i remember seeing a list somewhere listing all the sales numbers for consoles sold on all systems in the past 2 decades or so. (handhelds included please?)

does anyone still have that list or a link?

I can give you a rough list:

NES 62m
GB 120m
SNES 50m
N64 32m
GBA 58m
GC 16m

PS 102m
PS2 70m

XB 16m

Genesis / MD 30m
Saturn 12m
Dreamcast 10m

Some of these numbers are definitely off. Genesis has to be closer to the SNES numbers; I recall it being extremely close by the end. And Xbox is at least a million higher than Gamecube now.

Yeah it broke 100,000,000 like a year ago (or was it two years ago?)

It was at 75,000,000 by the end of its generation. So it did 25,000,000 since that generation ended, non?

SNES/Genesis was close in the US but SFC/MD was not close at all in Japan. That is why there is a big difference.

Ah. Back in the day I wasn't really on the internet so I couldn't get the story from good ol' Japan. But I guess it makes sense... Genesis had the best sports games.

Yeah, SNES did 17m in Japan alone, compared to about 2m for Genesis / MD.

In the west, 28m vs about 32m so as you say it was pretty close...

VB 2m
N64 36m
GBA 58m+
GC 16m+
DS 2m+

PS 102m+
PS2 70m+
PSP 250k+

XB 16m+

Mark III/SMS 11m
Genesis/MD 38m
Game Gear 12m
Mega/Sega CD 3.5m
Saturn 14m
Dreamcast 10m

PCE/TG16 5m
PCE/TurboCD/Duo 2.5m
PCFX 750k

All I know is the disturbing trend that each successive console Nintendo releases sells less and less. GC isn't going to catch up to the N64.

Here's the magic word:

Source

These people are pulling numbers out of their rears, or using unrealiable sources...

SNES and MD worldwide were nearly tied.
