Am I overreacting? RE: being called a "maricon" by an NPC in a game

You have failed to comprehend the OP. It's pretty obvious he is pointing out that slurs are uncommon and not used in such a context in games untiljust this past month. He isn't at all suggesting asshole NPCs are new.

The strangest thing is that I never said that it shouldn't be in the game, I just said that I found it odd because I hadn't heard something like that in-game before and it seems "off" given the tone of the rest of the game.

I'd actually just like to delete this damn thread. Or at least change the shitty name.

Honest question for Spanish-speaking GAF: which is worse, being called "maricon" or "mariposa"?

Never heard mariposa as an insult. The most "offensive" use of mariposa I've heard was in a Mana song.

It's pretty interesting to read maricon is a very offensive word in Spain, whereas in Mexico it's pretty common and somewhat of a tame insult. I'm sure a good amount of Hispanics worked on this game and didn't mean it to be insulting.

Well, here in México, the vast majority of insults are considered to be very tame.

Having spent a few hours in WD2 it makes more sense, sort of. For whatever reason Ubi really turned up the "ambient open world NPC dialogue" knob to 11 on the asshole scale.
