That's awesome. Good for them!
I finally broke down and pre-ordered it a little while ago, which is something I very rarely do, but the various YouTube videos completely sold me on the game. Actually, I've never even played an Age of Wonders title before, but this really gives the impression of being a labour of love. I hope I'm not fooling myself.
Are there any special pre order bonuses from anywhere or can I safely just wait for reviews before purchasing?
It's only 1.7GB from Steam (regular version). Why the big difference? You can now download it on GOG. (6,5 GB)
It said that for me when the window first popped up asking where I wanted to install it. Once the download started, it's 1.7GB.I have 2,9 Go to download on Steam.
Okay, what the heck is going on?

I have 2,9 Go to download on Steam - actually 1,7 Go now... huh?

Attempting to download the DD from GOG using their downloader results in "Unable to fetch data, try again later!"
Sorta wish I bought from Steam now.
((
It's working for me.
You do realize that this makes Notch your deity?I don't think I'm able to express just how much of my teenage years I wasted on the Age of Wonders games.
To have a third, after all this time, is nothing less than divine intervention.
Okay I figured out how to fix the fetching problem - go to Support > Age of Wonders 3 > Website issue: game not displayed on my account and refresh your game list from there. Solved the issue perfectly. Should also solve "game not listed in account" problems.
I guess the problem for me was that my games list linked to the AoW3 preorder instead of AoW3 itself. Once it refreshed the game was listed in my account and I can download it normally.
Hooray!
Oh, that fix totally worked. Downloading now.
Hopefully, I'll like this kind of game. Can't even remember the last time I tried a new genre of game.
Edit: And... installed. Guess I'll check it out after I grab lunch.
I can't believe you never played this type of game. It's my favorite genre. You have a wealth of amazing games just waiting to be discovered.
I just finished installing and took a quick peek at the game. I can tell I'm in for a great time already, and I can't wait to dive into it more later on. I am puzzled by the performance though. Tactical combat was a smooth 60 fps, but scrolling the world map is very choppy, and I'm running a GTX 670. I'll have to play with the settings a bit I guess.

Ergh. The game doesn't like resolutions higher than 1080p. You get black boxes and blurred text. >.>
Sigh, was interested in the limited edition, then saw that Steam is a requirement and DLC is possible. Totally ruined it for me. Is it really that hard to release a normal retail copy without that garbage?
Steam is not required. You can buy this on GOG.
Regarding the game, I didn't know they reduced the Army limit from 8 to 6. I kind of liked bigger armies. Looks like that number is fixed too and not able to be expanded via research, etc.

He is talking about the retail limited edition in his country. All retail copies are Steamworks.
That's weak for a PC exclusive game. Particularly a strategy game. I'm sure they'll fix it though.Ergh. The game doesn't like resolutions higher than 1080p. You get black boxes and blurred text. >.>

Their office sucksYeah, they've said on the community forums that they're working on a patch. Apparently they don't have monitors of such a res in their office, and neither did their testers.
Downloaded and installed the game on Steam, playing right now. Is there any point in creating a Triumph account if you don't intend to play multiplayer? Right now I'm playing the game offline as a guest.
The game recommends playing as the Elven Council for first timers, which I am, and I'm pretty shocked with the amount of lore they have as a preamble to the actual game. I kind of expected it to be like Civ. just pick your leader/faction/race and go.
I think creating a Triumph account and linking it to your Steam account will be necessary for DLC later on, although I'm not sure. That and multiplayer, I suppose, from what I gather.

How does this work, exactly? If I have an adjacent stack of 6, can I bring them in a battle?
I attacked a castle, and in the pre-battle screen it looked like there were 12 slots for attackers, and 18 slots for defenders?
Unless, they change it in the patch, it doesn't seem to have proper UI scaling, no.I've been bugging the developers for screenshots higher than 1080p for a few weeks but I haven't seen anything. Maybe this is why.
JOKING. They were probably honest about not having higher resolution screens but it doesn't make me feel very good about the UI scaling situation. I'd really appreciate a gameplay screenshot once 2560x1600 is working properly.
