Is the switch 2 ssd a bad joke?

I thought the switch gping with an ssd was kind of a big deal and i guess it is since a hdd would be even slower. But if you didnt tell me it had an ssd i would never guess it, i'd probably bet money that it doesnt. Loadings are so painfully slow. Like animal crossing takes like a minute to open the game and then another minute to load your game when you press start. It's not any faster than any platform i ever owned that had just an hdd.

And then the internet tells me that oh animal crossing loads the whole island and if you have thousands of items it takes longer. Dude, i have a tent and a bed. Cant imagine how much slower it's gonna be later on, probably make a sandwich any time i start the game?

Animal crossing is a Switch 1 game to be fair. Watching a game comparison video between versions, it seems to indicate that loading into the game takes 17 seconds on switch 2 and then loading the save file takes around 10-15 seconds.

Possibly because it's a Switch 1 game?

Recently I started a new campaign on Sniper Elite 4 on the PS5. It's a PS4 game and the PS5 has an SSD, but the load times are painfully slow and no different to playing it on the PS4.

Even first gen, like really old SSD are still fast enough for modern games in general. It'd assume it's not the SSD, but, like so often, a lack of optimization on the developers part to fully utilize the hardware. Are the load times shitty even with the Switch 2 patch installed?

The real answer is if you are using a switch 1 cart that would not be using any ssd just the old much slower cart.

If you are not then you should only be getting a one time 17 second load.

The Switch 1 and Wii U also used an "SSD". Just because something is an SSD doesn't mean instantaneous loading.
If by SSD you mean specifically the type that is in the PS5 or your desktop computer, the Switch 2 doesn't use that.

I just timed it using the cartridge and the Switch 2 patch, and it was 34 seconds to load the game, 21 seconds to get off the start screen. Cartridges are slow.

It literally took one YouTube search to prove your entire OP's evidence/claim and premise is completely full of shit. Do some basic research next time.

I just dont understand what all the hype was about then when it was announced. Everyone was salivating at the switch having an ssd. When in reality it doesnt seem to make that much of a difference.

It wasnt meant as a literal statement. 20 seconds to load a game feels like a minute and my point still stands. I havent seen anything take that long in years.

And i mean just look at the guy in the video salivating saying oh my god look it only took 20 second to JUST OPEN the game. That's not impressive, might as well be an eternity.

You made a thread about the slow load times on Switch 2, throw out one piece of data that is completely wrong and then proceed to pretend Switch 2 isn't a clear upgrade over Switch 1 and things with an HDD.

I wasnt comparing it to the switch 1. That was only in your mind. In fact i said in the OP that it would be slower with hdd. All im saying is the switch 2 ssd is shit. Facts

GTA 5 on PS5 Pro takes 16 seconds.

An eternity. A travesty for $750.

16 seconds? PS5 Pro's nvme must be "shit. Facts."

I dont know anything about the PS5's nvme but i would expect gta 5 to take longer to load than animal crossing, and since it doesnt then yeah im gonna assume the ps5 nvme is way better than whatever the switch has.

Why? This isnt a new account.

According to Square they have to install the FF7 remake for the port to work instead of load off a cart (a likely story, I know). It wasn't on my radar but if anyone was salivating over it, probably game developers used to squeezing games into Switch 1

Load times these days is not necessarily because of the data transfer, it is because of decompression, it is a CPU problem, as we all know the Switch has a very old and bad CPU. If you don't rewrite and optimize for Switch 2 CPU you're not going to get the benefit of the better chip.

SSD can boost load times, but you need a separate patch from developers to fully utilize its capabilities.

All this thread does for me is remind me I get a new zen bridge right next to a waterfall in Animal Crossing today. And also my Pokémon center in Pokopia will be finished this afternoon. Yay!
