Finally finished it. I wanted to like it but couldnt. Gameplay is worse than the original. I dont mind a crazy story but I really wanted to punch Alan´s stupid face near the end. Sam Lake´s self righteous ass too. That white asshole line was completely out of nowhere. Unless the DLC is better I wont ever bother playing this again.

Well, shit 😁

BTW Beer, how many hours did it take you ? I've been reading that it's a long ass game clocking at more than 40hours ?

Cheers

In cinema checkpoints really suck, alrady rage quitted once. Change scene, walk fair amount of distance, listen to the fucking echo again, change scene, hope you dont get grabbed by teleporting enemies and get the light on which seems to be bugged. I don't even know when the next checkpoint is.
Ah god, the absolute worst.

Those Casey scenes were just awful, I had no idea what was going on.

Just finished the game. A very mixed bag, awesome atmosphere, combat was pretty fun, whacky in a good way in places.

But man, I have no idea what parts of it were about. Was getting lost on where to go all the time. Certain aspects of the story like the Casey echoes I just didn't care for. Saga's parts were definitely better than Wake's.

Definitely preferred the original.

Finally finished this having picked it up on sale with the 20% off + 33% off code. Would give it about an 8/10. Atmosphere and production was superb, but everything else was a mixed bag of highs and lows. As far as Remedy games go, definitely like Control more.

I just realised Lance Reddick was supposed to play Mr. Door. R.I.P.

Damn, that sucks. Lance would have surely been great in the role like he always does.

Still, David Harewood did a great job in the role.

Yeah he did a great job. I just read Lance Reddick played a key role in their old game Quantum Break.

MS own the rights to it so hopefully they port it to playstation.

Just platinumed this. What a game and looking forward to the expansions.

I preferred controlled slightly more but love the tie ins and definitely thought this was better then the original.

I agree with liking this over the original. Was mostly for the combat. Combat wasn't amazing in this one, but an improvement over the first.

Also had no idea Lance Reddick was supposed to be Mr. Door. David did great, but Lance would have been great as well.

Yeah they even gave an in memory of Lance Reddick at the end of the credits.

This was apparently a nod to Reddick's role in Quantum Break where he played a character named Martin Hatch. Notice the similarity in their names (Warlin Door). People speculate that this wasn't a coincidence

So anyone played Alan Wake 2 Night Springs yet? And if so is it better than the base game?
Short episodes with a completely different tone from the main game. They’re action packed, campy, you get tons of ammo, and just have fun with all the absolutely absurd tonal shifts. Yes, it’s better than the main game and all the main characters are interesting as opposed to bland-ish Saga. Alan Wake 2 should’ve been a Night Springs orgy.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Finished and 100%'d Night Springs.

What a fun little distraction. Not overly long, divided into 3 episodes and each one has a different character's focus and game play style.

I appreciate the ways you can connect each of them to the main game and Alan's story (or hell even Quantum Break).

Are the DLC worth playing for the story ?

They're really small, don't expect that much narrative. You can easily beat all 3 in like 2~3 hours. They're like 'what if' scenarios that can also conceivably connect to the main lore and its multi-versal nature.

I think I made a big mistake by starting this game when I'm alone. I can't believe some people are calling this a walking simulator and criticizing it. You have to walk a lot, that's true, but it's hard to do it without shitting your pants. Also, I can't say it has less action than games like Resident Evil and Silent Hill. The enemy variety seems low for now, but I'm only 5 hours in; it might change later on. For now, I'm playing in half-hour intervals because I can't handle this much tension. It's a great game; don't listen to the naysayers.

The enemy variety doesn't change, it remains basically the same. Considering the huge step in graphics and presentation Remedy made with this sequel I was a bit disappointed they didn't make a significant leap with combat too. They clearly did not focus on gameplay. Still a great game, though, and I'm so happy we finally got it.

So you do walk a lot but it has about the same "action" as Resident Evil? You clearly haven't played Resident Evil 4. And no, listen to us naysayers- the game is over rated and is far from great. It is boring trash disguised as a David Lynch wanna be game.

my main issue with it is that i think it's fundamentally an alan wake wannabe game...

I had Resident Evil 2 on my mind when I said that. RE 1 and 3 also seem to have a similar structure, so when I think of RE, those are the first games that come to my mind.

I've played RE 4 back in the day, which was more like an action game, so it didn't quite give me the same level of tension as Alan Wake 2, RE 2 or Silent Hill(I can add Siren and Fatal Frame to this list).

Each to their own but I just found it to be a profound disappointment.

For me it has the right amount of action. I don't need constant shooting in these type of games. RE4 also has waaaay more action than RE1 and 2 (combined, probably), so I wouldn't count that either. There's a reason that RE4 back then was such a game changer and it wasn't the camera perspective alone. Back to Alan Wake: the first title was often critisized for its repetitive action and the amount of it. The sequel dialed back on it and leaned more into slow-paced, impactful combat. It's not mechanically better per se, so depending on your taste and preferences this is something you like or not. Personally, I really like it.

They've made an excellent game. It deserves the 10/10 scores it received. It was one of the best survival horror games I've ever played. I wish they would focus on this series instead of Control(which was 8/10 at best), but I guess that won't happen. Even though it slightly reduced my enjoyment, I had to tone down the jumpscare visuals and sound effects to avoid having a heart attack. I'm thankful they allowed us to adjust this.

Btw, I enjoyed playing as Saga Anderson more than Alan Wake.
