Aliens: Colonial Marines |OT| Game Over Man, GAME OVER!

The mere idea of it is what's awful, not the implementation or whatever.

If you want to see something hilariously awful in this game, check out the videos of the aliens glitching out or the clip of the marine saying, "shits all explodin and shit."

The implementation is pretty bad too. It's just such a mind fuck, and they handle it in the clumsiest way possible. I was starting to like the game more at that point, because I felt the level design had improved dramatically, but then that happened and took me right back out.

The upright walking xeno's were one of the dumbest things I have ever seen in an Aliens game, but I completely ignored that section as a whole in my mind and just kept on playing.

Despite a lot of stupid gameplay decisions, the subpar graphics, terrible voice acting and average shooting mechanics I am still liking this game a lot.

I think it has something to do with the fact that this game actually brings a bit of the 'Aliens' atmosphere that I wanted to see in other games. It is the only thing this game 'kinda' succeeds in.

It is nowhere near the 3/10 - 4/10 - 5/10 reviews. I actually rate it a little above DNF. Just mindless fun.

There's that old chestnut again.

What's the
big twist
?

Hicks is alive, and is being held by Weyland-Yutani. He apparently got out of his cryotube when WY attacked the Sulaco as it was orbiting the prison planet, so when they got ejected he was still on the ship.

When one of the characters asks how they found his body on the prison planet if he wasn't in the tube, he simply says "that's a longer story for a different day." Like they knew their incredibly dumb fanfic didn't make sense so they didn't even try to justify it.

It also implies he was basically witness to Ripley and Newt getting ejected onto an all-male prison planet, and somehow only managed to save himself.

Posted things here. Nevermind. If people want to take up torches and pitchforks let them. This whole thing is a terrible shame on all fronts.

Yeah screw Eurogamer for 3/10

TimeGate: That's it man, game over man, game over! What the fuck are we gonna do now? What are we gonna do?
Gearbox: Maybe we could build a fire, sing a couple of songs, huh? Why don't we try that?
I'm glad Gearbox got the corporate weasel Burke's line.

Dumb and ultimately non-canonical, but I bet you a million dollars Alien 3 haters would have loved to see this. Ripley's a clone in the fourth movie anyway...... Big leaps in logic are ok.

smh. Couldn't they have pulled something out of their ass that was a little better than that?

Ultimately I feel the game could have benefited from NOT being about Colonial Marines. I would love to play a straight up horror game in Hadley's Hope - I suppose playing as Newt's brother during the outbreak, fall, and aftermath. Amnesia style gameplay in HH... one can dream.

Is there any reason to think the 8gb patch rumor is true? I could see a pc update being that large, but that would be a lot to download on a console. I have been playing the pc version and think its pretty mediocre so far, but any updates would be welcome.

But he is a human in Alien 3 Dunno why he could take a big blow to his head and still stand up and talk to ripely like that, should have died at least

I think this might have been only in the extended cut, but just after receiving the blow to the head, he has red blood coming from the wound, and yells to Ripley, "I'm not a droid!"

It totally feels like an old school FPS from the mid to late 90s.

Not a bad thing for a guy my age.

But the shit that is wrong is incredibly noticeable.

At least the orchestral score and sound effects are right on the money.

Don't see how it could be that huge unless they retextured the entire game, among many other things.

Right, it's different in the assembly cut but a little unbelievable how unfazed he is by his f'd up ear.

Yeah but seeing how frail humans are in the alien franchise it doesn't make any sense that he can take a hit like that. And bleeding red blood, can't it be red milk instead of the standard white milk androids have? :p

What the fuck.

I bought the Xbox-version so I could get that collector's edition.

Start playing the game

And I'm not double dipping on this piece of shit.

I just want an acceptable Aliens-experience, and I've already played AVP2010. :(

You, my friend, have chosen the wrong image host. Use abload.de or similar.

It's funny that they went on and on about how this game is canon in the Aliens fiction when it's so terrible. I can't imagine people who were pissed about what happens to the characters in Alien 3 accepting this as a better alternative.

I'd rather they just ignore Alien 3 altogether. Not that I hate Alien 3, as I've actually come to see it as a decent film over the years (Assembly Cut helped a lot with that). I mean, if they're going to create bullshit retcons like in this game, they might as well just ignore the later movies altogether, it's what I do, lol. I think the fans who don't like Alien 3 would rather an alternative story rather than one that just cobbles up a bunch of crap to explain things that they clearly can't write around.

So I rented the game via redbox, and its plain awful on the 360. Screen tearing galore. I don't think their is a single frame that doesn't tear when its got its "lighting" effects going. Graphics are horrible. Playing it on ultimate badass mode and the first Xeno encounter I had to hunt the Xeno instead of vice versa. Awesome AI. When I found it the Xeno it just sat in one spot while I shot it. Game is horrible.

Right, it's different in the assembly cut but a little unbelievable how unfazed he is by his f'd up ear.

I just rewatched the A3 assembly cut night before last, and I felt certain he was supposed to be an android. After 85 hits him, half his face is essentially hanging off. He continues to yell at Ripley despite the massive wound.

Why don't you put Activision in charge!

Holy crap lol, I never would have thought I would see this again. Played that on my dad's Apple IIc waaaaay back when I was a little kid. Took me forever to get through the whole game. And I really hated that corridor navigating stage.

Playing on PC. Just finished Mission 5. Best one so far. Still liking the game, 7/10. Graphics are fine, although there seems to be a HUGE difference between PC and console graphics.

Still reading exaggerations here about it being a 2/10 or 0/10 game or some crap like that. It's not. I wonder how many people who are trashing it like that have actually played the game and are not jumping on the hate bandwagon.

They were my favorite part of the game. There was actually two of them. One where you switched between the marines trying to get back to the APC and then the one where you play Ripley looking for Newt and then escorting her back where you first confront the Queen.

Back in the day, I loved this game so much! I played it so many times it's not funny.

On console, its easily a 2 out of 10. It's an insult.

FOX should wait until the dust settles... and then retcon this game from the canon.
I honestly think if given the potential of some quick cash Fox would allow an Alien sitcom to be considered canon. It makes zero sense.

Can't imagine anyone who actually read this dialogue/story would allow it to be an official 'sequel' to Aliens with a straight face. They obviously just went 'yeah, canon, whatever- just make us some money'.

You know, if tbey were goiny to do this, i wish theyd just said ' screw it ' and
brought newt back too. At least then we could feel all warm and fuzzy while hating it
