Amazon Forced me to Build a Steam Console

So Amazon keeps putting these Mini Ryzen PC's on sale and sticking them in my feed.. one hit an insane $130 which I could not even purchase the windows 11 license for so I bit knowing I'd find good use for it.
It's nothing fancy just a Ryzen 3550H with 16GB DDR and a 512GB SSD..

I immediately loaded Bazzite which was painless
It recognized my 8-Bit Do Ultimate 2 with the wireless dongle so no setup there (wish I had purchased the Xbox style as the switch style is throwing me off)

I expect it will be hit or miss with the actual steam games as it's less powerful than a Steam deck but if it's needed I can just stread from my gaming rig on high end games.
Emudeck installed, so awesome to have like 20K games!! on wait.. actually it sucks having 20K games .. I only want to play such a fraction of these.. going to wipe and replace with only the cream of the crop when I have time
was not expecting a lot on which system I'd pull off emulating but was amazed that GC, Wii and PS2 all ran without a hitch even with some upscaling to improve quality.

This was a fun little project and I've not yet seen how far I can push it .. but IMO this was $130 well spent.

Hmm I have a Beelink BE7 which is pretty powerful with I guess now what is the second best IGP out, the 780M. I tried it on my TV but bit screen is still a bit of a chore on Windows. I wonder if I should do this, but I'd have to wipe so many game installs.

I've got a handful of legit windows keys if you, or anyone else on GAF, ever needs one.

I own 1 and 3 on steam.. not sure why I don't own 2.. I will test it out tonight.

I would think the OG would run fine, it ran on shit 360 hardware and you are not emulating it. So yeah.

Also, for God's sake get 2. I know it's polarizing, but to me it's hub is best in the trilogy! Majula!

I REALLY want one of the newer AI Max Machines, but the price is off.. The 780M machines are in a much more reasonable range so I may end up upgrading once prices drop more.. my sons laptop has the radeon 6550M..paid $520 for that thing and it blows my mind how well it runs games.. he's maxing out fortnite and getting 180fps at 1440p and my desktop with a RTX 4060 (my 1080ti died and I desperately bought all I could afford at best buy) needs dlss to compete.

So I got them out of curiousity and really could not get into them.. but then Elden Ring came along and I finally got the swing of it.. so when time allows I'll return to all of them.

Well, start with the OG. Owned it since 360 launch in 2011, never got into it and was intimidated. Now it's easily one of my fav games ever made... ever

Need a minimum of a 780m chipset for PS3 and above. Unless you're running an external GPU via USB or Oculink.

You can get a bit more power by using newer versions prior to Strix Halo, but by that point prices are pretty steep.

I figured that to be the case.. I was actually kind of shocked that PS2 worked.

Can you share a link to the machine you got? I'm curious

Edit: also that final fantasy x you're running. Is that emulation or the native pc version?

DS3 is closest to ER, so you might have some luck there. But really ER brought in so many good changes that it might be hard to go back.

DS2 has its fans but for every one of those tbere's a me that just cannot like it despite trying many times.

Just bear in mind that the CPU part of these tiny Ryzen's is their strong point, so any sort of emulation that can lean hard on the software side is going to do well.

It should be a crime to post this with no link
Probably a targeted clippable coupon that's used up.

Here's one for $149 https://www.amazon.com/Getorli-Computers-Computer-Displays-Business/dp/B0FC6XQHXJ

I'd go for something with the 780M, it's more powerful than the Steam Deck so games that work should be fully playable at 1080p.

$379 for a Ryzen 8745HS 16GB DDR5 and 512GB NVME, it also has Oculink so you could use an external GPU with it.

For comparison the Ryzen 3550 is 4 core Zen+ and Vega 8 graphics PCIe gen 3, DDR4. So pre-Zen 2 architecture in the Steam Deck. The Ryzen 8745HS is 8 core Zen 4 with DDR5 and PCIe gen 4.

I saw a Minisforum mini PC on Amazon with all AMD hardware for $400. Doing some research on it, I could load Bazzite or even the Steam Deck/SteamOS image with little issues and have a pretty powerful Steam Machine. It's tempting but I want to look further into this before I jump in on this.
