Aliens: Colonial Marines |OT| Game Over Man, GAME OVER!

People think the game is a joke. Are you suggesting they that shouldn't express their opinion? It's the job of SEGA and Gearbox to change their minds, not you.

When making an OT... don't make the whole OT reflect your personal statement on a game. Your supposed to be telling people about the game. Don't try to justify this crap.

Not actually that important
Pfft, I owned that game and it was terribly boring. Unless you like doing lists of 'go from point A to B' type objectives, in which case it was the best game ever made!

This game was much better...

Too bad no one played it.

I own it but I'm stuck at the Dino Alien boss, got there with just a character so I'm fucked now :/
Have you got tips maybe?

Yikes. Didn't realise this game was going to be the butt of so many jokes.
What happened here?
Are people really joking about the game? I saw it more as criticising the lack of marketing. And posting the hundreds of quotable lines from the movie.

Yeah, it's possible I was overhyped - I bought it in the UK for a flight back to Perth and tried really hard to get into it but it just didn't hold my interest. Seems it was received pretty well so it was probably just me :p

Naw, it's definitely not for everyone. My friend just finished it and bitched at me for recommending it. He pretty much complained about everything, lol.

You mean, the boss near the radar towers? I don't know, I almost always had four marines throughout the whole game, lol. Basically run backwards while shooting, throw grenades when you can, then dodge roll when he gets close, lol. If that doesn't work, go look for other marines or upgrades or watch this video (if it's the same boss) and do what he does:

Crazy, there's no FAQ for this game... I should write one, lol.

I thought you said this wasn't about the OT, but about people expressing their negative opinions on the game?

That's NOT what I'm referring to. I'm referring to the onslaught of jabs and jokes on the games first page and continuing. Just seems a bit harsh.

So what exactly are you trying to say?

I'm trying to figure out why you're coming in here and shitting on people for expressing their opinions on the game. This is a discussion forum, it's kind of the whole point.

It's just a crappy OT that doesn't do anything to tell people about the game and sets a precedence for the thread itself.

The game will set the precedent for the thread. Currently all people have available to them are the absolutely laughable marketing materials SEGA has put out there and are responding accordingly. If the game ends up being good, you'll see that reflected here when people get their hands on it.

I have the game preordered and am looking forward to playing through the campaign in co-op with my friends!

And when we're done there, jumping into the multiplayer for some survival or escape mode fun :)

MAX HYPE!!

Strangely I put the DEMO of the original AvP PC game up there as the scariest. The graphics seemed dirtier and more 'cold' looking than the final product and it was genuinely scary - the Aliens seemed kind of random each time too - no scripted events, just this lonely feeling that you could be attacked at any time. Awesome stuff.

Anyone know if you can install games like that and control them using a Dualshock/Xbox controller on a Mac/PC?

I don't know about the demo but if you missed it: AvP1 is on Steam and they updated the game to support the 360 controller (and widescreen). http://store.steampowered.com/app/3730/

Back onto topic. Game special edition is pre-ordered, got a bunch of friends online and locally getting this. Time to kill some xeno ass!

"Duke Nukem Forever in Space" is probably what this game actually is. And what I mean is really sloppy and unfun shooting combined with a lot of variety, yet everything feels dull and apathetic.

The best Aliens game came out a long time ago. Still holds up to this day.

It is not possible to agree with people more than I agree with you now, in regards to AvP2 being the best.

I've done up a super-basic but usable bit of info for the OP if you wanna use it. Most of it is from Wiki but at least will explain some aspects of the game for those that aren't aware of it!

Release Date : 12th February 2013 (Xbox 360, PC, PlayStation 3). Wii U TBC

Aliens: Colonial Marines is an upcoming video game in development by Gearbox Software and is to be published by Sega for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, Wii U and Xbox 360. The game is a first-person shooter based on the characters and creatures of the Alien franchise, particularly the film Aliens.

Aliens: Colonial Marines is a first-person shooter which puts the player in the role of a United States Colonial Marine named Cpl. Christopher Winter. The player will have access to iconic weapons from the movie such as the flamethrower, pulse rifle, smartgun, shotgun, pistol, RPGs, and robotic sentry turrets. Players will also be able to use welding torches to seal doors and motion trackers to detect unseen enemies.

Described as a true sequel to James Cameron's film, the story of Aliens: Colonial Marines takes place after the events of the second film, Aliens. At PAX East 2012, Gearbox Software's Community Manager confirmed that the game is considered an official part of the Alien franchise's canon by 20th Century Fox. Much of the main plot was written by Battlestar Galactica writers Bradley Thompson and David Weddle.

The story is told through the eyes of Corporal Christopher Winter, a Colonial Marine who is part of a search and rescue team sent to investigate the U.S.S. Sulaco in search of Ellen Ripley, Corporal Dwayne Hicks, and the rest of the missing marines who were dispatched to LV-426. The Sulaco, and the derelict alien spacecraft from Alien as well as LV-426 itself will all serve as environments in the game, as well as other locations yet to be detailed.

Single Player Campaign
The game includes a story-driven single player campaign mode, where players will earn experience points when killing enemies and completing certain objectives. These experience points will allow players to customize the appearance of their character, purchase upgrades for weapons, and unlock other skill sets, all of which carry over to other gameplay modes.

Multiplayer Modes
Aliens: Colonial Marines features a campaign with dynamic drop-in/drop-out cooperative multiplayer for up to 4 players online or 2 players locally via split screen. Competitive multiplayer has been confirmed, and Gearbox has shown Aliens vs Marines team deathmatch 6 v 6 gameplay, as well as a 4 v 4 objective mode called Escape, where the marines team must reach an evac point while the alien team must hunt and stop them. Other modes include Survival, which pits four marines against hordes of Aliens in a confined map.

I can conclude that this game will not be worth my time from one simple piece of evidence: The gameplay video where the marines were using power loaders to fight the aliens.

This game is pure fan service. There were a couple of things in the 2 hour presentation on IGN that made me cringe horribly. The worst being
recordings you find, somehow intact among the wreckage, of Newt talking to her mother.

Found-audio recordings. The scourge of this gen.

Imagine a radial communication system like L4D where you pick short phrases to "talk" with the other players. Now imagine all the options being "Get away from her you bitch" "Nuke the site from orbit" "Game over man" etc...

And now imagine a co-op Straw Dogs game where all the players are equipped with bear traps. This is how this game strikes me.

Nope, not the chimp-like alien, that one was a cake, the one resembling a mixup between an Alien Queen and a friggin T-Rex, it's some huge Queen if anything.

I got there with all my dudes (rescued plenty during the game) then fucked them all 'up and I guess also fucked up my savegame since now I'm stuck with only one marine -_-

Any early reviews on this game? I tried Google but couldn't find anything, maybe the non-English reviews elude my English keyword search.
The game is hitting the stores early today or tomorrow in Hong Kong cos of Chinese New Year (the official 12th Feb release date is in the middle of the Chinese New Year period when most shops will be closed, stocks certainly won't be delivered), so I'll probably snatch a copy and give you guys an early impression.
But to be honest I'm not really confident about the game, just hoping to read some reviews before I decide.

Oh yeah this is a great game. I was fighting the final boss riding the subway on the way to school and was about to miss my station when a girl from my class saw me and got my attention just on time. Only time this has ever happened to me.

Oh man - you have to PAY for the horde mode? Fuck off, Sega. I'll wait til this is bargain bin.
