AMD is increasing GPU prices by 10% due to AI demand

I cannot recommend strongly enough that everyone grab a backup GPU! Doesn't have to be expensive! Just something that will run modern games. Grab a 7700xt off Facebook marketplace as soon as you can. The price you see on it today is the lowest it will be for at least 6 years. My plan it to get as much AMD raster as I can for $300. It's going to get uglier than anyone can imagine when it comes to hardware prices. This time next year we're probably talking about game streaming services.

And not just GPUs, phones, tablets, PCs, laptops, game consoles.
This is the only hope for PC gaming. If game consoles stay cheap and PC gaming goes way up then the PC gaming revolution will be stopped in its tracks.

If Sony or Nintendo are able to do bulk buying power or eat costs and keep prices cheap for consoles, then what does that do to PC gaming when prices are thru the roof?

Sony is actually lowering their prices this black friday, for example. Would you recommend someone buy a new gaming PC right now or just get a PS5 for cheap on black friday?

Gaming PC brings user mods which is the biggest and best competitive advantage, but there is an upper price limit for entry that will exclude a lot of gamers.

It would be sad if the future of gaming was weak PCs with streaming.

It's not like the rest of normal American life will be the same and GPUs are just 5x the price. There's going to be a squeeze on every aspect of our expected standard of living. We're seeing it in other places already, if anything gaming is lagging behind. A regular ass Honda Civic is $35,000 now. Gaming hobby prices are where they were when you could get a fully loaded Type R for $35,000. That car is now in the mid 50s. $60 AAA games and $300 current gen GPUs are holdouts from a completely different economic era.

Everyone thinking consoles are getting a pass on this reality will be quite shocked when the "PS6" is announced and explained. Sony just chalked a billion dollars on bad software development management, and you think they're going to excitedly take a loss on hardware?

They have the profit margins to managed the increase though. If the PS6 is $600 at launch, that's a win for gamers. If they instead launch at $700 or more......then yeah that'll suck. :messenger_crying:

How do you think it could be $600 at launch? Less flops and memory than a 5 Pro? I don't even think that is bordering on realistic. The parts PS6 will use exist today and there's nothing on the market that can conform to those requirements.

The PS5 Pro was made and priced to make good profit day one. The PS6 won't be the same. Or at least it shouldn't be priced to be profitable day one. Plus the PS6 is rumored to come out Holiday 2027, so let check back on prices March of 2027.

Just bought a 9070 XT today for $672 in Denmark, which is an amazing price here. Bet I could keep it in the box and make a buck in 2026

I haven't heard anything about Nintendo, but supposedly Sony has some RAM supplies in stock so they can ride out a a few months market shock. But we'll really just have to see where the dust settles.

SK Hynix's RAM production capacity is booked through December.... 2026. Supposedly they, and Samsung are building new lines but that takes time. Then there's the need for all the raw materials increases, etc.

So like I said, if you want electronics in the next year. Buy them ASAP. We'll see what things look like in another year. But new predictions are that AI is going to have a big crash through all of 2026. So things will likely be worse for a very long time.
