So does it mean that I can watch the conference live... then watch all the 4k60fps goodness AGAIN... and then watch 10x videos from DF explaining those videos AGAIN???

Hype overload.

no. „Majority“ of trailers will be available in 4K afterwards.
But not all.
And we don’t know yet if it’s 30fps or 60fps.

LOL that's exactly what I asked for yesterday when they said it was going to be 1080p30! Thanks Sony.

They answered your prayers, Quarantine Cerny-san.

Edit. /sarcasm

Oh yeah, there's gonna be analysis vids for days. I'll watch them, for sure, but they will be popping up left and right

Correct. Can a mod change the thread title please? Can't have this sort of disinformation spreading.

Fucking beautiful news.

I'm not going to catch the live show in 1080p. I wish not to sully my brain with the blurry mess that is 1080p on my 4K TV.

I want the full 4K experience and will catch all trailers and/or gameplay after the live show.

*PS. I got no issue with Sony's 1080p live stream. Just prefer to see the games the way they are meant to be displayed.

Like legit question, what's the point of the "live" stream then? This is a pre-recorded show, why not have the 4k60 video of the show set to unlock at a specific time? Why bother doing a low bitrate 1080p30 "live" stream that's not even live if you're going to flick a switch to unlock the 4k videos after?

Just wanted you guys to know that you can set your PS4 to turn on and switch to the live event even if the machine is off.

You can do this by joining the PS5 event in Events in your PS4 menu.

Just a cool feature I discovered only recently thanks to Shuhei Yoshida on twitter

1080/30? That's Youtube around 2012?

It's a pre-recorded show, a bunch of studios will submit their video clip and Sony will compile it into a one hour show.

There is no excuse how a bunch of game makers can't figure out how to make submitted clips 4k or 60 fps (or both). Even people uploading clips to YT have been doing 60 fps uploads since YT allowed 60 fps.

Does Sony not have a way to capture 60fps gameplay?

Even their VR trailers only run at 30 on their YT channel, despite them being the market leader.

Why the fuck aren't they capable of streaming in 4K? For something I'm betting is pre-recorded. Even if it wasn't makes 0 sense why it isn't 4K from the get go.

Edit - Just seen the other thread, "ease of production" :messenger_grinning_squinting:

This is perplexing. If they can upload them all to youtube in 4k, why not just edit them all into one 4K video for the presentation. It's 2020, not 2002, if they have speed to move around 4k trailers, they can edit them together with the time they have. I could do it for them for free from my home in a day. This really makes no sense.
If you really want to say the internet is too slow, it's time for some internet package upgrades, or splurge on a courier or 2.

So basically we should just not watch the live conference, wait for the trailers, can't think of a reason why I would want to watch amazing looking next gen games at 1/4 the resolution.

Why is the debut stream in 1080p to begin with if they have the 4K sources? It's a pretaped presentation isn't it?

It amazes me that we're still stuck in 1080p30fps land for streaming what's supposed to be a next gen showcase from a billion dollar company. My guess is this is simply due to them not being confident higher quality live feed would be stable given the amount of people who will turn up to watch it. Nothing to do with remote work difficulties due to covid. Also, no reason to have a 60 FPS stream when your games are mostly 30 FPS anyways, and probably running below that too since they'll mostly be early dev builds or just in engine cinematics. Besides, "4K" streams usually come with trash bitrates so it's not like I'd expect much better from that. It really begs the question whether there's even a point to watching this "live", when you could just wait an hour for a higher quality version.
