Alien Earth Open Spoiler Thread

The new series is out now, and rather than spoil or ruin the previous thread, I thought it best to move conversation from the non spoiler thread to somewhere else

So from this post onwards, there are going to be open spoilers & conversation about the show, you've been warned

Please don't spoil future episodes with random info from suspicious sources, keep it to what's been shown

I need a rewatch, but i thought both episodes were ok, lots of little nods to various films

Thought visually it looked spot on, both inside the Wey-Yu 65 year sci vessel, and on futuristic Earth before Earth goes to hell sometime in the future. Sounded good to me fx wise too. Writing/dialogue was ok-ish?

I'm already a bit annoyed with the background childish behaviour from the synthetics, but I assume the writers are trying to remind you that these are infact kids in adult bodies, not robots like Ash/David/Cole, but they need to tone it down now after episode 2 in my opinion

The trailers indicated there are 5 invasive/predatory species on board the Maginot and we've seen 3/4 of them, with a possible 5th being the Predator if the clicking of the mandibles are in fact from the predator...or am I miss remembering the 5 species thing

So far alien wise...

We've got the eyeball octopus that can reanimate a dead half eaten cat and was very interested in getting its tentacles on ginger synth (can't tell that it's not human like the xeno's can?) Why didn't it try the dead scientists body, or one of the 2 dead search&rescue guys?

We've got an centipede-leech bloodsack alien that drains all blood from victims, theres a few of these on the loose now - is that it, or do these turn into anything now they are full of blood?

The hanging plant like thing (or is this a second stage from another alien?) How did it get there, and what was it trying to do at the end? Get the synth to touch the flower end?

And what looks like a typical Xeno drone. It has a smooth head, no ridges, no colouration so not a warrior (at least not yet)
Unsure if it's just 1 or multiple (alien isolation style), but there's plenty of eggs and dead/discarded face huggers about, so potentially there's more out there, and possibly different castes/species

Some of the dead cryosleep people had holes in them, but not in the typical Xeno places, one looked like it was in the heart area rather than the chest? And the dead guy in the medlab that was cut open, pre chest explosion?

Interested in the Cyborg character, motivations, backstory, and both weapons he's used against the drone so far - the electro stunning gun thing? And the bio-body bag maker thing?

And Aliens can sense fear now? That's new to the franchise? Although I don't think it's ever been specified what they are attracted too. I always assumed it was a little bit like a shark, able to sense electro magnetic activity, hence always zoning in on the directions of humans no matter what

Who's the shadowy character in Yutani's room, thought it may be Weyland (Guy Pearce?)

Only genuinely daft thing in the 2 episodes was the blue laser from original Alien, covering the 5 eggs, where is it coming from? It's there for the sake of being there. Didn't belong in Romulus, definitely doesn't belong here

I don't like the "boy genius" but I don't think we're meant to

Is Timothy Olyphant a synth? A robot? We're told in the story that adults mind's don't transfer well to synth bodies, but he seems much more in control of this emotions than the kid synths, if he is a synth

Still fresh, but I will say this, the whole kids in adult bodies is gonna get tiresome real fast.

The alien design is a bit weird, just hope to the Almighty the Predator isn't part of this.

I think Wendy is able to understand the Xeno/s or something like that with how she hears higher frequencies.
Other than that it's alright, nothing wow, nothing crap, need to rewatch, I stayed up for this, it's pretty late.

Only thing that's crap is the music choice.

Rewatching episode 1, just some musings/ I'm being hyper picky here

First shot, 1st episode, giant ringed world with at least 2 moons, seems like the Maginot has been to either LV 426 or 223 if that's the same ringed planet, seems likely as a last stop before returning home

The hanging plant species seems to have been caught/stored like that rather than something else becoming that, but it's shown to be hanging in the container in ep1 right at the beginning, how did it get out, and how did it move?

What's with the creepy Mr Tang watching the girl cryosleep? Another robot/synth if he's out of sleep but watching over others? Responds in seconds to earth rather than months, robot like humour. Potential survivor? And why is the cyborg/Morrow the one ordering him about when he's not the captain. Second in command? He's Security officer.

"Coms are down"... and Morrow doesn't want it looked at, but we clearly see him communicating through 2 episodes with mother. He obviously has pre knowledge of at least the Xeno, how to deal with it/contain it (as shown in ep2), and/or the over all mission too. Also asks where the leader of Prodigy is? Why would he be there?

