Yeah, I prefer the original language w/ subtitles for most things.I'm a dub guy for eva. That's how I first saw it so that's what I go with. The nostalgia is strong with it. Do you always go sub?

What type of naming convention is 3.0 + 1.0?
Are these different than the tv show?
Thanks I guess.See here

It's Eva. Not even Anno understands what it's about. The best way to even try is to just play the simplified story in a Super Robot Wars game. It does give you a dilemma of whether to keep Shinji in the Unit 01 for some godly long range damage or to deploy him in Unit 13 for godly close range damage plus Kaworu as a subpilot. No spoilers yet I guess?
I watched all the movies between last night and this morning. Maybe I’m dumb but I felt kind of lost many times, probably made worse by browsing information about TVs for much of the third movie. Mari’s character is kind of confusing to me in general too. She just shows up without any backstory
Have you seen the TV series? If not watch Mega64s videosNo spoilers yet I guess?

you forgot extra load of fanservice in number 4.First time watching these.
1.11: B. Well made but redundant retelling of the TV series.
2.22: A. Great execution and different enough to be compelling. Likable characters throughout, beautiful animation.
3.33: D. Terrible plotting, boring, Shinji angst overload, loss of all character development from the prior film. Shark jump.
4: F. Dull, incoherent gibberish. Lazy expository dialogue to push the plot forward between meaningless action set pieces. Script may have been generated with GPT-3 for how random and pointless it all is. Fancy concepts are named and never explained or utilized meaningfully, one after another. A chore to sit through.

At the time, people hate the TV ending but think that's cause its so different to the previous 24 episodes.TV series still has a better ending overall IMO.
Because most mech shows were filled with alpha chads prior to EVA.Anno ever say why he made Shinji such a bitch?
I'd recommend Ghost Stories but for other reasons. Can any of you anime people recommend something on Amazon Prime or Netflix for someone who's never watched anime? Preferably something darker more mature in tone? Is there like a Mt Rushmore type anime on either of those services?
It's not just series or rebuild. There's also the wonderful movie End of Evangelion available on Netflix, iircAt the time, people hate the TV ending but think that's cause its so different to the previous 24 episodes.
I prefer the 'meta' ending of the rebuild movies if it truly is the end of anno's evangelion.
He didn't have to go the complete other way with it. This why I prefer rahxephon. Ayato isn't a bitch.Because most mech shows were filled with alpha chads prior to EVA.
Rahxephon is good, but do not like the ending of that series. He didn't have to go the complete other way with it. This why I prefer rahxephon. Ayato isn't a bitch.
Just to make everything clear for everybody if you watch Ghost Stories on Amazon Prime Watch it Dubbed, not Subtitled. Trust me on that.I'd recommend Ghost Stories but for other reasons.
I dunno about that. Amuro, Kamille, Hikaru from Macrossbarent really alpha. Chirico from VOTOMs totally is thoBecause most mech shows were filled with alpha chads prior to EVA.
Amuro had to get roughed up to get in the robot, Kamille regularly threw hands with Quattro and tried to fight back against Wong. Dunno about Hikaru though, not seen the original Jpop Gundam.I dunno about that. Amuro, Kamille, Hikaru from Macrossbarent really alpha. Chirico from VOTOMs totally is tho

Hell yes. Sub all the way.Do you always go sub?
This isn't an anime in the Japanese sense, but you might like Invincible. Check it out.Can any of you anime people recommend something on Amazon Prime or Netflix for someone who's never watched anime? Preferably something darker more mature in tone? I know, I did just re-watch that. I am slightly torn between the two. I think EoE is a better ending in terms of actually making logical sense. I don't know if it's a better ending for the characters and whole universe. I think that's the underlying thing that's Anno was trying to achieve and has skewed the film enough that's throwing people off. It's not just series or rebuild. There's also the wonderful movie End of Evangelion available on Netflix, iirc
Yes.Is 3.0+1.0....the fourth movie?
I am still not 100% sure what Shinji did at the end... did he basically.
I liked 3 the most. It was like Tron Legacy, style over substance. Amazing fights and music.First time watching these.

I think so but I don't think he brings back anyone that's dead at that point so no misato and kaji. Whether that's a choice or not I don't know for sure, I think it's a choice though as he has accepted his past and the loss of the loved ones. I think Mari still has the most outstanding questions about how she basically stays her ages but motives I can rationalise as a promise to yui.
The last hour was actually a retcon to EoE.First hour I was like EviLore is on some shit. This movie is actually good. The final battle onward though? Holyfuck it's AWFUL, he was right.
Anno sabotaged his cash cow and legacy hard. Guess he really is done with it. Oh well, original TV series and End of Eva remains intact.

how is ir retcon since it is a reboot? The last hour was actually a retcon to EoE.
I'm amazed amazon was ok with all the fan service in 4, definitely not a chore so far for that one. I've only watched part of it, but it's ridiculous.I feel like after 20-something years of this series and the rebuild movies up to this point, and as I’ve got Prime, it’s my duty to see this through. But after 3 I’m looking at this like some sort of chore that must be done
I think there's a movie called death and rebirth that kinda summarizes the series. But watching the series is better. As commented here earlier by others these latest rebuild movies is kind of retelling and some of the earlier movies kinda summarize part of the old eva series.I watched the anime series. Is there a movie version of the series? I want my friend to see it, but he won't watch an entire series.
No, it tried to add closer and throw new concepts in and blend it together on top of piling stupid concepts to amp up the stakes.Did you not like it because it was so crazy and over the top?
I think Rebuild is the same as FF VII remake. The original story happened and then continued over into a new timeline to repeat the events.how is ir retcon since it is a reboot?
Nah Gunbuster is awesome and NGE is revolutionized the industry and Shin Godzilla is one of the best movies to come out that year . It's just he completely misstep with this. No, it tried to add closer and throw new concepts in and blend it together on top of piling stupid concepts to amp up the stakes.
It's just a mess of a movie. I waited 9 years for this? Lmfao. Anno really is a hack.

Just a massive yikes from me.
Evangelion is a time loop?how is ir retcon since it is a reboot?
