 1...and it's those games that Steam deck won't have shit on. A year from now this whole Steam deck vs Switch 2 thing will be moot.

Steam Deck's lifetime sales are 3.9 million, Switch 2 sold 3.5 million in four days

I think it's already outsold the Steam Deck

If you want to get a PC, get a PC.

If you want a launch console, with all it entails, including flawed BC and a small software library, get a launch console.

This isn't that complicated.

Or want a launch console with Nintendo's biggest selling franchise on day one... Get a Switch 2..

How what other people care/want affects a product I or OP wants??

Technically the more something sells, the bigger the ecosystem of first and third party fixes and features for it will be

It's why Switch gets so many accessories and controllers made for it, and Steam Deck has fewer options comparatively speaking

Fam you really thought you had something, but it is what the Pc people have been talking about everyday minute of everyday since forever

Your agenda on here is very obvious. You simply do not like the Switch 2. No biggie just continue to enjoy your steam brick.. ;)

GameBoy Advance had a backlight and improved color palette on GB and GBC titles.
PS2 could optionally cut loading in half and improve textures on PS1 games.
A modded Wii could force GameCube games to run in crisp 480p instead of blurry 480i. (It could even cut loading in half if the games were backed up to a hard drive or SD card.)
PS3 upscaled PS2 games and had options for screen aspect ratio.
PS4 doesn't have any backwards compatibility with PS3 games.

Deck selling almost nothing compared to Switch 1 didn't forbid it to have gazillions of more games including Switch games and accessories too. Almost every USB stuff works on Deck so I doubt Switch has more accessories.

The Pro controller is great for docked mode. Not viable for handheld mode.

If I bought SF6 (or any fighter) on Switch 2 I'm immediately forced to play in docked mode because they're unplayable for me in handheld.

Nothing was made for Deck, is the point being made. You being able to repurpose things made for standard PCs via USB or translation layers doesn't make them for the Deck

It feels like you understand inherently the difference between a PC and a console, but are continuing this inane discussion for some reason regardless
