would it be worth tracking down Capcom Generations 2 for the Saturn [ghouls and ghosts compilation] or wait for the PS2 release that's coming out here soon? how is the emulation on the Saturn version?
if anyone has it/played it, please post your opinions on either.

I'd suggest waiting for the PS2 compilation, as it's basically the same as the PSX port of Capcom Generations.

I do recall the Saturn version having a lot of slowdown, but I'm not sure if this is absent in the PSX versions.

I'd wait. Unless you'd much rather play it on the Saturn. Which is always a good thing.

Seems logical to wait since it's likely the Capcom Classics for PS2 are mostly ported from the Capcom Generations discs and you're getting 20+ games for $20 dollars on the new one while hunting down Cap Gen Vol. 2 would likely cost at least 40-50 dollars

i would think the saturn versions are ports rather than emulations. anyway, ghosts n' goblins and ghouls n' ghosts seem to be perfect on saturn, but super ghouls n' ghosts has black borders at the sides of the screen. this is a problem with all snes ports to saturn...the saturn's lowest resolution isn't quite low enough. if it bothers you, get the ps1 version instead.

the ps2 version will probably have filtered graphics, which you may or may not like.

I have the PSX version which IIRC runs perfectly fine. Each game also has a museum mode of sorts included galleries, tips, tricks, and whathaveyou. I imagine the Saturn was no different(edit: or really close. I can't even recall if the PSX shares that screen issue)

The GBA release is also pretty good, though it focuses on SGnG, the arranged mode includes stages from Ghouls n Ghosts.

awesome, another Ghouls & Ghosts thread :D

yes, it is worth it to track down Capcom Generation 2, for SATURN.

Ghouls ' N Ghosts, the 2nd game in the series and the 2nd game on the disc, is not totally 100% identical to the 1988 CPS1 arcade: there are some fairly minor (but noticable) differences. overall it is the arcade version, just with a few flaws. it is not emulation, it is a port.

differences in Saturn GnG on CapGen2: there are no arcade CPS1 setup configuration screens. the ending music is slightly changed. the resolution is 'fat' resulting in the edges of the screen being cut off on both sides. there is some slow-down when playing (i.e during the rainstorm with tornados in the 2nd half of level 1),
the color leans toward the reddish hue compared to the arcade. there is a couple of frames of animation cut from when you power-up with the golden magic armor. there are of course load times. other than that, its a huge leap beyond the Sega Genesis or NEC SuperGrafx versions, basicly mirroring the arcade.

Saturn version is the better version overall. the distant parallax scrolling backgrounds in GnG are very visible, unlike in the PS1 version.

as well as Ghosts n Goblins

Didn't Generations 2 also have arranged music? Or am I just insane. I sorta recall arranged music, maybe it was just in the menus.

I dont remember if SuperGnG in Capcom Generations 2 had arranged music or not. but I can say for certain that the ending song in regular Ghouls n Ghosts was arranged / re-arranged compared to the arcade version, and I didn't like that one bit.

thanks for all the replies, i think i'll wait to see how the PS2 compilation looks and just buy whichever after it comes out.
thanks again.
