Am I the only person who uses their Xbox as a media source?

My Xbox Series X is connected to a receiver that is connected to my TV in a 5.1.2 setup. It plays Netflix, Apple+, Amazon Prime, Youtube, HBO Max, and of course games too (and probably a few other apps I forgot). I love everything about it, and there are even remotes that support the Xbox. But I've noticed that basically every app except Netflix does not recognize when media specific commands are sent via a remote like pause, fast forward, rewind, etc. Only things on the Xbox controller work (basically "A" to select, "B" to go back", and "Y" to search if you are lucky). Shouldn't this cause an app to fail certification from Microsoft? Or am I just doing things wrong with my media setup?

I wanted to post this in the gaming forum in hopes that some Xbox bigwig would see and fix this, but I suppose it does have nothing to do with gaming. Thanks for listening to my rant.

We found them! The only one.

Seriously I don’t use my series x or ps5 for media, built in TV apps works just fine.

You are correct, the apps should be more unified in command support.

The other sad part about using a $500 media console is that some of the apps somehow still can't even play video without stuttering. I'm looking at you Peacock and Paramount+. You had one job.

With sticks and apps on stb I imagine most people wouldn't choose to. The power draw and noise is offputting given the alternatives. It is a nice to have if stuck though.

I don't use any other devices for media in the front room.

In order of hours used all-time (thousands):

Amazon Music
Youtube
Video Games
Amazon Prime Video
Netflix
Peacock
Disney+
HBO Max

If I'm home my Xbox is turned on at all times, doing something... unless I'm on my Switch or PC for brief moments.

My wife and I use our PS3 to watch blu-rays and Prime. No issues for us on the system, other than the ridiculous regular updates for it (thing's pretty old now, damn).

My stupid samsung tv does all that too. I would be wasting electricity to have 2 things running when I only need one (tv) because it can do it all (not gaming). Damn I feel really good at math now.

I use it for Netflix, because all other devices is running that shit on lower quality. Probably some specifics to the Netflix app.

I too use my PS5 as media hub for Amazon Prime, Netflix, Youtube,…
Main reason is that PS5 is hooked up to the LAN.

I keep mine in a closet behind the TV so the noise is negligible. Fair point about power though.

I'm still with the PS4, but I do use it as a media center for a few apps. I couple it with a Prime Fire 4K box, which also used to have Mobdro.

RIP Mobdro. Stitches get put in ditches.

No, I use an Nvidia Shield. I'd use an android stick or HTPC before any of the consoles. They do the job very well.

Whatever works is good, though. I have everything set up to handle the nightmare of formats that my TV, receiver, and media box can handle.

I normally run Plex through my TV, but when the kids are in bed and I need to use my headphones, I watch through my PS5. I love how I can use my AirPods on PS5, with a usb dongle, and not need to be tethered to the controller.

Typical anti-Playstation propaganda amirite geuise? How is Shill Spencer a proper source of the truth, so much for ethics in journalism.

I would guess most streaming apps are run in HTML5 wrappers, except for Netflix which is an actual UWP/Xbox app that is able to take advantage of the media remote features.
Seems to be a common occurrence in various smartTV and STB platforms although at least the play/media buttons work on those. Worse thing is many do not support a USB keyboard. Even if I connect a USB wireless keyboard dongle and try to type anything in, nothing works or it tries to navigate instead. Again Netflix seems to be ane exception, I can actually type and navigate using a USB keyboard.

I use a Shield TV it's smaller and works better with an Harmony remote, and since it's Android it also has smaller service's streaming apps.

My new Samsung TV doesnt have a Twitch App so I use the PS5 for that every now and then. For everything else I just use the TV.

Parody of actual AJUMP23
The reason I don't do this is because I cannot get 120hz with my receiver pass through. It will pass through the 4k signal no issue but not the 120hz. I haven't even looked at what I would need to pay to upgrade to a receiver that could handle it.

I am getting a Onkyo TX-RZ50. They are super pricey, but there aren't a lot of options right now.

Media is pretty much the only use I get out of my Xbox One S. It's the smoothest, most capable media device I've ever had (keep in mind, I'm cheap, so I used to use a horrible Costco Sony Blu-Ray player, and then the cheapest Roku that I got for free, so my bar is low).
