That'll be pretty impressive once they get the warp core installed.

But seriously, with the airlines in the shape they are now, who the hell is going to be buying these things (of course, I don't know how airlines are doing in other countries though).

Apparently orders are ahead of expectations. This thing is supposedly 20% cheaper per passenger and can go 5% further on a full tank than the 747. They're even talking about cheaper tickets for passengers. Though the initial purchase cost is, as you might imagine, fairly high.

Also, we already have a thread about this, which could have done with your pretty interior pictures :p

edit - according to airbus.com, 139 of them have been ordered thusfar from 14 customers (Quantas, Emirates, Virgin, Fedex, UPS among them)

AFAIK, American airlines were hit harder by 9/11 and the economic downturn. They might also be subscribing to Boeing's vision of many hubs.

$50/hour, but no kissing on the lips and colors must be pre-separated

Yes. They're going to fly over to Japan, fill the fuckers chock full of PSPs, fly back here, and advance American civilization as we know it.

If it catches on with customers, no doubt American airlines will pick them up. If, say, you could get a ticket to Europe on a european airline on one of these, with more amenities etc. for the same price or less as a 747 ticket on a US airline, which would you go for? They might be pushed to take the dive sooner or later..

Airbus does count American airlines among its general customers too - they may be cautious for now, but if it proves itself they may start to bite.

That said, airlines in Europe and Asia do seem a bit more long-haul orientated versus the US, and so this might suit them better.
