Alien Isolation PC Performance thread

It is pretty bad. I tried downsampling along with the games AA and it made zero difference.
Same here. Even 1620p gives me shimmering on edges. It's weird, how bad it is.

Hopefully someone smarter than I can find a fix.

Man, I hate the CA, motion blur and film grain. Good job you can turn it off. Props to the devs. Not everyone includes those options.

Only issue with it is the aliasing which is pretty awful. It's everywhere and none of the in-game options help that much. Can't really downsample on a 660 either because it drops to around the 45ish mark which is too low.

Oh, and it seems there's a bit of mouse smoothing going on? It definitely feels off. Can't see any options for it though.

Anyone know if I can inject some AA with the control panel or something else entirely? Preferably something that isn't too power hungry.

Anyway, apart from that it runs flawlessly at 1080/60. Nice engine those guys have.

I'm using an i7 2600k oc to 3.5ghz, 8gb ram and a GTX 660.

It's so weird to look at the game with it's nice character models, great environments and great light effects and then around all this there is flickering like in a over 10 year old PS2 game. Okay maybe this is over the top, but it looks so strange with everything else looking fantastic.

Honestly game looks kinda bad at 75 FOV. Maybe because dafult FOV is very low (45)? I am playing with 60 value right now.

That's because it's vertical FOV and not horizontal FOV as in most games.
Look here for further information: http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Glossary:Field_of_view_(FOV)#Understanding_FOV

Also there is a calculator to get your right FOV. If you have a normal 16:9 , 1080p monitor you would normally use a horizontal FOV of 90, which is a vertical FOV of 59. So in AI you would go best with the FOV of 60.

EDIT: Sry, for double post.

So we know that the PS4 version is running at 1080p 30fps. Are there many graphical features missing that are in the pc version? And I'm assuming the PS4 version has ugly FXAA.

So if I have a 16:9 2560x1440 27" monitor I would do 60 vert fov as well based on this calculator. I'm curious what the FOV is horizontally in this game then?

Absolute max everything at 1440p runs 90fps+

4k drops to about 50fps. I set it to fullscreen windowed to fix the vsync which doesn't seem to be working.

Lots of chromatic aberration on some objects, looks a bit fuzzy.

Also looks awesome and really enjoying it so far. Just watched the movie yesterday for the first time.

Ok glad im not the only one who is noticing the weird AA. I turned it off, FXX, TX1 and 2 and nothing makes a difference. No frame rate difference, nothing. Almost feel it is not even working.

Went as far as 2160p, and while it's much better than 1080p, some of the shimmering was still there. Other than that, the graphics are great.

The game itself seems to be right up my alley, too. I don't think I'd ever give it a 6/10. Not a chance.

Any GTX 770 2GB impressions for this game?

Looks like I might be able to squeeze 120fps out of this game if I play with the settings a bit.

i7 and a 780, looks like 4k at 60fps could be doable with a little tinkering. Not bad at all, after how badly Shadow of Mordor ran (crash to desktop all the time) it'll be nice to play something a little more stable.

So I downsampled it to 4k and I'm still getting those beautiful jaggies:

i5-2500k, 770 4GB - as expected 60fps on ultra. But the aliasing really destroys the atmosphere, is this "shader aliasing"? Has anybody tried injecting smaa or found sgssaa bits for nvidia cards? Whatever, game seems to be great.

Yep, its shader aliasing. Its the same reason why Star Citizen is currently so jaggy, because it has very advanced shading and nothing to fight its aliasing yet.
Ryse handled it by special filter in g-buffer and specially prepared shaders and textures and yet we need something better in future.

So can we expect any sort of fix for the shimmering? It won't ruin the game for me, but it really diminishes the otherwise beautiful look.

Shader aliasing.

Definitely this and nothing to do with shader aliasing being notoriously difficult to eliminate.

This.

For whatever reason the game will now let me load saves without crashing on loading screen. It makes the game amusingly less stressful knowing that not only I can save but also load it and start where I left off.

Graphically speaking the game is convincing if not terribly impressive. One particular detail caught my eye : the metal shader on the revolver, it looks great.
Too bad that the majority of the materials are not anything special, fucking cross-gen development.

OK, this is a really dumb question (but hey worth a shot):

The game crashes for me once I try to load up the game (it boots ok, but once I try to play it is when it shits the bed).

I admit this is almost certainly down to having a GPU that doesn't meet the minimum requirements (Radeon HD 6770M 512MB vram). Is this the likely cause of the problem?

I was willing to play the game in shitty circumstances until I can upgrade, I just thought it'd still run =/

I didn't even realized this unlocked early until I got here. Definitely going to get some play in later on... after dark...

Maybe not such a good idea, but what the hell, it's October. Spoopy time.

Did you try turning things down?

Game resolution, texture quality, shadows, ao/aa.
