So what do I do if my relatively new kindle screen was cracked? Pretty shitty as I just got two new books for it :\
My 1st gen Kindle is still going strong.
Do people still miss the buttons or is the touch screen swiping actually better? I think i'd miss the buttons, though when my fiancee is trying to sleep next to me the clicking can be a little annoying..
Is it worth upgrading?
any news about new Kindles for the holiday season?
My gf wants one, I found a Kindle for a good price, thinking about getting it, but not sure because maybe there is something new coming out soon and I dont know.
also, is the paperwhite worth the double of the price of the 'normal' kindle?
Goodreader reported a couple of times this fall that an all new model refresh was due this month.
well finally getting rid of my old Kindle and upgrading to the new Paperwhite for $75

Staples. If you do Visa Check out and add a $1 notebook so it totals to $100 then it goes down to 75Where is it $75? I wouldn't mind moving to the higher resolution screen. Though maybe I'll just hold off and make the jump to the Voyage instead.

Paperwhite by a wide margin.
Edit: congrats! Be sure to explore the weird indie books available on the Kindle store. There is some amazing stuff on there!
and did anyone buy the eBook for The Hunger Games? There's a new version/edition with the movie cover... Is there any actual difference for the Kindle Edition?
Amazon Brazil had a surprisingly great deal on Black Friday. Got a Kindle 7th gen for less than 40 euros, free shipping. This is just awesome, probably the cheapest price on earth.
Are you talking about the movie tie-in versions of the kindle editions? If so, there is no difference between them except for different artwork for the cover (and the price).
Amazon's running a massive eBook Cyber Monday sale. A few mainstream hits, lots of smaller oddities, and a ton of indie books.
You can also get 25-40% off a Kindle Unlimited subscription. The cheapest is $44 for 6 months.
hmm. is it still live? been wanting to upgrade to a sharper screen.
hmm yea that's one. the other one is Divergent. There's two edition, one plain? and one Collector's Edition.
Is that a deal or a special promotion with purchase?
any recommendations on books? (mainstream hits, etc)? I bought Harper Lee's Go Set a Watchmen
Just a normal deal, you don't need to buy anything else to get the kindle unlimited sale price. I was pretty happy with my six months I got around this time last year; lots of stuff to discover and a decent amount of classics that went the self published route.
I bought a ton of books off my wish list, but I can't recommend them because I haven't read them yet (books like Range of Ghosts, Inverted World, The Glass Bead Game). Haven't heard the best things about Go Set A Watchmen, but maybe you already know the context for the book.
Might already be registered to the Italian store. If that's the case, unregister it from there and re-register it to your U.S. account. It should work. Keep in mind, though, that I'm just making an assumption and have no actual experience switching from one country to another.I bought a Paperwhite yesterday too and should be arriving tomorrow. My Kobo mini kicked it a week ago so this offer came at the perfect time.
I do have a question however. I have an Amazon US account which I have used to buy games in the past, as well as books which I read on my smartphone using the Kindle app. Since I bought my Paperwhite from the Italian store, can I use it with my Amazon.com account? If yes, how?
Sorry for the stupid question but this my first Kindle device.

You cannot have books from both accounts simultaneously, as far as I know.

New kindle firmware update. Gives a new home screen look:

How does this look without the ads? Just curious. I infinitely prefer Kobo's interface, but this looks interesting, but way too ad-riddled.

When can we expect a refresh of the different models, and what kind of features are expected to be added?

Got an email about a big firmware update coming.
I updated my Voyage. Is it possible to hide the progress percentage and page location in the bottom left corner? I had them hidden prior to updating the firmware and can't figure out how to hide them again.
Is this the general Books OT?
I don't see any rumors of new Kindle devices anywhere.
I wouldn't expect many updates for e-Ink devices from here on out.
Hard to predict now. Amazon did not update the Voyage last year and they quietly released the Paperwhite update in June 2015 instead of the Fall. The Fire models are still getting yearly updates, though.
I don't think there are any resolution upgrades for eInk even in the works. The frontlights are all pretty stellar. eInk seems to be shifting their focus to different applications outside e-readers. So I don't know that contrast increases are a priority or if they can even do much more, but the Carta screens launched with Kindles without any previous announcement. So who know? And I don't think color eInk will ever be a thing. Amazon would have to go with a different tech. Amazon could improve hardware elements like adding back in audio, but I think most people are content with using that on their phones and tablets.
That really just leaves performance and memory improvements, which are so minor to the consumer that Amazon would just do quiet updates.
Thanks guys. Seems like now's a good time to buy~
Press on it to toggle it, eventually it will turn off.
Just got a Voyage and I love it, it's crazy light, I feel like I need a case just to add some heft to it.
It took several minutes of finagling, but I got it. Thanks!
I use this case and think it's great. It adds a bit of heft to it, protects the device, can be used a stand, and is easy to use.
Do you use the stand often? I really can't see myself doing that
Here and there. I use it primarily because it adds a nice protective layer that's easy to clean, and place and remove from the device.
