Alien Earth Open Spoiler Thread

Lovely lack of security at the end there. Wendy Big Shaqqin' the maths seeing a human lung in the lab whilst here brother had a transplant lol.

I'd have rather have seen more experiments or observations (as its the name of the episode) of the 5 species, which would have increased the tension, rather than the deflation we got with this hour long pile of shite

Seeing the species getting to understand their surroundings, learning how to use the experiments to thier advantage, slowly becoming smarter than the humans/synths holding them, showing the plant/fly species attacking/killing animals, setting up potential future scenarios and plot points....tension, suspense, horror

The major problem is that weve now spent 4 hours out of 8 in this world, we still don't know how 2 of the species work at all, there's far too many hero characters trying to get screen time, there is no tension at all and the writers have turned the show into One Tree Hill or The O.C rather than a SciFi Horror Action based on 40 years of Alien lore

This means that we have at least 1 more terrible episode to come as not every character is in one place still, no Aliens have escaped containment properly, everything is still under control. Its boring. Its slow. Its not Aliens. Its not even E.T or Close Encounters

The next episode needs to hit the road running, kill off all but 3 or 4 characters within the first 15 minutes, have cat and mouse games with the various Aliens, have native animal species being used by the Aliens to spawn some interesting cross breeds...basically anything that doesn't include sitting around and talking about baseball, chocolate or names for their babies for 55 minutes
Exactly, this is how I felt, especially after ep 4. Too much stuff, even the nr. of other aliens, it should have been 1 or 2 species max.

I mean, we have the 2 main plots, well, maybe 3 now with Wendy talking to the Xeno?? Then we have all the synth chidlren subplots and other characters.
And on top of all these we need to have scenes with Boy reading Peter Pan and useless scenes like with the female doctor and her husband.

The next episode is ship flashback prior to the crash, we may get some gory stuff and some sabotage, it may be the best episode.

She can hear the xeno talking (because reasons), so that makes her a queen? And now the newborn now likes to be petted. Don't you see It's a kitten and it loves its mummy. It's not a soulless, clinical killer after all!

They don't have security manning the lab where they're doing an experiment whose results are completely unknown, and to top that they just keep it in a glass case?

This show is utterly retarded and as an added bonus this episode was unbelievably boring. I expect the next one to be entertaining while still being a cheap photocopy of the first movie.

Was hoping Wendy would give the chestburster his iconic little hat

Alien Earth creators probably saw Jesse Eisenbergs Lex Luthor and thought: Hey lets make our Techbro even shittier

Not much of consequence happened in episode 4. Hopefully it was all setup for payoffs later.

The guy playing that Morrow fella is really believable, particularly in his facial expressions. I'd expect him to get more high-profile work after this.

Redhead girl is gonna infest herself with an alien, isn't she.

That goat scene was dope.

All I want is shit to start going down. We have four more episodes

Why do i watch this stuff... The only things i like is Tim Olyphant's character and the cyborg guy (Morrow), the best thing in this episode was the scene with the sheep, more of that and less fucking talking about shit we don't care about, and now she's talking to the fucking xenos, what's next ? Will she try to fuck it when it's grown up ?

Morrow and Kirsh are the best, I wish they had more screen time.

On the other side of the spectrum, don't like Hermit, Wendy's brother, it's like he's constantly on Xanax or something.

The most interesting thing so far in this Alien show isn't the Xeno, it's the eyeball creature, I'm absolutely baffled at that.

Almost like they had an idea for an original sci-fi show but nobody would fund it without a recognizable IP. So they shoehorned the Alien franchise into it.

I can't wait for the eyball to start wreaking havoc. I think it will be that thing and the alien controlled by the girl (which is dumb) that it all comes down to. Techbro is definitely going to die.

The other thing that bothered me in 4 is when the alien burst out of the glass. Lab is pretty weak security for the experiments they are doing.

It's been a long while since I've wanted a character to die as much as I want Boy CEO to die. He's awful in every aspect as a character.

They probably wanted to create a show called Eyelien, but it got morphed into this show.

I can't help but think now of Wendy as a pokemon trainer. I think she'll eventually tame the xenomorph and given the xeno has acid blood, maybe it's a poison type? Also, does this make her a bug trainer?

I think eye monster will infect another alien and it'll be Wendy and her pokemon against it.

Someone please make a meme of Wendy and her alien appearing in a random pokemon battle with Wendy saying "Wendy wants to battle!". lol

P.S. Given that the eye monster takes over the eye of the creature, I wonder how it'll do it with an alien. I mean, we know they can see, I just don't know where the eyes are. Is it like Orcas and their eyes are hidden?

Just caught up on the last three episodes. Dutch sarcastically comments, "Dis iz getting bettah by duh minnit."

