AMD RDNA 3 & RDNA 4 GPU Rumors For Next-Gen Radeon RX Series Graphics Cards: Higher Prices, Higher Performance, 2H 2022 Launch​

MLID starts straight off by talking about the performance estimates and we have had several of those for a while now. We have seen previous rumors claiming a performance increase of up to 2.5x for RDNA 3 over RDNA 2 and MLID states that AMD was always targeting greater than 50% performance increase over the Radeon RX 6900 XT graphics card with its RDNA 3 architecture.

He states that he is confident that AMD will be able to achieve a performance improvement of 60% at a minimum but also states that theoretical top performance and real-world performance aren't the same things. This is MLID basically talking about that 2.5x improvement figure from earlier and that it could be based on a certain simulation or workload. The average performance improvement may change in the final silicon though several leakers are still confident about RDNA 3 hitting that 2-2.5x performance increase over RDNA 2.

It is also mentioned that like RDNA 2, the top RDNA 3 SKU has changed a lot over the last few years. This means that the product has seen several variations but the development and mass production of V-Cache chiplet stacking technology has improved the confidence of the team building the next-gen GPU in regards to its performance. Another interesting thing listed in the rumor is that RDNA 3 is expected to bring a big efficiency & ray-tracing performance increase while also simultaneously upping the power demand on the high-end models.

In a speculative performance/pricing chart, it can be seen that the RX 7700 XT being as fast as the GeForce RTX 3090 for $599 US.

Without a genuine DLSS competitor, +60% will only barely make them competitive with the then 2 old 3XXX's in supporting titles (and not even across the board, the $399 3060Ti has a a more than 300% advantage over the $380 6600XT in some Raytraced DLSS'd titles). Also of note their "mainstream high end" cards (not the stupid Titan class stuff) are targeting $1000 for RDNA3 and $1200 for RDNA4. I told y'all PC gaming was dead and the $5,000 PC was no longer a meme.

For lower prices than the direct competitor, it’s worth it. Better Raytracing will me more of a factor here.
 
That's some high TDP. I guess it's to be expected without major node shrinks. I severly doubt we'll see mid gen console refreshes this gen.

Very interested in the MCM chip designs. I wouldn't be personally getting one of the 40 series/RDNA3 cards, but can't wait to see how they stack up against each other. Prices creeping up is also a concern.

I think next gen will be more crazy and power hungry. I expect 300-400W PSU inside the box.

Is it really that crazy that a new generation of consoles would perform better than a GPU that came out several months before the release of the previous generation?

It's not like people were going "Holy shit, this thing is faster than a GTX 780!" when PS5 came out.

I don't know what's up with the drivers narrative. The 5000 series was complete dumpster when it came to drivers, 5700 XT specifically. But with the 6000 series, the drivers haven't been nuclear like with the previous gen.
 
Going by that chart, expect 40 - 50 TF 10th-gen consoles if they want to stay in the $400/$500 price brackets.

And probably expect them around 2027 or 2028 (at the latest).

Not too crazy; 3090-tier rasterization perf should be in APU-level designs by 2027 for AMD going by that chart and expectation of 1.5 - 2 year intervals between new RDNA gens for AMD (also take into consideration they could ditch RDNA in the near future and do a whole new thing, which could create a bit of a setback with release schedules).

The GPU component for the past few gens IIRC has never costed Sony and Microsoft more than $100 of the BOM,, usually more into the upper double-digits. GPU card manufacturers probably sell at MSRP 2x (at minimum) it costs them to actually manufacture the board, and that includes the memory. So I tend to like halving the MSRPs and taking off maybe $40 - $50 for memory at most, then take off a few bucks for the PCB and fan cooling, the packaging (that's probably like $1 - $2 at most) and there you go.

Of course that could be offset by what node process they choose for the GPU and its relative cost; IMO you don't need anything more than 3nm EUV (or whatever that's specifically called for 3nm if I have it wrong) to get > RTX 3090 performance (which would be the "sweet spot" for 4K120 and, with additional technologies/features of later GPUs by that point, have much superior upscaling capabilities with vastly reduced performance costs) at a power budget roughly equivalent to the current-gen systems (which are actually just a tad more power-hungry than the 8th-gen console refreshes were at peak load), and die size similar to current-gen as well if not a bit smaller (better density and such).

Plus 3nm EUV would have the advantage of being very mature, not in as much contention from other companies like Apple nabbing up most of the fabs, and be a lot more affordable. Its price for the performance can't be beat by smaller nodes for 10th-gen systems that want to stay at consumer-friendly MSRPs.

They don't really need a genuine DLSS competitor if XeSS turns out okay, but regardless we should still be getting FSR 1.X or 2.x that may or may not use machine learning as well.

Only +50%? Hmm expect more from gpus launching in 365 days.

Navi 31 should be >2.5x the performance of the RX 6900XT. It has two WGP chiplets with up to 50% more ALUs each, both of which placed on top of a 256MB SRAM die. It's a ~60 TFLOPs monster with 512MB total Infinity Cache.
However, the fully enabled Navi 31 halo product is probably coming at $2500 or more.
I believe the +50% performance claim is for the same price range. The next $675 GPU will be 50% faster than a RX6800XT, which is probably Navi 32 (same as Navi 31 but with only one WGP chiplet). Then as performance rises above high-end we see an exponential increase in price, as the Titan range got us used to.

Exactly 50% is bullshit, thing will be alteast 100% faster.
