Wow, totally forgot about some great movie soundtracks from the early to mid-90's.

Spawn was a case where the soundtrack absolutely outshines the writing, acting and cinematography.

Yep awesome soundtrack. The Saint was another fantastic one.

OP had an album from 2000 so I'll add:

Gorillaz-Gorillaz (2001)

It's such a good album. It has so many different genres mashed up. I can't really think of an album that is similar to this so that's why I think it's still fresh today.

Yeah, I was going to put Hackers in there as well, before I realised it was basically (in essence) the same as the albums I'd already posted.

I'd argue that the Mortal Kombat movie soundtrack sounds somewhat timeless (with a few individual exceptions) but I haven't listened to it for yonks.

Great to see the hiphop albums posted but given how often the genre evolves I honestly cannot see how they can be still be considered fresh. It's a special genre that changes way too often. Lyrical Content/Context -wise; sure. Subject matters discussed in Public Enemy and Nas still sound fresh and relevant today. No denying that. But musical/production -wise? Come on. Illmatic and Fear of a Black Planet followed the musical trends of its time and edited their samples to suit it. Even today's rap flows are different to back then. Those albums would sound very dated if they were released today. Hiphop albums are difficult. Maybe a Deltron 3030 album would still sound fresh.

Anyway, my suggestions:-

and if I can get away with it given it dropped in 2001:-

Mr. Bungle - Mr. Bungle (1991)

Album still sounds pretty damn amazing.

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Californication (1999)

Another one that came to mind that I consider their best album, but then again I'm not a huge RHCP fan. Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magik could just as easily fit the criteria.

Depeche Mode - Violator (1990)

Easily their best album, and features some pretty amazing songs. It doesn't hold up as well as some others, but it still sounds pretty great.

You are not the only one!

I remember listening to it incessantly in college as well, and So Easy is an amazing song for sure. I think its hard to place a lot of electronic music, and this album in particular.

Would anyone consider Moon Safari by Air another timeless album? I remember when someone in French class introduced me to it. Thanks Martha! Need to get that on Vinyl.
Maybe a turntable too.

I'm gonna be one of the only weirdos with this opinion but I still absolutely love "Melody A.M." from beginning to end. It's one of the dozen or so albums that personifys my college years and because of that it'll always hold a special place in my heart.

It's on my shortlist of albums to track down if or when I ever decide to dip my toe into the vinyl pool.

Edit: The album is from 2001 so it's not quite two decades (a little under 16 years) old but dammit it's important to me so I'm using it anyway.

Silver Jews - American Water

A lyrical masterpiece from Dan Berman; some of the most infectious melodies you'll ever hear. Stephen Malkmus from Pavement lends a hand as well.

A criminally underrated album.

Here is "People" : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a5q0rupfENc

"the drums march along at the clip/ of an IV drip/ like sparks from a muffler dragged down the strip/ uh huh uh/ people always come around"

for fans of: Pavement, Elliott Smith, Destroyer, The Mountain Goats, jangly-guitar'ed indie rock,

Yankee Hotel Foxtrot and A Ghost Is Born are fantastic.

I fell off the Wilco train after Sky Blue Sky but I think Star Wars and Schmilco are two of their best albums, not up to the height of Ghost or Yankee but not that far off, I'd recommend them if you haven't heard them.
