AIM alternatives?

I use Miranda IM, it's a lightweight (no bloat) multiple protocol messenger.

It's Plugin based and the user community there (tech support) is excellent. It's a bit overwhelming to configure and stuff at the beginning but it's worth it.

Its wayyyy too much work!! I mean, Its too plain looking, I couldnt figure out the skins and other junk
 
sort of on the subject....is there a way to get faster speeds between aim direct connect transfers???