I read a few earlier comments in regard to, "shows being designed to be talked-about on the internet - as opposed to being created with some kind of quality standard in mind," and, bravo to those commenters, because that's the only thing I can figure, here.

Kirsh is definitely amusing and Morrow seems like he actually has a purpose, but otherwise, this just gets more and more intelligence-insulting with each episode. My interest, at this point, reduces to: how goofy is this thing going to get? The train has derailed! Will it now explode? Please let it explode!

Oh, and whack-a-do redhead synth child - eagerly anticipating to see how that is going to play out. The "worst case, we killed six children" line from the impotent scientist guy was also pretty great.

Though: not my Alien. It's a show: I'm not actually upset. Yet, this is like when ED-209 malfunctioned and murdered an executive. "Dick, I'm very disappointed."

You described it very well. Usually this kind of stuff is done subtly, where the viewer can draw the connection as it's not overt. It makes it more satisfying as a story point, but the way it's done in AE becomes obnoxious and distracting.
The same with the eyeball alien, they could have showed us its intelligence by infecting a human and have it just simply talking, instead of Kirsh just telling us it's intelligent.
They probably wanted to create a show called Eyelien, but it got morphed into this show.
I would bet that at one time the show didn't contain any aliens at all.

I'm still onboard this crazy train, and although episodes three and four have dialled the overt eccentricities back somewhat disappointingly, it is still exquisitely poorly written. Like, they actually draw attention to how nonsensical the setup is -- yes, show, now you've had a scene highlighting how dangerous a child's temper would be if that child was practically indestructible with the strength of twenty men, it seems extra absurd that anyone would embark on such a project in the first place, let alone be as blasé about it as Prodigy. Alien Earth is narratively astounding: Bad decision after bad decision after bad decision, I adore it. TV that literally defies you to take it seriously. It is an esoteric study in the absurd, furnished by a bizarrely competent cast, all earnestly stage-dressed such that, when glimpsed, it looks momentarily authentic.

Worse than just the time considerations, the apparent abundance of alien life really undermines the universe presented in the first movie, where space was vast and cold and the abyss only reneged on mankind's isolation enough to introduce the ultimate predator. Now, apparently, we're just falling over exotic lifeforms because more is more and nobody in the history of entertainment ever demonstrated otherwise countless times.

And now the newborn now likes to be petted. Don't you see It's a kitten and it loves its mummy. It's not a soulless, clinical killer after all!
This whole section got me going. Wouldn't a creature like the xenomorph inevitably utilise pheromones (or equivalent) to distinguish between friend and enemy? There are species that bond through audio-visual stimulus, obviously, but that's very mammalian and the more mammalian you make something the less alien it is to us, the audience, so it is a perplexing choice considering the name of the franchise.

Showrunner Noah Hawley and actress Sydney Chandler talk about Wendy's connection with the Alien:

"I've just always been struck by this moment in James Cameron's film where Ripley has rescued Newt and they find themselves in the egg chamber. We meet the Queen and then all these drones come in and Ripley aims the flamethrower at the eggs. Then the queen somehow communicates to these drones to back off and they do. In that moment, you learn so much about these creatures."

"I mean, clearly it's a matriarchy, clearly there's a hive, clearly they're drones, and clearly they can communicate on some level. Is it a pheromone? Is it telepathy? Is it a language we can hear, etc…?"

"Nothing is accidental to a kid, right? You know, everything feels meaningful. There's a moment in the fourth hour where she's like, 'They chose me.' Right? Which is not true. Right? They didn't choose her. She just can hear them because of whatever hardware or software issue that she has."

"The other thing with children is they don't really assign… I mean, these are just animals to them, you know? So she she's looking at these creatures and she has empathy the same way that my daughter became a vegetarian when she was nine. Well, these creatures didn't ask to come here, and maybe they're frightened. You know, she says to her brother, 'This one, maybe this one could be good.' Right? And it seems like…. I don't know, 'your friend the shark,' but you can understand her impulse to try."

I said this over and over, space now and finding things in it is like searching and finding lost things in your backyard.

So GAF, is this worth watching?

So far so good.

They're clearly making some deviations from the movies as we know, I don't think this is gonna end with some kind of direct tie-in to the first film, but it's been a good show so far. Really high production values, like a proper big budget movie.

Where in the movie timeline is the show supposed to happen? I assumed it was after the first and maybe even, second film.

It's been a while since I watched Fargo the TV series. I remember thinking it was well made and written. But did characters in that make idiotic decisions? I know some in the movie did.

What I'm getting at is that maybe Noah Hawley learned he could lean on characters making dumb decisions to move a story forward from Fargo, but that doesn't translate as well to characters in the Alien universe.

So, she can hear them; they know she can hear them.

IF -- IF -- this is related to Prometheus/Covenant crap, do you think she's related to David's "queen" (Daniels)?
