Alien Earth Open Spoiler Thread

I guess you missed the part where Hudson was losing his shit because of everything that happened. It's called character. Something this show has little of. I can't believe you think the writing in the first two movies is just as bad as this dreck. Talk about a terrible opinion lmao

I guess you also miss where the new cloned AI's start having personality issues because they miss out on family growth?

But this is literarly better for you, "Yeaaah, maaaaaan, it is gaaaaaame over, gaaaaaaame over! Oh, and look, here is a little girl, hey Newt, come here!".

The writing in Alien and Aliens was also dogshit turd stuff. Remember the super truck robot walker loading scene? The super alien queen can breach the hull of a starship, but gets held in the claws of a walking loader?

I wish I could lol twice at your posts in this thread.

Wendy surely knew the xeno would kill everyone, yet she doesn't seem to care. Is that the response of a child? Unlikely. Is it the response of a childs memories inside an unfeeling machine? Perhaps, but we get SO LITTLE about that possibility it doesn't seem natural to Wendy as she just like the other emotional hybrids in most respects. Using the xeno to kill the Yutani troops makes more sense, though she didn't seem particularly scared so it again comes off as cold and callous murder rather than lashing out or a fear defense (versus the redhead who does seem to attack because she is threatened).

I am convinced that the final twist is that they're alien minds in human bodies.

On the topic of seeing the xenomorph in daylight I think that the show makes very little effort to make the settings right for this kind of story. An evening scene where we see the sister and brother trying to dramatically escape the island during a storm would have brought a lot more excitement than them calmly strolling through the island on a warm and sunny day. Then having the xeno appear from the shadows with rain dripping would have made it look a lot better and scary.

The creators of Jurassic Park understood how important the atmosphere is.

the xeno in daylight is right up there with the worst decisions this show has made. It looks absolutely awful. That entire episode played out like how a Predator remake would look if you got the props and sets from Temu.

What are you guys betting on for the finale?

I'm pretty sure Boy Kavalier is gonna get the eye-lien in his head, if not I'll be surprised.
What I wish is that Wendy gets chopped up by her "pet", in fact I wish this for all but Kirsh and Morrow.

What I think will happen most likely is she and her brother will make it. I'll be very surprised if not, and the show dares to display some of that xeno intelligence.

I don't know, since we never hear about Prodigy or the Xeno being known by humanity in the rest of the saga. I believe (and hope) that Yutani will nuke all evidence and wipe Prodigy off the map.

Yeah, I think Prodigy-boy will get what he deserves. I think Wendy will survive, but I honestly hope the brother dies one way or another. He's been annoying almost every episode.

Honestly, this show has been such a disjointed mess that I don't really long to see anything resolving. I barely understand what story it's trying to tell. There's no common thread, things just seem to happen randomly. Oh, redhead thinks she's pregnant, I wonder why? Never mind, let's just erase it. Kavalier wants his synths to become extremely intelligent so he can converse with them. Never mind, it doesn't actually matter to him if they all get destroyed and killed. Oh, the brunette synth has ambitions. Never mind she doesn't really. Captain Hook wants to sneakily manipulate Indian synth through several episodes. Never mind, he failed so let's just go in guns all blazin' like idiots.

Things just fizzle out so I lose interest in most plot points. In many ways Alien Earth reminds me of The Acolyte where I didn't really understand what the story was either.

Just caught up on these episodes and the show is so hit and miss. Anyone who says 'I dont like Prometheus or Covenant because the characters are dumb' but enjoys this needs a slap across the face. The characters in this are so one dimensional and prone to being almost offensively dumb.

Probly one of the things that annoys me most is that this is supposed to exist after Covenant but before Alien. Yet this damn Alien short of running main main street during a parade has been shown to nearly everyone, quite how it's 'unknown' at any point prior to the first Alien movie after this series is anyones guess at this point.

Further to that the whole specimens, it's become abundantly clear Yutani has no interest in any of the specimens beyond the Xenomorph. Ok, yes it's cool and all, but in terms of research;
-you have a tick that basically sprays what appears to be an anticoagulant so powerful it can kill anyone who inhales it.
-an eyeball / octopus with high intelligence that is able to create neuro pathways that take over it's host, I mean even outside of that, the fact it can 'create' neurological signal paths would be a boon for artificially create new pathways for say, people with severed spinals cords etc
-a create that can literally melt organic materials with ease (even before considering it actually manages to feed on said material and derive nutrients from it
-dunno what the plant does, but it probably makes you high as shit

But none of that seens to interest anyone beyond the Xeno because....reasons. Oh and we're gonna have a pack of dumb ass kids cosplaying as synths basically looking after containment. I mean the amount of times these things have escaped now is almost a joke.

