I tried using a dual RX 9070 rig. Text generation was surprisingly fast, almost on par with NVIDIA cards, but the prompt processing was like 2 to 5 times slower, depending on context length. Switching from Vulkan to ROCm (when it was finally updated) didn't help at all.Who the hell uses an AMD card for AI?
Don't tell the wife she's 4th on your list.Fuck AI.
Fuck nvidia.
Fuck AMD.
Now I am off to fuck my wife.
Peace out.
I'm starting to think PS6 won't be out before 2028, the PS5 Pro already took 1 more year to come this gen than PS4 Pro did last one also.
Actually i wonder if we'll see the Playstation Portable in late 2027, and then the PS6 in late 2028, doesn't sound like a bad strategy i guess?
Hell, even HDD prices are expected to go up because all the major hyperscalers are buying them up in bulk to store training data and all the crap generated by AI.That is because it's not because of AI.
It's because AI servers are buying out all the memory from the market.
The result is that everything using dram will increase prices. Even Xiaomi recently stated that they expect smartphone prices to increase soon.
So unless there is a crash with the AI market soon enough, prices for everything will increase. That means GPUs, consoles, smartphones, cars, TVs, tablets, etc.
Thing is once it pops we will get a pretty brutal recession, most likely worldwide. Think when tech bubble popped in 2000 and it's likely to be worse.![]()
Can't wait...
AI itself, much like the Internet, won't go away. But for regular folks, life will be crappier due to recession, and 401k/pensions taking a huge hit (market took 10+ years to recover after 2000 and then 2008 shocks).
Yep, the tech will get bought up by the mega corps. The effect on regular people though will be felt in all kinds of ways. They will either completely enshitfy the product (put a lot of guardrails, drastically increase prices etc) or cut capabilities to something more sustainable.
But I wouldn't be surprised if OpenAI or Anthropic went bankrupt and Microsoft acquired what is left of them.
If you want a 9070xt they're 450 at very. Nows the time to pull the trigger
My exact reaction.
I haven't seen one that cheap. Cheapest I saw was the Powercolor Hellhound at $629US on Amazon, and I pulled the trigger on that.
That's in pounds sterling with a 20% discount they are currently offering. But yeah nows the time to buy anything GPU related.
UK prices always include tax. But yeah £450 for this card is fantastic.Ahhh. Ok yeah that makes sense then lol. I was over here like "damn this guys a wizard." Lol

Before that it was due to crypto mining....Excuse after excuse
First tariffs and now AI
Good guy AMD: increasing GPU prices while consistently lowering their stock price.
And they all report "record profits" each time"Shortage"

Gee, what's that at the end there?![]()
Consistently, huh?
If the time extends far enough there'll be a crash in everything. AI demand will fall off and previous customers will have given up and moved onto other hobbies or pursuits leaving these companies with enormous amounts of unsold product and nobody willing to buy it.That is because it's not because of AI.

Do you understand what "while" means? At the same time they are hiking GPU prices, the stock is consistently falling.Do you understand what the word consistently means?
And are you really choosing a sarcastic wow to characterise the 8,321% increase in the company's stock price since Su's tenure began? Why?

My 5070ti arrives Thursday along with a 4k oled expensive monitor. I'll be going from 2016 1440p monitor and a 3070 so I'm genuinely excited to see the difference.Doubly so if you're upgrading from an older card. I'm excited to see the performance difference between my 2080 Super and the new 9070 XT.

I've resolved to sit tight, keep my gear as it is and enjoy a large back catalog of steam and retro games. I have no plans to feed into this insanity. The steam deck and Odin 2 have taught me that you don't need cutting edge, ultra-powered hardware to enjoy games and so called "outdated" tech has a much longer life than we often grant it.
I'm thinking more of AMD here. They've already hitched their financial future to the AI bubble through their openAI stock deals. If things don't work out the way they hope they could find themselves in genuine trouble before the end of the decade.OpenAI is risking making gamers hate them. I wouldn't want to risk being hated by gamers![]()

The wave already hitting prebuilt manufacturers.
You're in the US? You can order a 9070XT from Newgg for $599. Then add in the PayPal Pay in 4 promo for 20% cash back to make it $480.I seriously looked at a 5070ti, but that 9070XT at $629 was too good a deal to pass up.
Share some impressions when you get it. I also still rock a 2080 super and I'm curious what kind of jump a 9070xt will provide. The thing in my case is that I have a gsync monitor that I don't want to get rid of and that ties me to nvidia, unfortunately.Doubly so if you're upgrading from an older card. It literally is as simple as I explained. Don't muddy the waters with that crap.Learn how micro and macroeconomics works first.