Why are the kids holding flowers when being transfered into synth bodies?

Why would search and rescue need so many assault weapons, and only 1 medic to a science vessel crash in a civ population centre?

Morrow directs his message to weyland hq specifically, not wey-yu, maybe the 2 firms are still distrustful of each other, newly formed? Explains again why Yutani talks to the Prodigy owner, not both or lawyers

Sperm is a funny word 🙄 deffo need to turn down the kid angle in future episodes. The kids were 11/12 weren't they? Why are they acting like 6 years old with fart noises and pew pew sounds?

As noticed by Alex in a post above, it's mentioned wendy can hear above the usual human range during the test, 75 thousand hertz (humans can hear upto 20 thousand apparently), she can also, from distance, move and change electronic panels, TV channels, security feeds, pausing live images, zoom in...

1 cryopod victim had an intestinal wound? Lower right, definitely not mid chest. 2nd close up looked top left wound, again, not mid chest

Joe/medic/brother mentions that the body/blood is at least 1 week old, so the alien(s) escaping is old news by the time the ship crash lands, but Marrow only contacts whomever via mother a minute or 2 before Earth re-entry? Timeline seems off too me

I like rock music, but still unsure that it fits the credit sequence, when there has been musical flourishes from various alien media in the episode, just use creepy alien music?

Episode 2 rewatch/being hyper picky

How would a Prodigy search and rescue medic know that a wey-yu medical code meant alien foreign body?

Wendy's secret is so secret she tells another child she doesn't know at all. Then that secret is shared immediately, and eventually to her brother. Writers couldn't figure out a decent way for the brother and sister to reconnect so had to force this story line

Wendy can hack robots via a tablet, unbeknownst to the multiple geniuses in the room, after watching her for however long, hacking TV feeds to watch her brother

I really like the design/use of the eye octopus alien. Hope we learn more about this species

What the hell is going on in the dinner party 😆

The Xeno drone has yet to try and single anyone out and capture them for the eggs/face huggers, at least on screen

Soldiers don't instantly ask what the fuck is in that massive sack that you're dragging through a crashed spaceship/building collapse area 🤣

I like Timothy Olyphants character

The baseball / flashbacks/talking about dad scene slows episode 2 down

Why does Wendy have a machete? No one else is armed from what I can see. Are any of the kids trained in how to use weapons or firearms?

The blue laser is still annoying me

Overall I liked the episodes, even after being super picky, they need to drop some things and hurry some things along though

I am loving this show so far and I haven't loved anything from the Alien franchise since the second film

I really like the introduction of these new "invasive" alien species, they all look interesting. I especially like how that eye octopus looks like, same with that blood tick thing. The blood tick sucking blood out of that guys neck and blood filling it up grossed me out. I wonder if it will transform into something else

So far the story is interesting and the action sequences are good. I'm liking body horror too

As for the kids in robot bodies, I'm fine with it so far but I can see certain characters getting on my nerves

I found the music choice at the end of the second episode to be odd despite being a huge fan of Tool

I hope this is more than one season

Hmm, i forgot this existed, will check later on
I'm super fine with spoilers, at least i won't dissapointed when i watch it later on

I enjoyed it as well. Plenty of Alien action, didn't hold back.

A few minor issues like i thought nobody at this time (up to Aliens in the timeline) believes in the existence of ET's or is this not cannon or did i miss something?

Looks like we'll get a nest of Aliens in the building/ship and possibly the Predator shows up presumably at some point?

I'm in.

I agree
They basically kill the kid and make a copy of the mind. But that makes them immortal! No they are dead, just a copy of their mind is still around.
The xeno doing a moonwalk to peer into the Mother server room window was unintentionally hilarious.
yeah that was a wtf

Sorry to disappoint but I'll bet my left nut the 5th species of alien is the Predator. I'm already missing my right one as well so I'm putting a lot on the line here.

On the subject of spoilers can we just stick to stuff that's aired in the show? Anything that anyone has read etc outside of it about future episodes etc can stay the fuck out?

Maybe add that to the OP FatallyYours FatallyYours if that's ok?

I've literally just edited my post to add this, and i agree. Needs to be toned down quickly from next episode
Yep and the whole thing how they're created and what Wendy can do I feel it's gonna open a can of plot holes.