Oh and the chest burster that just ran off into the bushes......on an island.....but don't worry, we're able to find the slippery little sucker amongst all of that jungle in the hour.

The sooner the brother who looks like an even more socially and intellectually challenged version of Al's kid from from Married with Childrens dies, the better. I can't even begin to understand the last confrontation on the boat, I mean the other dozen guards there for show or something, and then for reasons dickweed shoots the other synth knowing full well it'll shit off his sister who he seems hell bent on keeping happy but whatever.

Tbh I'm curious to see what happens with princess stick up her ass and her new pet. I mean she can talk to the Xeno, which I find odd because it's not like the Xeno was even around other Xenos to learn it's own language / calls, but hey, just throw it in with the myriad of other shit that makes no sense.

The whole fight was horrible choreographically and cinematographically. You barely saw what was going on. And Wendy seemingly having to exert herself fighting them made no sense. We have already seen her jump from a cliff 50 meters down to the sand as if she jumped one meter. We have seen her fighting a fully grown xeno with a paper cutter and defeating it. We have seen her lift four kids with outstretched arms as if they were feathers.

She should have been able to throw them off the ship with one hand and barely registering them.

My guess - The new alien is a queen and Wendy can't compete with that and she loses control. The eye alien takes over Eddie who beats kid genius to death with a frying pan for old times sake.
Morrow yells out "Floreat Etona!" before being killed by the Alien.
Kirsch escapes with the kids and sets them with new identities as a travelling Sting tribute band which help people in need in every new town they visit which was his plan all along.
Final song is the Littlest Hobo theme song.

I think prodigy will get his conversation with the eye before he dies. The show's been building up to it too much for it to not pay off.

Yeah, that's true. But realistically the discussion would go like this:

Prodigy boy: "Finally I can talk with an intelligence superior to everyone except me. Tell me what you think about life and the highest purpose is?"

Eyelien: "Survival and domination." °kills Prodigy boy°

If Eddie appears in a worn-out brown suit then this show completely redeems itself!

I've dropped this. I can't believe I fell for the "greatest alien piece after Aliens" bullshit. This show absolutely sucks ass.
The PR machine shits that line out every time they have a new entry in any long-running franchise.

Pretty sure I remember the same thing being said about Terminator Dark Fate :messenger_tears_of_joy:

The only thing I want to see tonight is a satisfying scene that reveals the Eye Alien's motivations. Maybe its motivations have been made obvious already, because the Eye Alien seems to look at any other species with outright hatred and contempt. It growls, attacks, and tries to kill any other human, synthetic, or xenomorph it encounters. It certainly seems to hate and wants to kill Boy Kavalier, not have a conversation. Maybe the Eye has a superiority complex, and views any other being the same way a hermit crab views a shell, as just mere housing. And it being captured and studied by such lowly beings was an afront to it.

However it plays out, I'm hoping for some memorable revelation, something more than a one-dimensional "to live is to kill and dominate" motivation.

Every single episode Dana Gonzalez has directed is Alien vs Predator tier direction wise or worse, the other ones are either good or great when Noah Hawley directs them. The former is so fucking dumb that he decided to shoot the escape in broad daylight... in a fucking Alien show

Please, for the love of God, someone fire him from the show. The last episode is directed by the idiot too, we're fucked

Episode 8 - 48 minutes of shite

They really shouldn't show this xeno in the light of day, its removed all horror from the creature. It also looks shite

The xeno even sounds like Jurassic Park raptors now too

It's bullet proof now!

They do have satellites! Weren't using them last episode though yeah? Fucking bollocks

Evacuated people, lol. Ran out of budget for extras did you show? 😆

Ginger synth is still alive. What a shame

What do ghosts do? ..... they get....busted! *queue ghostbusters theme music*

Christina Pratt's xeno-rapter speech can now cover the entire island from any location 🙄

Christina Pratt's computer hacking sometimes needs hand gestures, sometimes not

Thank god the mold spraying guy is still here, he's obviously a high priority to keep on the island during an alien crisis!

Fuck sakes, this is the final, you're wasting time with flashbacks on poorly written characters. Get. The. Fuck. On. With. It!!!

