Amazon to Netflix: Check.

Question: is there a Roku (or similar device) that also lets you tune in digital OTA channels? Because if so, that's probably the "drop cable" tipping point for me.

You still would need an external antenna, which would be on a different input on your TV - you already have everything you need.

Boxee Box just added this last month. It's quite good.

Unfortunately for an unknown reason, read: Greed by Boxee or Amazon, Amazon Instant Videos are not an option to watch on Boxee Box.

Doesn't Netflix already have all of these?

We’re adding something for the family with Nickelodeon favorites like Avatar: The Last Airbender, Dora the Explorer, iCarly, and Yo Gabba Gabba. We’re adding comedy with titles like Chappelle’s Show, The Sarah Silverman Program, Strangers with Candy, and Hot in Cleveland. And we’re adding reality TV with several past seasons of The Real World, Basketball Wives, and Jersey Shore.
I was curious myself and checked Netflix, and I found that The Real World and Strangers with Candy are not on Netflix.

A lot of stuff they're bringing on Amazon you can already see on Netflix, and on more electronic devices. I don't how this could be a check.

I don't think I'll be canceling my netflix. I love using it on the consoles and my family uses it as well. My free student prime is running out this month so I'll definitely be paying the 39 bucks. I get my moneys worth in shipping alone. Plus they added the kindle library thing. There's another bonus.

Yeah, so unless you're a HUGE Amy Sedaris fan, there's really no reason for any Netflix users to switch to Amazon.

I have Prime for other reasons. No reason you can't have both really even if on the prime instant videos side they're a little redundant with Netflix. Amazon just needs to get on more devices.

I guess the Blu-ray player I'm shopping for needs to be able to stream from Amazon. Because I can see myself going over in the future.

They really need to get an app on PS3 and 360.

Yup, and they need to improve the web interface. Even the app built into my Samsung TV is a joke.

Is there a Queue or "favorites" list for Amazon Instant? I couldn't ever find one.

So, what you are saying is I can watch Flavor of Love on Amazon Prime soon?

I was hoping Sony and Amazon would work something out for a PS3 app, but that didn't come to fruition in time, so I just went ahead and bought the Roku 2XS. The Amazon content works wonderfully on the Roku. Honestly, I bought it primarily to watch my NBA subscription in HD, since Comcrap on has 1 freaking HD channel devoted to the NBA league pass subscription. Now I've cut them out of the equation and get a really good looking feed for all the games I want to see.

Sorry, tried Prime streaming and just wasn't feeling it. Not as ubiquitous (yet) on media devices, clunky UI, and still lags in content. I have hope they will keep progressing but Netflix for now is still tops.

You might just have to get an indoor OTA antenna. An OTA antenna and something like the Roku LT might be the best of both worlds (although admittedly not an elegant solution depending on the size of the antenna).

I'm sure someone here on GAF can help you find a good antenna to buy (I'm not too familiar myself).

You can also check this website to see how the reception will be in your area:

It's been said, but until they add Xbox 360 and iPad support, this doesn't do a whole lot for me. One or the other of those, however, and I'll strongly consider jumping ship (less expensive, plus the added shipping and Kindle perks).

AppleTV would actually get me to take a look at it. If Hulu was offered on AppleTV or even streamable through the iPad and AirPlay'd to the AppleTV I'd be happy.

Not holding my breath, though.

I use AirPlay mirroring to watch Hulu Plus on my Apple TV and I love it. The image is smaller on the tv but once you zoom in it is the perfect size on our 40". I would love for there to be an official app but for now this works and I don't have to pay Comcast for cable.

Title made me think Amazon was coming to consoles. Don't think we get this in Canada anyway. Amazon sucks here compared.

Isn't the cost of programming an app for consoles basically nothing compared to the cost of the streaming rights for all their content? It doesn't make sense to me why they haven't done it already.

Let's see... $79 a year, so that comes out to about $6.68 a month, a little over a month cheaper than netflix.

Not bad, but I'm not a fan of having to pay for Amazon's video service in a one-year chunk. What happens if I'm six months in and decide I've had enough of it?

Well, you still get free two day shipping

Apple might not let them or they might not want to because it competes directly with iTunes content. I believe that is one of the reasons why the Hulu Plus app for Apple Tv is in limbo, I remember reading a while ago that a Hulu Plus app was ready and waiting on Apple for release.

I find Prime Instant has a better selection of PBS than Netflix.

But it stil desperately needs an instant queue. The app works well on Roku, but it sucks I have to search for a show each time I want to watch it (for example, the multi-part documentary about New York I'm watching).

I have been off cable since October.

Been watching on Netflix and streaming from network sites like NBC and Fox. Little known fact.

We kept our cable internet, and because of that we still get channels 1-24 through our cable connection in HD.

So stuff like Law and Order, House, Kitchen Nightmares, my wifes shows like the Voice, American Idol, etc. and Supernatural we still get.

It's been glorious and I've been eating through my backlog of TV shows I missed like a rabid dog.

I've already killed a bunch of anime series (Gurren Lagan) and some shows I missed out on when they were out (re-watched all of DS9 and currently re-watching Enterprise).

I will stand by this statement:

There is NO reason why in 2012 every network and cable tv channel shouldn't have HD streaming of every show in their lineup available 24 hours a day.

I don't really get why Amazon has been a bit closed off about their instant streaming.

Support Android because of Fire/Amazon App store?

Only thing I can think of.

Either way, I recently bought a small form factor PC so I can pretty much access everything from my main home theater.

And Roku with Amazon Instant support is $99.00 if I ever really feel it's necessary on my other TV's.

Have yet to do anything but browse around looking for boobies with it at this point.

edit:

We just wrapped up another deal — this time bringing in content from MTV, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, TV Land, and VH1 — to add 2,000 new titles to Prime Instant Video. Together with the existing movies and shows from CBS, Fox, Disney-ABC, PBS, NBC, Sony, and Warner Bros., we now offer, at no additional cost, unlimited instant streaming of more than 15,000 titles.

We’re adding something for the family with Nickelodeon favorites like Avatar: The Last Airbender, Dora the Explorer, iCarly, and Yo Gabba Gabba. We’re adding comedy with titles like Chappelle’s Show, The Sarah Silverman Program, Strangers with Candy, and Hot in Cleveland. bolded on Netflix right now.

Are you willing to sit through commercials while watching?

Netflix works on my phone, my console, my ds, ps3, and more importantly, it works where I live. Your move, Amazon.

Will probably get the half off prime account once my student prime expires this month.

Question; for the 50% off for students Amazon Prime, can I share that with my family like regular Amazon Prime? I know the free-Student Prime cannot be shared, but it also doesn't include Amazon Prime Videos, but with the 50% off one, I'm still paying $40, it does include Video streaming, so I'm hoping I can also share it?