I wish they would have focused instead on the rivalries between corporations with the Xeno caught in the middle, the Wendy big brother stuff is a bit melodramatic for me.
Anyway since it's a show I guess we need to wait till the end where we're definitely have a big ass cliffhanger seeing they want at least 3 seasons.

Bad news for me then, still clinging to a tiny bit of hope.

Yeah, i'd like it not to be in as well. Or even if they just don't reveal the 5th at all and it is the Predator but do a spin off show, or at least leave it till a much later season.

I have high hopes for this, but saving 2 franchises at the same time is an even bigger task.

I suspect that the Predator is the final unseen species, the pred noises from the trailers pretty much confirm it, though I'd be pleasantly surprised if it was another alien

Want me to put that we only discuss what's been aired, rather than possible wild speculation/theories?

Nah speculation is fine imo just on about spoilers people might have seen or read for future episodes.

Like if someone said now "yeah i saw in a review that the predator kill half the kids in the finale", or I read Sigourney Weavers beaver has an acting credit in episode 7. You get the idea.

Look I like the Predator, from my posts maybe it looks like I'm hating it, but no. I think it's cool like we had the AVP stuff, like an alternate universe, but the main timeline should keep the creatures separate.

Yeah, I'd be happy for more action/info from the new species than rely on an Alien v Predator showdown, but I'm soured on alien/pred films that I'm assuming that's where it'll end up

Xeno's get out of control, synths need help, team up with captured pred to deal with the various infestations?

Or they could go the Jurassic Park route, xeno taking the t-rex role, after deciding the new species are bigger threat to itself and nest than the childlike synths?

Id like to see Bangkok over run with Aliens and turned into a massive nest. Shit turns into an all out war.

Lets be honest its not that far off anyways.

It is called Alien Earth after all. Im just happy its not confined to a shitty island somewhere.

You know, it's funny how they said this show wants nothing from the prequels, but the theme is kinda similar.

With these kids transferred to synthetic bodies and the whole what it means to be human, this had some Prometheus/Covenant feelings.

I want to see what happens when the eyeball octopus controls a host with more brain power than a cat/how it breeds or spreads, can't be just that 1 can it?

And if the leech blood sack bugs turn into anything now they have filled up with blood

And what happens when you add a human to the hanging plant thing

Have all these different species growing out of control, so they have to racoon city that shit

I'd be happy to see most if not all of the characters and the city to end up dead or fucked if it actually has decent alien action. Don't hold back, kill off anything or anyone, keep us on our toes

This is supposed to be set right as the Nostromo sets off on its mission? Doesn't fit right now?

The events of Alien and Aliens don't seem to be worth the hassle as theres plenty of Aliens kicking around on earth right now lol.

Also they could have sent a few more marines in Aliens now they know how big a threat this shit really is.

Suppose they have a few seasons to figure it out.

Edit: Corrected my gay spelling of the Nostromo

First ep, when Morrow/cyborg goes into the Mother room, girl bangs on door to let her in, xeno kills her, then is a long weird shot of the xeno moonwalking past the door port hole, before getting into the room
that was the moonwalk? that looked typical xeno behaviour to me

we had the xeno trying to give lambert a hug in the original

It's set 20 years before Alien isn't it?
Ripley would be a teen at most?
Although time gets strange with the alien franchise when people are in cyro sleep & FTL travel for long periods of time, maybe Ripley is of age and out there somewhere?

She was meant to be back for Amanda's 11th birthday, and seemed late 20's/Early 30's in Alien

Just checked, officially born 2092
Alien Earth set in 2120
She's 28?
Fits

This is 2120, so 2 years prior to Alien events. We see at the beginning the Maginot ship leaving what I'm certain is LV 426.

So the events on Earth happen before Alien, but as the show goes on it may overlap some things, but Aliens is a little way to go, that's supposed to be in 2179.

This is why I hate prequels, it's confusing, it fucks with the timeline, introduces plot holes, instead of making something on its own.

question is , why is wendy mentally mature compared to the other man-children?
The other plot hole that they openly discus is that the company Prodigy is purposely coding the synths to go through a child/puberty stage...because why not?

Do they really want kids/teens running about in any situation like that? Turn off the emotion chips like Data in startrek Next Gen, or better yet, just have synths without the ill child backstory.

