Amazon to buy MGM studios

kruis

Exposing the sinister cartel of retailers who allow companies to pay for advertising space.
Amazon vs. Disney, who's gonna buy up more shit?

Apple. That company has a huge warchest and a streaming service without a back catalog. I bet they're eagerly looking to buy a Hollywood major with a huge movie library.

Amazon now owns the distribution for James Bond. That is HUGE.

I wonder if EON will allow them to stream No Time to Die?

Tag, you're it.
Maybe you can copy/paste some part of the article next time? Something like that:

"An agreement could be announced as early as this week, people close to the situation said, assuming the talks don’t fall apart at the last minute.
The deal would mark Amazon’s second-largest acquisition in history, behind its $13.7 billion deal for Whole Foods in 2017, and highlight the premium that content is commanding as streaming wars force consolidation and drive bigger players to bulk up with assets that help them compete.
The privately traded MGM was valued around $5.5 billion, including debt, last December. Its stock price has soared in recent days, from about $105 a share in mid-May, before talks were reported, to roughly $140 a share Monday morning."

Create a thread just for the sake of it with just the source is lazy at best imo

Question: if all these media companies merge, will they more willing or less willing to respond to criticism and feedback from its audience?

Sometimes I wonder what happened to the once so powerful and feared antitrust divisions that used to challenge the ones of Microsoft back in the day, then I remember how the world turned mostly into an oligarchy after the turn of the millennium.

I feel this is just about the bragging rights and maybe the ability to plunder IP for remakes. I can't believe there are a lot of folks subscribing to a streaming service just to watch old movies.

I'm really curious what this does to the DVD market. As streamers lock down studio catalogues I bet they start pinching off physical disc production and maybe even purchase rights on other services. But if they do, I'm flabbergasted that the government doesn't see this as limiting access and clear monopolistic maneuvering.

If amazon does get ahold of the new bond, I gotta think they will try the "premium access" upcharge that D+ does, no way a quarter billion dollar.movie goes to streaming for "free".
