The chipmaker has notified its partners of its latest price increase, which affects its entire product lineup. UDN reports that AMD has now issued the notification to its partners and is expected to raise the prices by at least 10%.

Memory prices continue to rise, leading to a significant increase in graphics card costs. Industry sources indicate that AMD, the second-largest graphics card manufacturer, has notified its partners of a second price increase across its entire product line, with the increase estimated to be at least 10%.

Stand by my sentiment that if you want a GPU, console or any components to build a system...now is the time before it gets worse next year.

I can still see on Newegg the exact GPUs I recommended to a friend sitting at MSRP, cheaper than they were a year ago, and likely cheaper than they will be next year.

Even RAM if you look hard enough for old stock or from less RGB-laden manufacturers like Crucial or Kingston, you can still get something good without your wallet hating you.

Excuse after excuse

First tariffs and now AI

Fuckers need to stop beating around the bush, and just be honest (i.e. "we're greedy bastards, and want to bleed poor people dry")

I'd have more respect for that, than the stupid BS they keep trying to spin.

Don't hate AMD because they're greedy, hate them because they are incompetent. They can't build a competitive GPU even with Nvidia uninterested in the market, so they have even less ability to absorb NAND price increases. Get those BF sales on the 9070 XT while you can, this week is the last hurrah at these prices.

Who the hell uses an AMD card for AI?

Article:
SAN FRANCISCO, Oct 6 (Reuters) - AMD (AMD.O), opens new tab will supply artificial intelligence chips to OpenAI in a multi-year deal that would bring in tens of billions of dollars in annual revenue and give the ChatGPT creator the option to buy up to roughly 10% of the chipmaker. Shares of the chipmaker surged more than 34% on Monday, putting them on track for their biggest one-day gain in over nine years and adding roughly $80 billion to the company's market value.

Saving up for a new high end PC. $2100 so far. I'm waiting til I hit around $4000 and then I'm getting myself the fucking Bat-Computer. I see what's coming and I'd rather buy a monster rig while I still can, and last me the next 10 years.

AMD doesn't sell memory chips, AIBs are sourcing those according to AMD's spec.

All these news about GPUs getting price increases "soon" so far seem like retail trying to capitalize on FOMO by introducing the good old FUD into the messaging.
Doesn't mean that it won't happen but so far the GPUs have in fact been getting cheaper in retail.

So I'm in the market for a new gaming capable laptop, but I was gonna hold off till next year. I'm guessing I may as well get it now because shits gonna be fucked for the next few years.

Pretty much. If you're in the market for a new PC or components now is the time to buy.

I have a 5090 and a 5070 TI and 64 gb ram in both pc's, and i'm very glad I don't have to deal with this stuff atm.

Godspeed, PC builders!
Get to work asap or wait a year or two I guess.

All im gonna say is- just like i said when price of ps5pr0 got officially announced-brace for 999$ ps6(at least including discdrive, discless its not gonna be cheaper from 800$), pc gpu's obviously gonna be pricey af too, across the board coz we gonna need more vram for next gen, likely 20-24gigs in 6070/ti/6080range already.

Pc crowd(myself included, rip :messenger_astonished: )is already somehow conditioned to fork up nasty premium prices for their highend(not only topend, highend too) gpu's, but most console owners are in that 400-500$ territory still(ps5pr0 sells rather poorly, below ps4pr0, and no wonder- big price jump for small perf jump so makes sense).

At least here on GAF we are somewhat aware and can prepare/save few hundo bucks, since we know we still got 2 more years to next gen launch, casual gamers tho- after they see next gen prices they gonna be crying helplessly like 30yo+ women after they realised they hit the wall :P

That is because it's not because of AI.
It's because AI servers are buying out all the memory from the market.
The result is that everything using dram will increase prices. Even Xiaomi recently stated that they expect smartphone prices to increase soon.
So unless there is a crash with the AI market soon enough, prices for everything will increase. That means GPUs, consoles, smartphones, cars, TVs, tablets, etc.