Though I suppose Human/Synth hybrid is Prodigy's thing
Normal synths are from Tyrell Company if we're going full on expanded universe

The alien design is a bit weird, just hope to the Almighty the Predator isn't part of this.

I think it will be.

They're merging both franchises again and we'll probably see a new AvP film soon. This series and the new Predator film might even build up to the new AvP film.

I'm pretty sure there is a skull from the Independence Day Aliens in the trailer for Badlands, so maybe AvP:ID 🤔

Yup, there is a harvester (ID4 alien name apparently) skull in there, so possibly a crossover at some stage or just an Easter egg for fans to pick up on? Who knows. That's how AvP started, and ID4 franchise needs a kick start after the terrible 2nd film

yeah its weird , more to come so we shall see.

Liking the show so far, the plotline with the kids being synths and being deployed in the field is odd. Why even have a plot like that? They should have written them as adults from the start.
The Xenomorph is brutal and they are not shy to show it, while the Xeno looks good for the most part it looks a bit too clean, like it just had a bath. It misses that slimy texture from the movies.

The suspension of disbelief is difficult, the technology is dumbfounding.
They can create androids, cyborgs, hybrids but still use real humans for deep space missions.
They have monochrome computers with gibberish keyboards and diodes everywhere on ship but use color touchscreens on earth.
It's 2120 and people are still listening to music from 2025 and watching Ice Age from 2002 (knowing the lines by heart).
They can't detect a crashing ship until the last seconds?
Military guys don't use coms when they all have mics?

And it's only the first episode.

Only seen episode one.

But this is ALIEN Power Rangers!

Elite Teen Robots called into save people in a disaster. White haired guru guides teens.

As I said, don't have a problem with AVP type stuff or dumb easter eggs, I can ignore those.
I just want my Alien, well, Alien. I may be wrong, but I don't remember any Predator easter eggs in Alien movies.

But if they're merging the two, so be it, I can ignore them or/and treat them as standalone/alternate whatever just like the rest of them after Aliens.

The suspension of disbelief is difficult, the technology is dumbfounding.
They can create androids, cyborgs, hybrids but still use real humans for deep space missions.
This isn't bad, for me the weird thing is the transference of human consciousness into synthetic bodies, I mean if they can do that, pretty much nothing is out of reach.
They can't detect a crashing ship until the last seconds?
This I had a problem with, this almost Romulus type dumb stuff here.

I thought it was solid all around. Like the weirdness associated with the synthetics and their billionaire "father."

Also that animated Predator series on Hulu is great, arguably better than this.

There was like... 5 episodes worth of stuff in the pilot.

Just a wild amount of exposition. Only 8 episodes per season is showing it's not enough.

The suspension of disbelief is difficult, the technology is dumbfounding.
Episode one is like a speedrun to set up the premise. IMO either give it time to breathe or don't explain anything at all. One episode, three different settings. Three different sets of characters. My little human brain can't handle it. I want slow build-up.
I dig the show, it's good, but modern editing is just awful.

The way I would have done it is:
Episode 1: Everything goes wrong at the spaceship and crew
Episode 2: Everything goes wrong with the spaceship salvage/rescue party
Episode 3: Teen robots go save the day

Same here

The Android Human stuff makes no sense. The Xeno killed everyone in seconds but against the paramedic guy it couldn't do shit lmao.

I've fast-forwarded through the episodes a couple of times and my rating for now is a 7.5

Minuses:
- The kids in synth bodies, understandable but very tiresome.
- Wendy+brother melodramatic subplot.
- Some illogical or dumb stuff like not noticing the ship crashing or the crew waking up from cryosleep as they depart the planet only for them to go to sleep shortly after and I think there are some more.
- music choices.
- Xeno design, too clean, plasticky.
- Boy Kavalier's feet.

Pluses:
- Atmosphere, vibe, sets reminiscent of Alien and great for continuity.
- The parts where the Xeno is hunting them and its given some sort of intelligence.
- Timothy Olyphant.

Neutral:
- Don't like how the Xeno is behaving more like in Alien 3, animal on all 4s than like the 1st one, it's much more menacing and eerie when on 2 feet, it's great vor visceral, slasher, but yeah.
- Wendy sensing, understanding the Xeno and/or other aliens and how she can hack stuff from a distance can introduce a whole lot of plot holes and inconsistencies.

I think I'm forgetting some more, but I'm sure I'll watch the episodes again before the next one.
