Alien: Isolation sequel is in early development

I was planning a replay for several years now, definitely going to do it now. I really hope that the sequel will be 100% singleplayer and without an open world (station? settlement?) to explore.

Witness the incredible enthusiasm the gaming community has for being trapped in a claustrophobic space station and hunted down by a terrifying monster.

Says a lot about the state of real life in 2024.

Day one.

It will have to be non-canon/fanfic at this point if they continue with Amanda Ripley or it would raise many questions how The Company acts in Aliens and make it a bit silly that Ripley's Daughter has had way more dealings with the Alien than Ellen herself before even the 2nd movie.

Don't want to pour cold water on this, but I'm going to anyway fuckers:

Who owns the Alien franchise now?

That's right.

Disney.
I mean, Dark Descent was pretty good and judging by user reviews people liked it just as much as they liked Alien Isolation. Fireteam Elite was OK.
I don't think Disney owning the IP had something to do with the quality of those games, for better or for worse.

I hope you're right. But this is a far more high profile project, and that usually means much more interference... :messenger_weary:

And Ryan Mccaffrey: stay the fuck away from reviewing this game. I mean it.

And people wonder why reviewers are scared to give games low scores.

He gave solid reasoning for his score. The original had a lot of flaws; it didn't bother a lot of people but it did bother a lot of others.

I would agree with you in any other case, but Ryan is an idiot. Dude has a history of idiotic opinions across the years.

And no, he gave no solid reasoning for his score. He is disappointed by how the game isnt what he wanted it to be instead of judging it by what it is.

It reads like "why you are only kicking the ball in FIFA? It got so boring after a while. Why not using your hands? Spicing up the gameplay"

He complains about the alien not showing up during the first hour, ffs.

This is not a 95 MC scored game. It had received other bad/mid scores. The IGN one is infamous for being shit, not because its controversial or anything.

Yes he did. You are just making up what you think he said.

He said he really enjoyed it to start with but got sick of how obscenely padded and repetitive it was. Which it absolutely was, and is the number 1 complaint people have with it.

I'm coming to the realisation that I must be the only person on the planet who fucking hated this game.

Went into it hating stealth mechanics, came out despising them even more.

I wasn't a big fan once you realize there's an invisible leash between you and the Alien and often you can't do anything but wait till you're allowed to move again.

If it'd be the same team I would actually be okay with a Prometheus-type of story from them in the future, after Isolation 2. The Prometheus movie sucked, but had some very interesting elements that could be amazing if done right by competent people. But it would have to be only inspired and not based on it. Let us get even further into space and stumble upon interesting Engineer-lore and fascinating xenomorph variants.

About fucking time. They've probably seen the sales figures creep up over the years to make them think it might be worthwhile. Yeah, a lot of those copies were sold for $5, but it's more about leveraging those numbers to hopefully get a lot of people to buy the sequel.
I bought it full price on PS4, and since im a trophy hunter, bought the PS3 version. I may get the japanese version to do it again before this one comes out. They are gonna get me.

Can you imagine if they use the PS5 Pro AI to make the alien more unpredictable. It might make it nigh impossible, but I would love that.

I looked up the definition of insecurity and this post showed up

Very glad to hear a sequel is in development, although I do think there should be more variety in the gameplay, the original game is LONG and I don't know if I could take another 15-20 hours of cat and mouse gameplay. I may be in the minority for thinking this, but part of me really wanted the game's finishing acts to introduce something more action-oriented to mix up the pacing, like finding a marine rifle with limited ammo or something. You spend so much of the game shitting your pants, would've made for a satisfying payoff imo.

It took a decade and survived in spite of you. Wild he has the audacity to post that when his review is infamous for being so off-base and lacking in insight. I guess a decade of people shitting on him for it kind of got to him.

Also, legit lol @ a gaming journalist calling anyone an "armchair expert". 0 self-awareness. Gaming journalists are not, and never will be, real journalists.

Best gaming news in a long long time.
Don't fuck it up. Doubt much of the original team that developed the first one is still around.

Nope. Same. The world and aesthetics were amazing but the gameplay and alien "leash" AI were dreadful to me. And there weren't even solid, reliable stealth mechanics involved.

I loved the world enough though to see if they'll do something more interested with this for the sequel.

Romulus was competently made, but was a greatest hits package of things from other better (and worse) movies, with virtually zero creativity or originality on display whatsoever.

I hope Isolation 2 is left alone by everyone at the parent company.
That is true but in comparison to the 4 other films in the franchise after Aliens & the two AvP films it’s far and away the best (and is fairly entertaining for what it is).

Obviously doesn’t hold a candle to the first two but as 3, Resurrection, Prometheus, and Covenant plus the AvP films show it can get much, much worse.

Yes, some of the callbacks were unnecessary. And while it's not the best Alien film, it's easily the third best one IMO.
I liked the new lore additions, and I really appreciated them bringing some expanded universe stuff from other media so everything seems connected, even stuff from Alien Isolation.
Also, I think it's safe to assume the sequel was greenlit thanks to the success of the new film.

When GaaS fails, the fallback plan is to make good, traditional games.

Looking forward to Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio failing !
