Alex (DF) and Jez (Windows Central) point to a decline in engagement for Xbox-focused content in 2025

The console entry fee of $400 or so. It's why releasing games on PS5 and Nintendo unlocks a new audience to Microsoft (particularly in Eastern Europe and Japan), whilst the Steam push really doesn't.

Every platform that requires hardware (not cloud) has that "entry fee".

You are not going to force gamers to stop using Steam. It is the primary gaming platform on PC. This anti-Steam agenda (that Microsoft clearly does not share) is a waste of time.

The part in bold is what I don't get at all.

They've spent an entire gen touting how they had the cheapest access and the best sub service that saves you so much, and now they want to flip the switch and go completely premium like they are the Hermes of gaming.

Completely bonkers business plan transition that only distressed companies and brands attempt.
I still think there is a decent chance they pull the plug on "Magnus" before it comes out. It's such a stupid idea.

Because it's the lowest powered 9th gen console vs the second lowest powered 9th gen console? Series S was always going be the first reference point against Switch 2 ports.
Why though? Their audience aren't making the choice between buying on switch vs buying on series s. The real comparison would have been to other similar portable devices. Very few people are making a choice between a Series S and Switch 2. Very few people are even buying a Series S as a home console recently since sales collapsed. Who does that comparison/coverage benefit? Just compare to similar popular devices, the switch 2 ports hold up well to other portables too.

Yeah it's the Xbox stench

I have personally found some of DF latest takes real uncomfortable. The Metroid 4 review sounded like the guy was naked slapping his micro chunk while writing it. I couldn't finish the video it was written and spoke so pathetically.

As for Xbox, they seemed to simply switch from having fantastic exclusives to just wanting to be part of the water in the pond. They tried to reach everyone but fell into an isolated hole. Don Mattrick really fucked up the brand even before that. Then you have loud annoying "experts" and "journalists" who kinda make the non fanboy want the brand to fail just to see them get fired.

?

If one already has a PC, they can simply browse the MS Store to download the game, or use the cloud if their system does not meet the minimum requirements. Gamers who do not own or are priced out of a PC/good internet are reached through the console ports.

If one already had a console previously, they had to buy another console just for access to that game. There's no way to play Mario Kart World on your existing, capable device. You have to buy a Switch 2.

With Microsoft now able to reach the same audience as Sony, how does this meaningfully affect their profits?

You are oversimplifying. Not every PC is a gaming PC. Not every gaming PC is capable of playing the latest games. If I'm going to play on the cloud then I'll use GeForce Now as would most since it is the best service by far.

Local gaming will require periodic investment in hardware regardless so I really don't know what point you think you are making with any of this.

So you think Phil Spencer's spiel about play wherever you want is bullshit? You seem hellbent on drawing lines on where people should be able to play MS games.

The disdain for the Steam Deck (!!!?).

Finger off the pulse, no idea what drives the consumer, disrespecting a superb, competitive device with a passionate following.

Ignorance

Or do they?!

Just we wait for when the mutual Epic/MSFT PR ramps up about "30%," walled gardens (which MS started in the console business) and all other shills and fanatic tards get released into the ether.

So precious to see two of the biggest paid shills agreeing covering Xbox is losing them time and money.

Which we saw years ago. 🧐

Guess they've been dropped from Mark Eting payroll haha.

Wait till the nextbox(💀?) is about to come and the moneys flow for them to trumpet 🎺 🎺 🎺 🎺 the arrival of the Emperor.