"no body touches my brother" claims Christina Pratt to an empty fucking room

Was that the plant that went scurrying quickly across the ceiling 🤣 looks shite!

Best part of the show - the adverts for Tron Ares and Predator Badlands every 15 minutes

Someone cleaned up the pile of sheep shit I see, without getting eyed in the face

Eyelien escapes room, travels across the island, to the beach, and happens upon a dead human body. Thank God it knew which direction to go, and can travel so quickly...weve seen dead Prodigy soldiers in various courtyards and around the compound, but nope, make a tiny octopus travel miles to find a body instead. Who is writing this bollocks?

Redshirts are gonna die I guess, no surprise there. Not even finally seeing the plant kill something this episode is interesting

Now Christina Pratt has 2 xeno-raptors. Cute!

Wait....THATS THE ENDING? 🤣🤣🤣

What a pile of wank

Still to many characters vying for screen time, and they've now brought back a "dead" character for shits and giggles?

Disappointing end, to a terrible show. The best episode was a rehash of Alien, which we saw 40 years ago. Trash writing, too many and mostly terrible characters, poor time management, destroys years of built up horror, suspense, intelligence, menace of the Xeno race, wasted money on unnecessary licensed music...

I score the episode a 2/10 and the Series as a whole a 3/10

Hopefully the next season gets cancelled before they waste too much time, effort and money on it

I am easily entertained but the best compliment I can give them is they made a very forgettable first season. I'm not sure I will notice if it does not get renewed for a second.

Why do the xenomorph keep dodging bullets so easily? they ruined the alien in an alien show, it looks like rubber, it moves like a guy in a suit and its used as a silly weapon for Wendy.

The fight between Joe and the eye alien was so weird looking.

The xeno heard Wendy clicking from her cell, while it was in the jungle.

The wacky electronic powers of Wendy ruins so much of the story, you can find 200 plotholes in this episode alone if you consider it.

No one died, everyone carries into season two. All the aliens escaped magically to be reused in season 2.

From 1 to 10, the first 5 episodes ranged from 4 to 8. The last three ranges from 1 to 4. It tanked it, and pretty much everyone gonna hate it now.

What a waste of potential. If they make another season, not sure if I'll bother watching it.

Five times, I rewound the part where the brother gets knocked out by the Boy Genius' Alfred, and the brother just kind of...falls over. For the life of me, it's not clear what hits him, and it makes me laugh. Like the running gag in The Simpsons when they can't help but accidentally kill the buffalo.

Not true! There was that one grunt chick who got gobbled by the Venus fly trap. She was integral to the plot and unforgettable. RIP.

And do they see the eye-alien escape the room? from their point of view, do they know it's gone? because if not, it makes no sense that they relaxed the way they did.

Series went off rails after the hybrids starting going crazy. This last episode was such a waste of time. This was not an ending. The last scene was basically just them announcing that the whole gang's getting back together for more adventures in season 2.

I've been a fan of the franchise since that first time I caught a glimpse of Gigers perfect organism as a kid. During my entire life the movie part of the Alien franchise has been more or less of mess. I got my hopes up when Ridley Scott announced he was to direct Prometheus, a film I considered a huge let down at the first viewing. I've since come to sort of accept it and Alien Covenant for what they are. They're about David, Jesus and black goo.

Then came Romulus, that somehow managed to sorta fuse bits and pieces from Prometheus and Alien in a way I found acceptable. The franchise is evidently back on track again, both commercially and my own head canon-wise.

Then there's this...
I've been up and down on this series with each episode. Some parts I really like (involving Weyland-Yutani in a more direct manner, nailing rhe retrofuturistism look, how it deals with artificial lifeforms and last but not least making even a single xenomorph deadly af) and sone parts are just a complete miss (yeah, one xenomorph is deadly af but it also like getting pets and they're fucking Jurassic World-raptor:ifying the Xenomorph!

Sorry, the scars from the last "modern writers/directors fucking up concept-of-peak-coolness-childhood-memory"-trauma haven't healed yet. That xeno better be tearing at least 2/3 the hybrid-children apart within 5 mins of season 2s first episode if they want to make the xenomorph interesting again.

Anyway, I'm a bit torn. It started really strong (it had fucking Stinkfist as the end credit song in the second episode, as a big fan of both Tool and Alien that shit almost felt uncanny) but the last 4 episodes it started to come apart very quickly. Some plot threads were sorta dropped mid season and the last episode left threads all over the place and resolved none.

