AMD is increasing GPU prices by 10% due to AI demand

I'm starting to think PS6 won't be out before 2028, the PS5 Pro already took 1 more year to come this gen than PS4 Pro did last one also.

Actually i wonder if we'll see the Playstation Portable in late 2027, and then the PS6 in late 2028, doesn't sound like a bad strategy i guess?

I would not be surprised if Sony and MS were considering delaying these consoles to avoid the price increases caused by the AI boom.

A lot of people right now (not me):

That is because it's not because of AI.
It's because AI servers are buying out all the memory from the market.
The result is that everything using dram will increase prices. Even Xiaomi recently stated that they expect smartphone prices to increase soon.
So unless there is a crash with the AI market soon enough, prices for everything will increase. That means GPUs, consoles, smartphones, cars, TVs, tablets, etc.
Hell, even HDD prices are expected to go up because all the major hyperscalers are buying them up in bulk to store training data and all the crap generated by AI.

There was a statement made recently by OpenAI or MS (don't remember) that there was more data generated by AI during the last couple of years vs all data created before then.

So yeah, if you are thinking of building/buying a PC, PC components, consoles, or other tech that utilizes flash memory or any sort of storage in the next year, buy it during this Black Friday.

Can't wait...
Thing is once it pops we will get a pretty brutal recession, most likely worldwide. Think when tech bubble popped in 2000 and it's likely to be worse.

And also, all the big players will survive, it's the startups that will go south since VC money will dry up. That includes OpenAI, Anthropic and most of that ecosystem. And that will get bought up by the megaCorps on the cheap.

AI itself, much like the Internet, won't go away. But for regular folks, life will be crappier due to recession, and 401k/pensions taking a huge hit (market took 10+ years to recover after 2000 and then 2008 shocks).

Anyway, it's all kind of depressing.

They will either completely enshitfy the product (put a lot of guardrails, drastically increase prices etc) or cut capabilities to something more sustainable.

But I wouldn't be surprised if OpenAI or Anthropic went bankrupt and Microsoft acquired what is left of them.

Yep, the tech will get bought up by the mega corps. The effect on regular people though will be felt in all kinds of ways.

Lisa Su became the CEO of AMD 11 years ago. Below is the company's stock price over the last 10 years.

As you can see, she is clearly running the company into the ground.

If the time extends far enough there'll be a crash in everything. AI demand will fall off and previous customers will have given up and moved onto other hobbies or pursuits leaving these companies with enormous amounts of unsold product and nobody willing to buy it.

I've resolved to sit tight, keep my gear as it is and enjoy a large back catalog of steam and retro games. I have no plans to feed into this insanity. The steam deck and Odin 2 have taught me that you don't need cutting edge, ultra-powered hardware to enjoy games and so called "outdated" tech has a much longer life than we often grant it.

Do you understand what the word consistently means?

And are you really choosing a sarcastic wow to characterise the 8,321% increase in the company's stock price since Su's tenure began? Why?
Do you understand what "while" means? At the same time they are hiking GPU prices, the stock is consistently falling.
