Amazon to Netflix: Check.

If people are complaining about Netflix's selection, why are they parroting this as a huge win for Amazon when it's just a bunch of shit Netflix already has?

ever since Netflix raised prices and split DVD and Streaming to seperate things, some people have been at war with Netflix and have been praying for it's demise. Consumers posted everywhere about them cancelling and Analysts claimed it was over for Netflix, etc, and 6 months later they're almost back to where they were in the US before the price hike, and they've also been expanding like mad in the rest of the world.

tbh, their prime streaming service is still WAY WAY WAY behind Netflix in usability.

Amazon desperately needs a queue system like Netflix if nothing else; using their current set-up is a frustrating pain in the ass. I should be able to go straight to a series I've been watching and pick up where I left off, rather than going through the damn search menu every time. Stupid.

Yep. More deals are nice, but Netflix is a lot easier to use and available on a lot more devices.

I've been an Amazon Prime customer since February of 2010, but I rarely use their video service.

Until Amazon is on literally every device that is connected to the internet with a screen, like Netflix is, then none of this matters.

Question; for the 50% off for students Amazon Prime, can I share that with my family like regular Amazon Prime? I know the free-Student Prime cannot be shared, but it also doesn't include Amazon Prime Videos, but with the 50% off one, I'm still paying $40, it does include Video streaming, so I'm hoping I can also share it?
I don't really know the answer to your specific question as related to student accounts. I do know that I share my regular Prime account with some family members, but they don't have access to the free video streaming. Shared accounts pretty much only get the shipping benefits as far as I know.

Amazon Prime Instant Video (god what a terrible name) won't be relevant to me until you get an app on WP7 and iOS, Bezos.

I knew that much, just wasn't sure if I could share the shipping benefits at all, but thank you anyway.

Amazon(Hulu and Netflix as well) streaming is great on my Smart TV sold my aging game consoles
it's great not to have a bunch of random ass black boxes in my entertainment center

I'm a Prime member already so any added value would be great. If this comes to Xbox and PS3 I'm cancelling my Netflix service.

Either way, I recently bought a small form factor PC so I can pretty much access everything from my main home theater.
You can stream ZERO movies in HD or with surround sound on a PC. You're forced to purchase a STB, Blu-Ray player, or TV that supports Amazon Prime. Netflix also disables HD on PC for a lot of content. It's the dumbest restriction imaginable. TV series can be streamed in HD on PCs, due to some unknown distinction.

But it stil desperately needs an instant queue. The app works well on Roku, but it sucks I have to search for a show each time I want to watch it (for example, the multi-part documentary about New York I'm watching).
I use the Wish List as a ghetto queue.

I got a Kindle Fire for Christmas and used up the free month VOD service already (Prime for students).

Debating if this is worth upgrading to at the $39/year price...

Amazon: "oh shit, I thought we were playing checkers."

Content is only half the battle, delivery is just as important and Netflix has them easily trumped in that regard so far. I can glance at my entertainment center and see three devices that can stream Netflix.

So I was reading the terms on the Amazon Prime Student and came across this:

We may send you promotions or otherwise communicate with you electronically via e-mail, and you hereby consent to receive those communications, regardless of requests you may have indicated on the https://www.amazon.com/?tag=neogaf0e-20 Web site or by any other means. If you would like to stop receiving e-mail notifications from Amazon Student, you must cancel your Amazon Student membership, which you may do here: Manage Your Student Membership.

For you students who have this...how bad is that "spam"?? And do normal accounts get this spam as well.

It's like once a week. Can't unsubscribe to it either.

Uhhh VH1 and MTV? That doesn't sound good to me

Comedey Central, TV Land, and Nickelodeon? I'm okay with that.

I've seen a lot of Comedy Central, TV Land, and Nickelodeon shows on Instant Netflix already. Wouldn't mind streaming some old music videos though.

That's what mtvmusic.com is for! You will probably get all of the seasons of the real world, road rules and the dreaded jersey shore.

And if you got to VH1 and VH1 Classics site you can watch 3/4 of the Behind the Musics. So what exactly is Amazon offering the shitty reality shows lol

I have a prime account and somehow entirely missed until earlier today that there was a streaming service. Honestly, if it had an Xbox app I'd probably cancel Netflix.

Only thing I'd be interested in is Chappelle’s Show and I've already watched the first season of that on Netflix.

Avatar: The Last Airbender, Dora the Explorer, iCarly, and Yo Gabba Gabba. We’re adding comedy with titles like Chappelle’s Show, The Sarah Silverman Program, Strangers with Candy, and Hot in Cleveland. And we’re adding reality TV with several past seasons of The Real World, Basketball Wives, and Jersey Shore.

Most, if not all, are already on Netflifx. Good for Amazon though.

The cheap cheap rokus are generally sold out and only sold by merchants with expensive shipping. Better to just get the cheapest roku 2.

I have the roku 2 XS (I can play angry birds woo!), and one of the reasons of getting it was amazon on demand alongside HBO Go. Amazon on Demand quality is great. Video and audio quality seems much better than netflix. However the Amazon on Demand app has terrible organization. It doesn't save the shows you watch like Netflix does, plus it splits shows into individual seasons and doesn't bundle them all together.

The service is great for purchased content or rentals because this is neatly organized, but their on demand functionality needs to be a lot better. Until Amazon beefs this part up I'll continue to use Netflix.

I use AirPlay mirroring to watch Hulu Plus on my Apple TV and I love it. The image is smaller on the tv but once you zoom in it is the perfect size on our 40". I would love for there to be an official app but for now this works and I don't have to pay Comcast for cable.

Does AirPlay work with Hulu Plus now? I know they'd been intentionally not including that feature...if it's back in I'm probably going to re-sub to Hulu+ begrudgedly.

Well the Roku LT ($49) is actually available on Roku's website now (with no tax and free shipping). It actually may be a better buy than the Roku 2 HD ($59, the cheapeast Roku 2 model) because the LT has 256MB RAM while the HD has 128MB RAM.

Um unless I am insane Netflix has all of these already.

Can't you just use the mirror option and mirror everything on your iPad? Nothing is blocked when you do that I believe.

Emails are usually once a month. Most of them are promotions to win stuff on facebook if you LIKE them.

I've actually been tempted to get Amazon Prime, especially with the student half off price. My Panasonic TV actually has Amazon VOD and all I would need is an ethernet cable to take advantage of the service. I'm still thinking about it, but I will probably sign up for this.

Until I can watch it via my Xbox, PS3 or iPad, it's still pretty useless for me. I've only used it to watch Downton Abbey Season 1 "Uncut" which was added to Netflix as well.