Underwhelming finale.

Extremely. I understand that they want to keep things open-ended but god damn it at least give us something to chew on after all that build up. Feels like we're owed another episode, but nope, that's it. See you in two years.

Still, I've enjoyed the show. And we got some Pearl Jam which was nice.

This was not an ending. The last scene was basically just them announcing that the whole gang's getting back together for more adventures in season 2.

Pretty much.

I've seen someone on another forum describe this as a "trainwreck of a shitshow" that sums it up nicelly i think, haven't seen the last episode but after reading some people's thoughts here i should probably prepare myself for this shit...

For a show where so much happens, it's incredible how little actually happens.

Having seen the final episode I can finally say that this show was made by mostly incompetent people. I think the reason why they always have cool music in the end is because people would otherwise leave with a strong feeling of "this sucked and was very boring".

Not looking forward to the second season.

That felt more like a penultimate episode rather than a finale, no plot threads resolved and virtually every named character survived. Really felt like it was setting up Kavalier to be outsmarted by the eye monster, but that went nowhere. Wendy now has God powers (how does she communicate with the Alien when it's miles away, and why don't the other synths have these powers?) and is killing indiscriminately but seems like we're still supposed to sympathise with her.

Frustrating series overall, the good stuff was really good, but its weighed down by bad writing and plot armour.

That was so bad. No well-earned deaths, nothing resolved. The hybrids win and announce that now they rule, but Weyland-Yutani's coming to take control of the island, so the victorious party doesn't even get a victory. And the one thing I wanted to see was the Eye Alien take over a human and say something profound, and it never happened. At least it didn't die. The only interesting part was the Kirsh vs. Morrow fight.

I don't know if I've ever seen so much budget and effort on t.v. wasted on such an illogical and unsatisfying product. It's very frustrating, because it's incredibly difficult to pull off something of that scale. It was a unicorn t.v. event that was a dud.

Aliens had the marines travel across space on a multi-billion warship with nuclear missiles on board. Then the entire crew left that ship in orbit unmanned so they could travel to a hostile planet. They have an extra dropship but apparently having an extra pilot to fly it would be too much, along with having crew on their warship.
Then instead of regrouping and rearming with apropriate weapons the marines proceed in to an Alien nest armed literally with 'harsh language'.
Then in the middle of a full on cluster fuck massacre - the grizzled sergeant instead of taking charge is ponderously trying to get technical instructions on how to retreat.
Don't get me started on the marines - with technical plans in hand managing to miss the roof or how the Aliens kindly stop moving so Hicks can take a look.

If you want to find fault - Aliens is a terrible movie with some terrible writing. But it isnt a terrible movie because you just accept the giant holes in the plot because it makes the whole thing work and gives us great lines like the harsh language or 'all after incinerators' or the tension of Hicks looking up in to the ceiling and then the great firefight afterwards.
If i remember correctly the minimal crew was explained by the fact Weyland Wutani knew there was an alien on LV 242 and wanted to capture it the most discreetly possible.
A lot of the bad decisions of Aliens can be explained by the fact Burke actively works against everyone else to fulfill the corpo agenda.

no plot threads resolved and virtually every named character survived

Felt like the writers liked all their characters too much to actually kill any of them off. Which is fine if you're making a warm and fuzzy show like Stranger Things, because your audience will probably agree with you, but this is fucking Alien. People don't survive in this universe. They just don't. For a show which basically did almost nothing but set itself up for a huge payoff, the end result is one of the biggest cases of blue balls I've ever had watching TV.

Unless the second season has something spec-fucking-tacular up its sleeve which mandates the full cast being around to take part in it, Alien Earth has shaken quite a bit of the goodwill I lent it. Do we really want to see these guys surviving season after season, plot armoured out the ass so they can keep getting into weird new adventures, where Alien and Alien Jr only ever get to splat nameless army dudes? I sure don't.

For a finale it didn't finalize much. I think it gave a bigger open ending. Nothing really paid off and it was just more setup for the next season. I think there should have been some story lines clearly ended. Like Eyeball story never pays off.

I will watch more but at the rate TV is made these days I may move on.

The show is entertaining but we need better finales.

Another thing I'd forgotten about until I saw it mentioned elsewhere - what happened to those tick creatures? They made a big deal about them escaping on the ship, but are never seen again.
