Amazon DD Sales Thread

I love the sales Tony but sadly I'm strapped for cash right this minute (until sept) and most of these deals and packs contain games I already own. I would love some of the games in pack deals to have individual sales on them of some degree.

I would have bit on DKS so goddamn hard, if it wasn't on sale on steam the other day. You took too long! Also the game of thrones games are pretty much at the edge of my interest. 10$ for genesis? Hnnggg but poor

Please do some deep dirt cheapo deals on any of these?

Stronghold 3
Settlers 7 Gold
Anno 2070
Disciples 3 (both ones)
Risen 2
Confrontation
HOMM 6
King Arthur 2
dark souls
Dungeons
Skyrim
Legends of Pegasus

Another vote for Skyrim. My son desperately wants this on PC but I've told him not to blow $60 on it (since that's all he has).

I would buy these if they were SteamWorks:
Prince of Persia Adventure pack
Dead Space Dual Pack
Crysis 2 - Maximum Edition
Mass Effect 3
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl

It's too bad. I've picked up a lot of the Amazon SteamWorks deals that I wanted during the summer sale and this one. Amazon could make a killing if they offered SteamWorks versions of all their games. It is mostly likely Valve's fault for not offering serial keys for many titles.

Valve's fault? Absolutely not. Each individual publisher is responsible for making the decision as to whether or not distribute Steam keys for any of their non-Steamworks titles. (You're actually using the term Steamworks wrong: all games that are Steamworks can only be used through Steam; i.e., wherever you buy them, you'll always get a Steam key.)

You'll be hard-pressed to find EA or Ubisoft willingly distributing Steam keys of their games to third-party resellers simply because of the fact that Origin and Uplay are direct competitors to Steam.

I wasn't aware that the publisher have to request the keys. It is easy to look at sites like GreenManGames that sell Steam and other games and see which sell the most (not including those games that cost $1,99 and have a trade-in value of $0.50 or $1.00). I'm not sure why a publisher would not want their game on Steam, unless they are Origin or Ubisoft. But, saying that, I find Uplay pretty horrible and don't plan on buying Ubisoft games unless console version (Xbox 360) or from Steam. Also, I didn't know SteamWorks meant only Steam-based. I thought it was just an alternative form for saying the key activates on Steam.

What I don't understand is, why do new games from Ubisoft still release on Steam when they are trying to push Uplay? I thought they used Tages as an alternative DRM to Steam (i.e. the Ubisoft games from Impulse and GamersGate). I don't know what the state of Origin is, but I know I wouldn't begin investing in games on a system developed by EA. My only beef with Valve and Steam is that the customer support is absolutely terrible. Ever since I have had a pretty bad experience with Valve support, I have been giving my support to Amazon/GMG/GG/Impulse. One of the greatest things about Amazon is that they have a great representative in Tony that is willing to meet customers head-on. He sold Digital Downloads through Amazon, to me, that's for sure.

Because Steam has the market. So they make the games available on Steam, while making customers installing and using Uplay to access the game; then they start promoting things from inside Uplay itself.

It's basically Valve's strategy, which is making you install and use Steam to play Steamworks games no matter where you buy them from (retail or other DD stores). Then of course, the first thing you see when you open the Steam client by default is the storefront and announcement of new games/daily deals/weekly sales.

people, ea games redeem on origin and origin only

stop acting like origin is such a bad thing too, its not.

To be fair, not very many people have claimed otherwise here. Even though I personally prefer to use Steam whenever possible, Origin is just fine as a service. Also, Valve could learn a thing or two from EA's customer support.

For example, after I bought the EA Sports classics pack with NHL 09 and Madden 08 from Amazon a few days ago, my NHL 09 key wouldn't register correctly on Origin even though it did recognize it. I contacted EA's live support chat, and within 15 minutes the guy had not only successfully activated my NHL key, he also added Madden 08 onto my account even though the key for a game that old can't normally be activated on Origin. That's what I call good customer service.

The times I had to contact EA CS was really, really terrible

I could say the same about Steam. No live support at all, and their answers to support tickets come with a delay of many hours if not days, and eventually the answer tends to be a copypasted message which may or may not have anything to do with the problem you were describing in the first place.

With EA, it seems to depend on how good a support person you happen to catch on shift, but if you're lucky, it's just great.

Does anyone know if Assassins creed 2 deluxe is activable on uPlay? or it just uses uplay and I can't download from uplay? thanks!

I bought a steam game from Amazon and it ended up not working on my system. Amazon emailed me saying that they'll refund me, will steam actually remove the game too?

Yeah, I haven't had great Steam support experiences, but EA seems to get things wrong on many levels. You have to have the origin client installed to get support. I cancelled a preorder over a month before TOR came out and they still billed me for it. I contacted them and gave them all the confirmation numbers and they said they'd take care of it and never did and I wound up having to do a chargeback on my credit card.

You know you’re a gamer when…

Our Marketing Manager made a bet with 2K games that Amazon would sell a metric ton of Borderlands 2 at launch. Turns out he was right. The guys from 2K flew him out to New York and paid for him to get this awesome Claptrap tattoo from Luke Wessman at Wooster St. Social Club (the guys who do NY Ink). From Tony himself -“This game is absolutely amazing and I can’t think of any better way to celebrate it than carrying Claptrap around on my back.”

Using the 6.4 oz weight of the console versions, you only need to sell 5512 copies to achieve a metric ton. That was an easy bet, Tony.

That's not true. If you got an illegitimate key it can be deactivated.

To expand on this, Valve removing a key tied to your account will only happen in one of two situations:

1) You bought a key from somebody else and they, at some point, decide to be a dick, contacting Valve about it already being in use and succeed in having said key revoked (they'll have the requisite evidence of proof of purchase, after all), or

2) A publisher requests that keys intended for specific regions (e.g. Eastern European keys) be removed from the accounts of those who are clearly not in said regions, but this hasn't happened since Modern Warfare 2 (and even then not all such accounts were affected), with the approach nowadays being to exclude English and/or region-lock DLC (e.g. DLC bought outside of RU won't work with an RU copy)

I had my ROW copy of Dead island removed. I paid exactly $0 for it.

I didn't want to bother buying a USA copy because I feel like the developers owe me for experiencing that piece of shit.

If you go by CD weight, it's around 60k.

I think Tony wanted the tattoo, and he got it for free. Clever deal.

@ Tony

Any idea when Football Manager 2013 will be up for preorder? Crossing my fingers it's on sale for $29.99 on Day 1 again!

Did the 1C deal ever appear btw?

(Guessing this thread is the Amazon thread to use now that the last sale is over)

The most recent update on the matter, directly, is this (September 7th):

Hey guys,

Sorry for the lack of an update here. We're working on it but I don't know what the ETA is.

2 of the problems we're running into:

1. We need to figure out how to give our 60+ Steam keys AND the rest of the DRM free games without breaking stuff (right now it is breaking stuff), this would be 1 bundle - Steam + DRM free where Steam options don't exist.

2. We need to figure out how to give out all the games, line item by line item, without breaking stuff. Our Dev team thought they'd have a solution in place by Sunday, this didn't happen though (apparently programming is really hard).

I'll keep you guys updated.

Cheers,
Tony

The above was followed by this related update a handful of days later, which itself seemingly went ignored as nobody replied with suggestions (perhaps they were PM'd instead?) (September 12th):

Alright guys,

My dev team asked if I could try and put together a smaller bundle so we could kick the tires on exactly how much we can handle, and figure out where stuff might break.

To that end, I've been talking with Strategy First, who we carry like, 90 games for.

I want to break this list into a couple/few 25-30 game bundles and then price them at $12.49 each.

Here's the list. Give me your suggestions.

Also, where the games are on Steam, SFI has assured me we'll get Steam keys.

<large list of games>

Cheers,
Tony
